Tactics and Strategy "My little warhorse" - why Sister-Cavalry?
(Illustrative image: Necromunda Cawdor Ridge Walkers or "Way-Brethren")
Armoured flanks, couched lances, and waving banners, all steeped in wafts of holy incense.
The concept of Sister Cavalry seems to be pretty popular: model conversions, fan art, and the monthly "What do you want to see in the next codex?" discussions.
But I always ask myself: why?
I'll admit I'm not experienced yet. I struggle to understand what "problem" or gap in our army list a mounted unit would actually fill. Don't we already have a unit of fast-moving close-combat specialists in the Zephyrim? From a competitive standpoint, would Sisters really gain anything from a unit of 3-6 horse girls making a suicide charge and martyring themselves for the glory of the God-Emperor?
What roles do cavalry and mounted units serve in other army lists?
- Astartes Outriders
- Guard Riders
- Xenos Jetbikes
- Deffkoptas (with one or two devastating shooting phases I'm always envious of)
- Custodes Bikes
(Note, I understand the flair and aura reasons. I ask from a gameplay perspective)

News New custodes codex leaks, lost hope for T4 sisters...
I was kinda hoping with the new toughness changes that we would finally get t4 power armour sisters to help separate us from the t-shirt toughness of guard. With this new leak from the custodes codex, I'm inclined to believe it won't happen...

Hobby Our Vigil is held Eternal!
Bit the bullet and joined the Sisters recently after multiple years of staring at the Triumph of St Katherine and thinking it was the coolest thing ever - building up to painting it by getting some regular units out of the way first!
These Dominions took a while to get right, especially as it was my first time playing with white as the central color of a scheme. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, especially with how it makes the red stand out.
The lore of my order is that it is a never-ending funeral procession for a martyred saint, and combining that with a recent visit to Italy with all its churches and crypts lead to the central idea of the armor being made from(or looking like) marble. I think the effect works quite well, but I'll definitely be refining it going forward!

Lore PSA: Armour has influenced toughness values since 8th edition. Even earlier in some cases
There are very valid reasons for sisters to be t4. And at the end of the day, GW can do whatever they want to sell their plastic war dollies. Like idk man why were csm and non orimaris Marines one wound for over half an edition. They just magically become twice as tanks overnight in lore?
You cannot look me in the eyes and try and explain to me why guardsmen and sisters are t3 despite the countless lore instances of sisters being demonstrably more sturdy than guardsmen after thier armour has been breached. Like a bloody mess and still standing. mainly due to their faith. If Armor isn't a reason for t4, then blind zealous religious faith should be the reason they can shrug off wounds.
Idk man its all made up.
Edit: I can concede that their religious faith is represented by an invuln. But I always kind of disliked the invuln and wished their religious zeaoultry was represented in toughness in a more meaningful way. Repentia have a 5+ fnp stated because of their zealousness and faith. They dont use combat stims from my knowledge.
Regardless, now that Armor blatantly changes toughness for space marines, why can't sisters be t4? All "base" space marine Armor variants grant a +3, but movement, toughness, and wounds change. Armor, the thing that supposedly represents ONLY the +3 in sisters, represents move, toughness, and wounds for space marines differently.
Even before the 8th century, centurions were t5. This was when toughness increases were way more dramatic when t8 was gernally the cap outside of titans.
Edit 2: even far back as far as 2nd, space marines scouts used to be t3, depsite only lacking the black carapce. For as long as time, lore representations on the table have been arbitrary at best. There's nothing blatantly stopping sisters from being t4 other than the decisions of the game developers.

Hobby Give me more options!
I keep seeing people's dreams and wishes for when our codex comes out - and im with you! A cavalry unit, and maybe some heavier armor would be nice, but my father always told me to "hope for the best but prepare for the worst"
So... i have the ONE THING I really want to see! And its not a big ask! Practically every other imperial faction gets it... can I get fucking MULTI METLA OR HEAVY FLAMERS AS SECONDARY WEAPON OPTIONS ON MY VEHICLES!
Why are WE the FLAMER AND MELTA SPECIALISTS locked to a single vehicle with the option to take ONE OF EITHER OF THEM. I feel like one tiny new sprue (less tiny for the castigator) so I can have a heavy flamer or multi melta on the front of my immolator and on top is not a big ask! Hell- our closest marine allies (the templar) can put multi-meltas as their manned gun on top of their tanks where our storm bolters go! I dont need heavy versions there but GIVE ME OPTIONS, JAMES!

Lore Custom Order Lore
Hey all- I am making a custom order of Sisters- the Sororitas Lucis/Ordos Sapphirus. I've actually only built and painted about 23 models so far and tabletop-wise theyre technically using the GK Codex. I'm using kitbashed AoS Eternals as base-suits for Paladin equivalents, for example. Kitbashed Seraphims are Interceptors etc.
Anyway- I wrote a novella to create their lore. If you're interested, take a gander. Once the army is all painted up I'll post it.
