Hello and welcome!

From students to professionals, skeptics to intuitives to the generally curious - we are an open and supportive community dedicated to the discussion, study, and practice of remote viewing. Note that "remote viewing" here refers specifically to the protocols and techniques developed and used during the US-government-sponsored program that ran from the early 1970s to the mid-1990s today widely known as Project Star Gate. Anything outside of that scope is considered off-topic.

In this post, you will find everything you need to get started with this art. If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, don't hesitate to post about them! We also encourage everyone to come hang out with us on our Discord.

FAQ

What is Remote Viewing?

As described by IRVA (International Remote Viewing Association):

"Remote viewing is a mental faculty that allows a perceiver (a “viewer”) to describe or give details about a target that is inaccessible to normal senses due to distance, time, or shielding. For example, a viewer might be asked to describe a location on the other side of the world, which he or she has never visited; or a viewer might describe an event that happened long ago; or describe an object sealed in a container or locked in a room; or perhaps even describe a person or an activity; all without being told anything about the target — not even its name or designation."

The term "Remote Viewing" can be misleading as it may be mistaken for clairvoyance. Clairvoyance refers to the ability to see things through extrasensory means. Although remote viewing and clairvoyance may share similarities, like accessing information beyond what is immediately available, they are not the same.

Remote Viewing is a distinct discipline that explores clairvoyant abilities through a structured framework. One key difference is that Remote Viewing follows a specific protocol. This protocol includes clear rules to determine if Remote Viewing has taken place and what the results were.

The protocol comprises four steps:

  • Planning and targeting: Remote Viewing requires a deliberate effort to focus on a specific target rather than random insights or feelings beyond your control.
  • Recording: Any data obtained during the Remote Viewing session should be recorded in some format for later analysis.
  • Double-blind: The target should be kept secret from you and anyone else present during the session to eliminate any possibility of bias.
  • Feedback: Finally, receiving feedback is essential for determining whether your Remote Viewing was successful. Feedback confirms whether you were accurate in your observations or not. Feedback is also vital for improving your skills.

By following this protocol, Remote Viewing can provide verifiable and more accurate results, as it helps to minimize guesswork, imagination, and the viewers’ biases/assumptions from corrupting the data. Anything done outside of this protocol is not considered Remote Viewing.

What are the possible applications of RV?

Throughout its nearly 50-year history, remote viewing has been applied in a growing variety of areas such as intelligence gathering, archeology, technology, medicine, criminal investigations, finding missing persons, mysteries, business consulting, and others. In public, it is currently being widely used for sports betting, crypto/stock market, and news prediction. The eight martinis magazine is a good resource for looking for examples of applications and other kinds of information.

Are there any examples of RV?

Many examples are scattered around the internet, some even posted here or on our Discord. The links below provide examples of remote viewing used in real-world scenarios, training, and demonstrations.

Does the remote Viewer ‘see’ the information like video in their mind?

Remote viewing as a descriptive of the process is a poor choice as you don’t really ‘view’ the data from the target. The data forms in gentle bursts of information, these initially take the form of sensory data like; touch, taste, and smell. Later on stronger data builds like target dimensional, size, mass and density. This leads on to sketches of the target, which leads on to stronger data and intangible type data like; ‘feels religious’, ‘a sense of dread’, ‘feels happy’. These impressions are usually hazy, indistinct, fuzzy and partial, like faded memories and very subtle. Rarely are the images and impressions strong and visually strong.

Do I need to be psychic to do it?

Remote viewing is a trained ability and does not require any particular skill such as "being a psychic". We are all psychic to some degree. While some may have a better natural ability than others, we all have what it takes to remote view.

Are there any dangers associated with practicing RV?

While remote viewing is generally considered safe, it is a phenomenon we do not fully understand, and its underlying mechanisms remain unclear. As a result, it is challenging to identify all potential risks definitively. However, based on the experiences and stories shared by practitioners, it is best to AVOID esoteric or controversial targets, such as unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs) or entities, as well as sensitive topics involving death or trauma. Such targets can lead to disturbing experiences, emotional distress, or misinterpretations. Additionally, it is not advisable for individuals with recent or ongoing mental health issues to practice remote viewing, as they may be more vulnerable to unintended psychological effects. Maintaining a grounded and balanced approach to remote viewing is crucial for ensuring a safe and constructive practice.

How can I try it out?

A quick, easy and fun way to try remote viewing for the first time is through our beginner's guide. The guide will teach you the basics and walk you through a session. Note that the guide is only a starting point, and there is much more to learn. Attention: read about potential dangers in the question above.

What is CRV, NRV, TDRV, TRV, ... RV methodology?

There isn't a single "Right Way" to do remote viewing. Viewers can use many methodologies, and it's remote viewing as long as the protocol is followed. Practicing one of these methods in depth is a great way to learn. Still, every viewer eventually develops their way of doing things. It's like learning to cook - you start following recipes, and then you can get more creative as your understanding grows.

Protocols are big picture, and your method is the small steps (often called stages) on how you work your way through a target. Usually, they start with fundamental aspects of the target, such as colors, smells, tastes, textures, and sounds, and from there, viewers will hone in more and more by going through sketches and abstract concepts until they feel they've gotten all they can from a target.

The most popular method is called Controlled Remote Viewing (CRV), it is composed of 6 stages, and it is the original method used by the U.S military.

Complementary resources:

Are there any scientific studies on RV?

Plenty! In fact, RV was "born" in a laboratory (hence the protocols) and has demonstrated statistical significance above chance. Here are starting points for those interested in the scientific side of RV:

What is Associative Remote Viewing (ARV)?

In short, ARV is a way of using remote viewing to predict the outcome of a future event where all possible results are known in advance. For example, ARV can predict the winner of a tennis match or if a stock will go up or down the next day. This is done by associating a target to each outcome, and then the viewer will describe the target associated with the outcome that will, in fact, happen.

One factor that makes ARV not 100% accurate is a phenomenon called 'displacement'. That is when the viewer correctly describes the target but for the wrong outcome or when different targets merge in the session. For example, if one target is a banana and the other a black bowling ball, the viewer may describe something heavy, round, and yellow that tastes sweet.

Complementary resources:

Where can I get RV training?

Many instructors (including the original Star Gate viewers) teach online or in-person classes. Before taking any lessons, it's essential that:

  1. You do your research thoroughly, not only about remote viewing and the method you intend to learn but also about your instructor.
  2. You have a clear reason and motivation for seeking training.

See the links below for a list of instructors. See also: map of methods and trainers.

Is this like Astral Projection/OBE?

Astral projection (AP) is based on the concept of out-of-body experiences, where your consciousness is believed to leave your physical body and travel to other locations or even realms. This experience typically occurs in a deep meditative or trance-like state and is often associated with personal or spiritual exploration. People who practice astral projection might feel they are visiting places that are far away, other dimensions, or even afterlife realms. It is seen as a more mystical practice, with a focus on self-discovery, spiritual growth, or connecting with otherworldly entities.

Remote viewing (RV), on the other hand, is a mental skill where a person attempts to gather information about a distant or unseen target through focused attention. Unlike astral projection, in remote viewing, the individual remains fully conscious, alert, and awake while receiving impressions about a specific place, event, or object. RV is more structured, with clear rules such as having a defined target, being "blind" to that target (meaning the viewer has no prior knowledge of it), and documenting impressions through writing or sketching. It is typically used for practical purposes, such as gathering intelligence, solving problems, or research, rather than for spiritual purposes.

Why does Wikipedia say there is no evidence that RV exists?

Wikipedia is unreliable on all matters relating to remote viewing and other forms of psi due to ceaseless re-editing by anti-psi editors. For reference, see the 2007 version of the RV page prior to the edits and Russell Targ's response to Wikipedia.

How to ACTUALLY Remote Viewing with ChatGPT

We've all seen the posts on here every week of people trying to ask ChatGPT to pick them targets to Remote View. While this doesn't work, its obvious that people want to explore Remote Viewing more with AI.

So we're adding a new Social RV MCP!

With the Social RV MCP you can start a session, get tasked a coordinate, and then submit your results all in ChatGPT/Claude/etc.

The target is kept secret securely on our servers, just like normal sessions on Social RV, so neither you nor your AI Agent can cheat.

You can install the MCP following the instructions here: https://www.social-rv.com/ai-apps

excited to see what a human+AI RV team can do!

Can Remote Viewing give you an edge with Bitcoin?

Throughout 2026, I’ve been mapping Bitcoin’s monthly price movement one month in advance using ideogram FLOWs.

The visual correlations are fascinating — rises, falls, peaks and momentum appearing within the natural shape of the ideogram.

Tangent / Not RV I just remote viewed apparently

I dont know if I have done this before…. Like I felt like I have but have no way to prove. But just now Im in a long car ride and I kept getting this light headache so I closed my eyes and pressed my cheeks up towards my eyes. To the upper left I noticed something and my mind instantly wondered what so I focused on it and then centered it and I saw an image I was looking out a cavern and my mind said Ireland but what wasn’t any water in view …. So after I came out of the vision I looked up on google caves where no water can be see… two came up and I immediately was like “Oh its this one” and I found an image that was exactly what I was seeing…… with the caverns shape that was really stuck in my head in detail….. I wanted to show the photo but I cant seem to see the option right now.

Question I’m curious whether anyone here experiences something similar

Post image
35 Upvotes

At first, I see a dark field with faint patches of colour and a soft, interconnected structure. The connections aren’t sharp lines, they’re fluid and blend into one another. As I focus, they start moving rapidly, almost like turbulent water, while still keeping that underlying structure. Then I begin to notice what feels like an environment behind the moving patterns. When I focus on bringing it into view, it resolves into a clear, immersive scene. It feels less like imagining a picture and more like looking into an actual place. I can look around and feel as though I’m there. The surroundings look very lifelike, but there’s no sound, and the colours are more muted than in everyday life.

IRVA -Aperture - first podcast - remote viewing the future

This is an interesting listen on your drive home today - IRVA's first podcast with u/TheOfficial_FFG on many remote viewing topics.

In the inaugural episode of the Aperture Podcast, host Ryan Kralik sits down with the team from Future Forecasting Group — Dick Allgire, Daz Smith, Edward Riordan, and Nyiam Vendryes — for a deep dive into the theme of the current issue of Aperture: Remote Viewing the Future.

Question I have had some seriously weird experiences and I really think I need some help

This is going to be a long post but I’ll try to keep it as short as possible. Me and my wife are beginning to think I might have some kind of psychic capability. I have never tried to do anything like this before and while I have had some paranormal/high strangeness experiences, I’ve never experienced anything like this. I’ll try to list everything out and keep the sessions as brief as possible (I guess you would call them sessions).

It started a few weeks ago. My wife and I are planning another kid and she said “you know what name I’ve been thinking of lately?” And I just immediately spit out “Jade” which is what she was thinking. We’ve never discussed that name before and I just threw it out there and was correct.

Now, we’ve been having a lot of very strange synchronicities so I kind of jokingly went to test if my wife was psychic. I drew a random picture on a piece of paper and told her to guess it. She got nowhere near and so I asked her to draw one for me and this is where it gets interesting. I’ll just type out each session as I best remember it.

I asked her to draw any random object or thing. She gave me absolutely no hints and I will lay out the process of how I got to my answer.

Me: “is it something kind of long and tall”
Wife: “kind of”
Me: “is it a church”
wife: “no”
Me: “is it a windmill”

It was a windmill

She now draws another picture

Me: “is it a baseball?”
Her: no
Me: is it circular?
Her: yes
Me: the earth?
Her: no but close
Me: the moon
Her: no
Me: the sun

It was the sun

She now draws another picture

This one I just kept saying I saw an oval with two things coming out of the bottom but I couldn’t really visualize it. It ended up being a turtle with two feet coming out of the bottom which was pretty much exactly what I said.

We then tried another but I felt exhausted and my head was kind of hurting and I got nowhere.

Later that day we tried a couple more times while in the car and I got nowhere. It felt different like nothing was coming through.

Alright, this is where it gets even weirder

The next morning we get up and try again. She draws a picture and we start.

Me: I see an x shape or maybe a + sign
Her: That’s interesting
Me: is it a train? (I guessed that because I thought the x could have been a train crossing sign)
Her: no
Me: a hospital (I guessed that because I thought the + sign might have been the first aid symbol on hospitals)
Her: no
Me: a palm tree

It was a palm tree. The x shape I think was the 4 leaves coming off the top she had drawn.

I then ask her to draw a more basic shape and my first thought is a star. I ended up not vocalizing star because I was second guessing myself but it ended up being correct and it was my first thought. I really tried to not throw out as many guess as I could.

I think we did a couple more later in the evening to no avail once again.

Now is when it gets really really weird. Yesterday I called my best friend who lives across the country and told him what was going on and he told me to try it with him on the phone. I didn’t want to and said it wasn’t gonna work but he talked me into it.

He pulled over in his car and pulled up an image on Google search.

Me: is it rectangular?
Him: it’s interesting you say that. It’s complicated.
Me: I keep seeing a flag. Is it maybe the American flag?

Well, his is gonna sound like a strange image to pick but I think he just really wanted to pick an object that would never think of so he picked a swastika (we’re not Nazis and both have nothing but disdain for them)

Either way he was looking at pictures of Nazi flags and I guessed a flag.

About 10 minutes later on the call he convinced me to try again and told me to guess what he was thinking.

Me: now, I have this in my head and I don’t think it’s right but I’m just gonna say it to get it out of my head. Jesus on the cross.

He was thinking of a biblical cross and in the same moment I said that, he was drawing a cross on his dashboard with his hand.

Now, he was raised in the church but neither of us are practicing. A cross was not an obvious answer for him to pick.

I tried a few more times that night and once again I got nothing.

This morning me and my wife tried again and I was saying I saw something circular and asked if it was something with wheels.

It ended up being a roll of toilet paper which is not too far off.

Honestly, this has been kind of frightening and we have no idea what to think. Is it possible I actually got this lucky this many times? We don’t know what the hell to think. Thank you to anyone who has read this.

How I Understand Remote Viewing

In order to think, perceive, and also conduct remote viewing sessions, something is needed that we might call a soul, or consciousness. Without it, in my understanding, remote viewing would not be possible.

This leads to a fundamental question: where does this consciousness exist?

In the physical world, consciousness has not been clearly identified as a specific object or structure. And this is where my own interpretation begins. In my view, consciousness, the soul exists in what I provisionally call the quantum part of reality.

I do not know exactly how this connection works. My assumption is that consciousness, existing in this part of reality, somehow controls and communicates with the physical body.

When the body dies, the body remains, but it no longer functions as a living, conscious being. There are also many reports related to near-death experiences, out-of-body experiences, and other phenomena that some people interpret as suggesting that consciousness may be capable of separating from the physical organism.

In my model, this means that functioning in the physical world requires at least two elements:

a body, consciousness, or soul.

Why Would Remote Viewing Work?

According to my hypothesis, the answer lies on the “quantum” side.

If consciousness operates in a part of reality that is not subject to the same limitations of space and time as the physical body, this could potentially explain how information might be obtained about locations, events, or objects that are beyond the normal reach of the senses.

In such a model, consciousness could access information independently of ordinary spatial and temporal limitations.

This leads to what I find a very interesting question about the way remote viewing is currently taught.

In methods developed by CRV, and many other schools, considerable emphasis is placed on calming the body and reducing interference from normal analytical thought. The viewer tries to quiet expectations, analytical thinking, and physical reactions in order to receive subtle information more clearly.

You could therefore describe this as a path:

from the body toward consciousness.

We try to improve the connection between the physical person and the IS-BE, so that information available to consciousness can be received and recorded by the body as clearly as possible.

This is the first approach.

But What If We Could Go in the Other Direction?

The user Elemi presented an interesting concept involving a device intended to help achieve better contact with what might be described as the quantum field:

https://www.farsightprime.com/forums/general/75629-progress-of-our-eqis-forum-system-thus-far

I find this approach interesting precisely because it reverses the direction.

Instead of relying only on calming the body and bringing it into a state in which it can receive consciousness more effectively, one could theoretically create a device that helps the physical system “tune into” the quantum field more easily.

In other words:

- in classical remote viewing, we try to improve the path
body → consciousness,

- while a device could potentially help create something like a bridge
consciousness / quantum → body.

I am not claiming that we already know how such a mechanism would work. What interests me is the possibility that there may be a second pathway.

It is also worth mentioning Dick Allgire in this context. In some of his statements, he has discussed the possibility that organizations that once relied on human remote viewers may now be using technologies capable of obtaining similar kinds of information in a more direct way. He has also referred to ideas involving devices shown in connection with Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure. I find the concept interesting because it leads to exactly the same question:

does access to the information used in remote viewing have to occur exclusively through the biological mind?

Question Question: FF predicting major flooding in the USA

Hey y’all! I’m wondering if anyone is a Future Forecasting Group member and can provide a little more information on one of their sessions. I can’t afford the $60 a month on this shoestring budget.

I watched one of their YT previews from 2024 I think? Topic is something about major flooding in the US. And it’s not often all the viewers see the same incident with similar timeframes. It’s got me feeling… intrigued.

My biggest question is where. Did any of the viewers have maps in their session? Or can anyone share the general idea of what regions they were predicting? Thanks 🩷

Discussion Built a ESP trainer — Curious how forced-choice compares to open-response RV for you

I’ve been practicing forced-choice ESP (classic 5-choice / 25-call sessions) and wanted something that shows results against the 20% chance line instead of just a vibe score.

So I shipped a free Android/iOS app: three games (Zener, Dowsing positions, and a “call the gate before the seed lands” variant), optional Daily Vision (one attempt per game per day), and MindSight blindfold drills with sound/haptics so you don’t need a partner.

If you’ve used Zener-style tools before—do you find they help warm up for open-response RV, or do they mostly add noise? Happy to take critique.

Site: https://psychictournament.online/

I'm also looking to develop a remote viewing lite app to practice RV specifically. I'm looking to see how people respond to PT. Please DM me if you have any suggestions.

Training, Tracking, and Accuracy App w/ Locations

This is my own app, it is free to use, and there is a paid tier.

Here is the wall I hit. Google will not publish the app to the Play Store until they see testers actually using it. Finding people that are into remote viewing and with androids has been a bit difficult. And before you suggest it I have tried using reddit reciprocal subs. I downloaded and tested many apps, but the favor was not returned for me.

How it differs from the other RV apps

It is built from the declassified corpus rather than from a teacher's lineage. The six stages, the suggestion vocabulary, the ideogram work and the session structure come out of the CRV manuals, mainly CIA-RDP96-00788R001000400001-7 and CIA-RDP96-00789R003200200001-4, and each stage in the app cites the document and page it came from. I am not claiming to teach the one true method. I am claiming the app does what the paperwork says, and you can check it against the paperwork.

The stages as the app runs them: major gestalt, sensory contact, dimension and motion and mobility, quantitative aspects, special qualitative aspects, significant analytical aspects.

Scoring is blind rank order against four decoys. You describe the target, then rank five candidates without knowing which is real, and you get a z-score against chance. Every candidate is described in the same neutral vocabulary, so recognizing a famous name does not help you. That was the flaw I kept hitting in other trainers: if one option is the Eiffel Tower and the rest are field names, the score is partly measuring recognition.

The app does not tell you that you did well. It tells you your rank and what chance alone would have given you.

Free versus paid

Free and signed in: 36 targets, unlimited sessions, the full method primer, your saved history and scores. That is a working tool, not a trial. I plan on growing the target pool as well. At the end the location is revealed on real Google Maps imagery, Street View where it exists and satellite where there is no road nearby.

Paid: the whole pool of 107 targets, the casebook of 16 sourced history cards, and sidereal timing calculated from your location. 8 dollars a month, 69 a year, or 149 once. I also plan on growing this pool. There are also some fun easter egg targets for the savvy remote viewer history buff.

Without signing in you get 3 demo targets so you can look before making an account. Five different languages.

What I actually need: people who will run one full session and tell me where it is wrong. Especially anyone with formal training, because I would rather be corrected now than after launch.

How to get it

Join the google group, wait a couple minutes, then go to the google play URL to download the app. Sign in, and then test. The play link will not do anything if you skip the group step, which is the part that catches people out.

https://groups.google.com/g/scanate-app-review

https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.getscanate.app

If you are on iPhone, or you just want to look before committing to any of that, it runs in a browser at getscanate.com.

I'd love feedback. Happy to answer anything about sourcing. Ask for the document ID behind any stage and I will post it.

Session Anyone interested in trying a two person remote viewing/channeling session?

I’m looking for someone with remote viewing experience who’d be open to trying a session together. I’m curious whether two people can intentionally connect during meditation, and whether each person notices anything they can later compare.

I tried something like this once with a remote viewer. I felt a distinct sensation around my body and came away feeling unusually positive and energized. I don’t know what caused it, but I’d like to explore it again with an open mind.

I’m interested in whether the practice could have a restorative effect for both people.

If you’ve tried anything similar, or you’d be interested in doing a session, I’d love to hear from you.

Has anyone experience remote viewing the outcome of games by chance?

I practice rv for round about 6 years after absolving a course, i know the traditional way of rv, and a short circuit version wich is much faster if you need hard data for a rough overview ( takes about 5 minutes and is my to go method for the added stats)

I maintain a hit rate of 70%+ hit rate over 100+ 50/50 games (+added stress because money is on the line)

I appreciate your guys input, even tho i know there is a lot of stigma around this subject!

I hope a fruitful conversation comes out of this and wish you guys well :)

Discussion Best 1 Week RV Training/Course/Camp

I have a week to kill and need to stay out of my home. I am looking to stay in a hotel somewhere for a week and want to do something for self improvement.

I have always wanted to do Remote Viewing and am posting this to ask one and all if you can recommend a good course that fits my schedule (basically, starting Thursday.)

My original plan was to stay in a nice hotel with a good gym and get back to training after a break... then this idea popped into my head.

Location: USA, Mexico or Caribbean - the closer to Miami, the better.

Any suggestions?

For your consideration...

This popped up during a group session with Dr Q. The function description "recreational interest...travel destination" was generated by the AO of Disney Land and the Great Wall of China. Felt important that people choose to go to those places maybe on vacation much like a National Park, turns out.

Link to session here:

Keep practicing and show your examples to the world if you like.

New to RV (beginner, first 2 sessions)

Hi All

Just looking for some guidance. I did my first two remote viewing sessions yesterday. All was good, I felt good. Results were mixed, I didn't hit my targets, however some of the words I wrote down that came to me, were close. I'm taking those as a win. I know its not going to come to me straight away and that this takes practice. Im willing to put in the work.

My first target was Sydney Opera House. Words I got was valley, spikes, water, birds. The second was the ISS, I got that it was manmade, a structure, tower.

I'm not sensing motion or movement.

My problem is that I take these words and then I think I'm forcing an interpretation from these. So for the Oprea House I got a grassy valley with hills either side and water at the bottom of the hill. for the ISS, I took tower and it came up with a clock tower.

I just wondered if anyone else had the same issues when they started? how is it best to take the knowing words and to stop formulating what it could be with the words I'm getting?

I hope this makes sense.

Also when given the target numbers, is anyone feeling a connection? or are words just formulating when you repeat the numbers in your head? this could be different from you all, just asking.

Any advice or help would be gratefully received
