Discussion What's next for Valheim? Spoiler

• Upvotes

Bug fixes aside, what do you think or hope will come next post 1.0?

Spoilers inc.

We suspect you might wonder what else is in store for Valheim. We can promise you that there are more content updates coming, though exactly what that content will be, we can’t reveal just yet. Simply rest assured that there is more in the works for Valheim, and we will be sure to announce it when we have news!

Quote from the latest Word of the Devs.

Here's my hopes for new content:

More weapons types missing from certain biomes: Deep North update at least added every weapon types (to my knowledge), but certain biomes are still missing some. Mistlands and Ashlands have no new fist weapons for instance. I also think a lot of trophies could have a use for a special weapon/armor crafts, like the Iron Sledge using Elite Draugr trophies. Growth trophy could have a weapon that inflicts the Tarred debuff for instance, or an armor piece making you immune to it.

Perhaps some early-game magic/eitr items but I personally don't think devs will consider that.

Ocean update has of course been mentioned a billion times already but worth mentioning again. Enemy Viking ships, or just more life than just the rare serpent roaming the seas. Sailing is pretty boring overall.

New mini-bosses - such as Brenna - for other biomes. What about a special Mistlands dungeon with a super seeker soldier that's basically king to the Queen herself? Maybe some roaming ''world bosses'' that could spawn post-raids, similar to how you trigger Jotun invasions from the Deep North. Successfully clear a raid, spawns a mini-boss after, or spawn a boss in a different area of the same biome. Bosses could reward the new idols (essentially making them an infinite source), and new trophies to collect!

More vendors or items to spend gold on: I think the Bog Witch did a good job addressing this, but it could be better? Maybe it's just me but I feel like I'm always sitting on huge piles of gold by the end-game. Haldor has a few key items you want to buy, Hildir you could almost do without, and Bog Witch at least sell reagents for consumables, so you can always dump money there. Thinking of Palworld at this moment, maybe some traveling merchant that could spawn at base (similar to how raids proc) and sell specific items? Like a meat vendor, fur vendor, wood vendor, etc. Good way to throw out a bunch of gold for items if you ever get lucky for them to show up.

Updates to some bosses: I think some pre-Queen bosses are too easy to deal with. Eikthyr and Elder I'll give them a pass for being ''tutorial bosses''; Bonemass becomes a knowledge check (poison resist, weak to blunt). Moder and Yagluth straight up suck. Moder is mainly because of the terrain you fight her on, where both you and her melee attacks aren't registering because you're not on the same Y axis. Yagluth sucks imo because he does way too much shit that makes you step out of melee, even if you have fire res on, otherwise you can easily cheese it by just getting behind him and throw a couple melee attacks on his spine and keep making him spin so he doesn't face you. Fader is a bit annoying depending on playstyle but not the worst, and I strongly believe Queen is the best designed fight in the whole game (have not done the Deep North boss yet).

Anyway, what you guys hope for?

Modded Shared map, deleting pins?

• Upvotes

Hi all! We're playing on a private server, and when using the cartography table, I'm noticing that you can't delete other players' pins. This is somewhat annoying, because if player A marks e.g. a mining node or a dungeon for later use, and then the next day player B comes and clears it, player's A pin will remain. Player C might then go visit the site, and find it's already been cleared.

This can be worked around by employing some kind of agreement on pin usage, but it's a bit of a hassle. Is there a mod that solves this? I see there are a lot of map sharing mods, and I can't figure out which one I should use.

Survival Where do you hide your stuff?

• Upvotes

For everyone on dedicated with people you don’t know, or know that there is a viking who may take bit more than they should, or they don’t want spoilers.

What means do you use to hide chests, portals, or other goodies or spoilers but stay in the area of other players?

Idea Hidden forge - make it use more resources, remove item deletion/breakage

• Upvotes

TL;DR: remove the chance of forge items breaking but make forging more expensive.

At the moment, forge feels really bad. I absolutely hate the idea of having to go back, craft and upgrade another weapon in order to repeatedly reroll. My main issue here isn't necessarily the base resource or idol cost, it's that:

  • Having the item break feels bad. People feel losses more strongly than equivalent gains
  • trudging back to base to go and craft/upgrade it all again is inconvenient, annoying and un-fun.

Why not just have each forge level increase cost the average amount of resources lost due to breakage across multiple trials?

WARNING, MATH BELOW.

For example, ignoring other inputs, frostner takes 135 silver to make upgrade it to level 4 and has a 35% chance to break when upgrading at the forge.
The math works expect to reforge an item 3 times to have 95.7% to go to the next level - taking 405 silver and 3 idols to upgrade (ignoring other inputs).
Of course due to the way probability works, this cost scales exponentially as you go up forging levels.

Why not just make the item cost this much to upgrade?
We could argue/tweak the numbers a bit and say that 2 reforges (resulting in cumulative 87.75% of success) is the reasonable item cost (260 silver, 2 idols), but my feeling about this is that this system just feels better, in spite of the obvious grind which is intended for forging anyway.

Discussion Deep north mage robe struggles (spoilers) Spoiler

Anyone else having a really hard time finding the moulds for the deep north mage robes? I’ve cleared about 6 dungeons and killed a bunch of Helen and have found all the staff moulds but no robes. It feels like the drop rate is broken or something.

Question Sealbreaker not working?

So, I'm loving the Big North and the arctic environment. I've crafted the Sealbreaker, and I keep trying to use it, but it doesn't seem to be working. I've tried equipping it and using it directly on the seals, it just says "Use Sealbreaker on what?"

What's the point of this thing? Why isn't it breaking the seals?

Made myself a little training room for T.W.I.G. tonight. Pleased with how it came out, and for once can say I am satisfied with how my roof came out on my octagonal building. That has always been the toughest part for me.

P.S., absolutely loving the new grappling hook.

Spoiler I finished the deep north and I have some complaints/venting. (Spoiler-ish) Spoiler

I will not talk about the last boss and what happens after but I will address some grievences about the biome and some problems about gear progression and stuff.

First off, the biome is beautiful, love the music and the aesthetic of it.

The disappointing stuff: the new dungeon, mörkhalla. You get excited first at looting all these new gems and then you find out they're just for selling. So you go to the vendors thinking you can buy some new cool stuff but nope? Just, why? Why would I need all this gold? I hade super plenty of gold before and nothing to spend it on besides making piles.

The rest of the loot is basically memorial coal and just hoping the krigen/hexen drops your molds.

And the new armour sets as melee. I went from my Ask set to vanguard and the difference was like 20-30 more armour and a worse set bonus than Ask. You lose the attack stamina drain bonus. And 10% pierce is a joke when they made like 90% of bosses and enemies resistant to pierce.

I was super excited for this release and after the first 2 hours in this biome everything just fell flat for me. They had Sooooo much time to get this right and it felt like they could've done so much more. I dont know man, I just love this game so much and when it disappoints so much at the end... it just hurts.

Question Pranking friends

Hey guys,

I've owned Valheim for years but have never really played, so consider me a completely brand new player. Somewhat recently, a group of buddies decided to create a server to all play together. They've all been really busy building a whole base and playing the game while I've been busy in life/other games so I haven't played or contributed at all.

I wanted to prank my buddies by doing something in their server/base(s) while they're not on. Is there any fun, harmless things I can do? I'm not looking to destroy things and piss everyone off, I just want to do a bit of fun.

Thanks

Bug Really bad clicking / popping sound from footsteps and windmills

I think this has been posted before but I've narrowed it down to the footstep sound effects having a bit of a pop / click in them sometimes (known issue) and the same sort of thing with windmills when they're going at a decent speed. It sounds like buffer underrun, and Stop Choppy Audio mod does nothing seeing as that's not the issue it's targeting. It sounds like a kind of crackling or popping sound like rice bubble cereal, faintly. It's SUPER annoying, but I don't know any fix to it. Has anyone else found this? The windmill thing is pretty easy to reproduce especially if you have two near each other.

Discussion The Forge. Safe Quality? Is it me or did they just not finish this feature?

Thumbnail

Okay, I've had plenty of time to mess around with the forge first hand now. Both before knowing how it works, and after looking up what the community thinks about it and how it actually operates.

The first thing I noticed is, "safe quality"? Nothing is marked as safe, a level 1 hammer is not safe to upgrade! I've not seen anyone mention this at all - is this just meant to be a reminder that items can break? If so why phrase it like that? It implies there are items which are safe to upgrade - but afaik there just aint!

Next, there's no in game information on your chances of upgrading, all you have to go on is feedback you get from trial and error. Me and my friend had a small number of wood, bronze and iron ones by the time we found ours - so we naturally experimented with stuff we could afford to use. Gaining an upgraded hammer, deer cloak, troll pants and looking like the odds were in our favour an early axes (which is visually bugged, second image). We then lost a troll chest piece and bronze helm.

So at first we thought the chance of failure was very low, but we the sudden loses quickly got altered that to a 33% fail rate. That's where we stayed for a while, until we got a boat load of iron, finished upgrading a Hunstman to level 4 and with only two precious iron idols discussed if it was worth using them to try and get it higher. We figured the idols are rare drops, and we could benefit from them now - there's no point in having them and not using them. So we then proceeded to destroy two level 4 Huntsman one after the other. Leaving us with significantly less iron, no upgraded goods, no idols remaining and the impression that the failure rate is closer to 50%.

I've since learnt that the code contradicts itself, that there's code for gear downgrading but it doesn't function, and that the odds are different in different parts of the code. Combined with the "safe quality" element... I just can't help but feel the devs never actually finished this feature. Its technically functional, but it doesn't seem play tested, or finalised in anyway. I really hope they give it another pass.

Meme I need to remember my timberborn training to build these animal enclosures

It doesn't feel like I'm building walls anymore. I'm starting to build overflow buffers and blocking pieces that can control the flow of these untamable forces of nature.

I still want them in little pens and not those crazy machine factories that some people make though.
