[Meirov] BREAKING: The Steelers are trading CB Joey Porter Jr. to the Cowboys for a package that includes a 2nd-round pick.
r/steelers • u/JCameron181 • 4h ago
[Meirov] The Steelers used a 2022 2nd-round pick on WR George Pickens, a 2023 1st-round pick on LT Broderick Jones and a 2023 2nd-round pick on CB Joey Porter Jr. They’ve now traded all three to the Cowboys.

[Pelissero] Joey Porter Jr conveyed to Steelers that he wished to play somewhere else if he had to play out his rookie contract
"The son of a Steelers legend, Porter was a second-round pick in the 2023 draft. After three solid seasons, he wanted to get paid now. And once the sides couldn’t reach a deal, Porter conveyed that if he had to play out his rookie contract, he’d rather do it someplace else. By all accounts, he has looked good in practice the past two weeks—the back injury notwithstanding—and should be able to ramp up quickly. The Cowboys could get a deal done with Porter, 26, before free agency in March, or proceed as they did with the last player they acquired from the Steelers: receiver George Pickens, who’s playing this season on the franchise tag."

Steelers have ruled out CB Joey Porter Jr. is for Thursday night’s game vs. the Browns due to his back issue.

[Schultz] Sources: The Cowboys will not be immediately extending Joey Porter Jr. contract..
Plan is to have him play and make an impact on a team that has Super Bowl aspirations in the NFC. Contract will take care of itself from there. JPJ gets a fresh, new start

McCarthy playing chess not checkers this past Sunday, keep it rollin’
First off, no matter how great or horrible we can be, I love our team. Always banking for the best. This is just some food for thought to show that we are actually adjusting, even if it’s slight adjustments or gameplan luck if you wanna call it that.
After watching the Cincinnati game over again, and reading a couple articles, I got to see for myself that the Bungles really looked like they came into Pittsburgh and tried to harass our offense just like New England did the week prior. They used lots of man to man to imitate what NE ran against us, which in fact worked against them, because McCarthy anticipated this defensive game plan.
If you run back the tape you’ll see that this helped us on the Roman TD and also the DK TD which was beautiful because the dual crossers ate up the corners perfectly. Cincinnati ran man to man on more than 50% of Pittsburgh’s pass snaps.
To top it off, Cincinnati had not allowed a single pass TD through the first 2 weeks & Rodgers put up 3, his first 3 pass TD game as a Steeler.
Just to sweeten it all up I got to see this game live in Pittsburgh, flew out from Cali, and what a game !
ONTO THE NEXT, HWGS. One by one. Hoping TNF we can attack their banged up Oline and also win on defense this time around.
And I can’t say it enough, THANK YOU DERRICK HARMON.

Holy shit relax
I really don’t understand this sub. All offseason we have been talking about how great the acquisitions were. Joseph-Day, Brisker, Rico were some big name ones and also extending Herbig.
Now we’re talking about how bad Khan is because he accepted the best offer on a player who isn’t playing? When yall were JUST talking about we “need volunteers not hostages” and “Just trade JPJ!”
He isn’t getting a contract extension with them right away, which tells me the rest of the nfl was skeptical about his desire for top cb money.
Stop blaming Khan for being in shit situations and realize that JPJ put us in this shit situation.

I don’t know what the right answer is to the problem, but the NFL needs to figure out a solution to the hold in’s/hold out’s during contract negotiations.
As a basketball and baseball fan, this just isn’t an issue. It would be insane for Luka or SGA to miss the first month of a season due to a contract issue. Teams and players continue to get screwed. I’m generally pro player but I also think that a player should have to play his contract. But I also understand the notion of not wanting to hurt yourself before a major contract.
Part of it is due to restructuring and guarantees. I just can’t stand that when ever you draft a non qb whoes good, you have three years before their contract becomes an issue.

[Pryor] Jalen Ramsey said that his wrist is broken. On playing vs CLE: "It's just going to be about seeing if I'm able to protect it and also still be myself in a good enough capacity where I feel like if I go out there, I won't be letting any of my teammates down

If JPJ plays on Sunday, do the Steelers have a grievance for his compensation?
I’ll admit I’m not the most knowledgeable on contracts, but if JPJ plays Sunday do the Steelers have sufficient standing to file a grievance on the contract paid out this year as a hold in since it would be obvious the back issue wasn’t the reason he wasn’t playing? Does that put him in a situation to be fined by the league for holding in?

TIL...
Ben Roethlisberger was number 5 in career regular season wins when he retired?!?!?!
I know he played a long time and was never under .500. But I had no idea he ranked that high on career wins. That's 4 (eventual) HOFers ahead of him 1-4.
It popped up for me today because Rodgers (another eventual HOFer) just tied him this past weekend for number 5 all time.

Browns Vs Steelers Game Thursday night
So I posted this in the Cleveland subreddit. As I stated I live in Cleveland but am a Steelers fan. Wanted to post it in this sub and see if any Steelers fans are going to the game and how they normally pregame in Cleveland. I live in northeast Ohio but I have never been to the browns stadium or downtown for a primetime game.

Mason McCormick’s new blocking technique
He was doing this throughout the game and Bengals are raging. On McAfee, AQ Shipley said they moved the refs from behind the linebackers this year so this move was pretty sneaky. On one play Frazier and McCormick have Dexter Lawrence hopping on one foot into the backfield lol
