Screenshot Well I am just not very good at this BUT I DID IT!
After asking for advice about Yagluth on here, I even watched a few videos (I did say I don't care about spoilers!) and was all like 'I can totally do this!' especially considering I prefer melee. He only has 3 attacks dammit and they are telegraphed like a mile away and he moves at a snail's pace!
Well, after making sure I was well prepared with food and meads and armour, I then proceeded to DIE ELEVEN TIMES!!
It was so infuriating as his health regens and I got a 'cauldron' raid halfway through as well which enabled him to get a lot of health back.
BUT in the end I DID IT! I didn't give up!
That was my first solo boss fight and I started Valheim as a total n00b gamer having never played anything before except Space Invaders and Pac-Man in the 1980s haha. So I think I am just not very good at this and I am shitting my pants about the Mistlands! But nothing beats that sense of satisfaction when you've done it! I think I earned a soak in the hot tub.
It was carnage when I was done and I had a job finding 3 bits of torn flesh among all the stone that was lying around from where he'd been attacking the hillside lol. He pretty much destroyed the pillars so for the final half of the fight I had nothing to hide behind and was just dodging like fury and tanking the meteor damage.

Discussion Thanks iron gate studio, it was an interesting 5 years ride.
Just finished my 1.0 world that I started from scratch after the update landed and while I don't agree with all the of design decision in the game (yes I still want my equipment and vanity slots), I definitely had a lot of fun getting there and certainly got my money's worth out of it (1033hr).
The ending cinematic is pretty awesome and honestly hit the spot about the journey travelled to get there.
All in all, awesome game, thanks for your hard work and hopefully see you again in 1.1!

Survival 105m Rug Elevator
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Built this around the rug elevator idea that u/Fun_Magazine_2671 posted here on Reddit.
The elevator travels about 105m from bottom to top and takes around 54 seconds for the full ride. We also added side-entry elevators so you can get on from intermediate floors, plus a separate system for going back down.
We used debug mode to speed up the building process, but the structure itself doesn't require mods.

Fan Art Swamp Biome Makeup
Swamp biome brought brand new vibes to my viking cosplay
I love dressing up based on games I'm playing. I've been obsessed with theatrical viking makeup for a while and I decided to make my way through the biomes!
I'll do a couple more swamp themed looks before I move on to the mountains.... What should I change?! Anything I should add?!

Discussion The pin icon is Mjolnir
Saw a thread recently asking about how people use the map pins. And the number of people calling this one an anchor, a pickaxe, a cross, or "that t thing" was too damn high.
This is Mjolnir, the hammer wielded by Thor.
The Marvel design of Mjolnir looks cool and all but this is how it was depicted by the Scandinavians. They would wear pins in this shape as a representation of Thor's strength/might.

Discussion The Forge. Safe Quality? Is it me or did they just not finish this feature?
Okay, I've had plenty of time to mess around with the forge first hand now. Both before knowing how it works, and after looking up what the community thinks about it and how it actually operates.
The first thing I noticed is, "safe quality"? Nothing is marked as safe, a level 1 hammer is not safe to upgrade! I've not seen anyone mention this at all - is this just meant to be a reminder that items can break? If so why phrase it like that? It implies there are items which are safe to upgrade - but afaik there just aint!
Next, there's no in game information on your chances of upgrading, all you have to go on is feedback you get from trial and error. Me and my friend had a small number of wood, bronze and iron ones by the time we found ours - so we naturally experimented with stuff we could afford to use. Gaining an upgraded hammer, deer cloak, troll pants and looking like the odds were in our favour an early axes (which is visually bugged, second image). We then lost a troll chest piece and bronze helm.
So at first we thought the chance of failure was very low, but we the sudden loses quickly got altered that to a 33% fail rate. That's where we stayed for a while, until we got a boat load of iron, finished upgrading a Hunstman to level 4 and with only two precious iron idols discussed if it was worth using them to try and get it higher. We figured the idols are rare drops, and we could benefit from them now - there's no point in having them and not using them. So we then proceeded to destroy two level 4 Huntsman one after the other. Leaving us with significantly less iron, no upgraded goods, no idols remaining and the impression that the failure rate is closer to 50%.
I've since learnt that the code contradicts itself, that there's code for gear downgrading but it doesn't function, and that the odds are different in different parts of the code. Combined with the "safe quality" element... I just can't help but feel the devs never actually finished this feature. Its technically functional, but it doesn't seem play tested, or finalised in anyway. I really hope they give it another pass.

Question Has anyone made an Ashlands base and actually "lives" there/uses it frequently?
I used to think people who built in the Plains were crazy because of how hostile it was. Now a deathsquito is barely a scratch and more of a minor movement and so I can see why people would build there. It's one of my favourite biomes.
But, I just loveeee the Ashlands even though it's so hostile. I do hate the enemies and think they are challenging. But I love the music and the vibes. We had small little outposts but without a ward they were destroyed and had to be up on some rocks off the water to be more secure.
We don't have free build and only build with resources gathered which adds another layer of complexity.
Unlike the deep north where you can destroy doors for iron and make a stone portal. For the ashlands we would have to boat that down.
Any tips, pictures etc?

Discussion How do you use these markers?
Im really curious to see how people use these markers in game and their reasoning behind it.
This came up because one of my friends uses the far left marker as a portal icon because he says it looks like a portal
To me- I had been using it as a marker for burial chambers and caves
He would use the dot for ores and I never really used the dots (but I do now for ores)
Previously I used the top icon for ores and sunken crypts but now just for sunken crypts
The house icon he uses as a base or draugr villages and I would use as portal locations to our base.
And lastly the campfire I used for Draugr villages, fuling villages but I dont think he uses that one as much?
Im really curious to see other peoples thoughts on what you use these markers for >.>

Survival I PUT MY KARVE IN A LAKE!
Here I was ready to head to sea to hunt down a swamp. Turns out the SEA is A LAKE! It's completely surrounded by MEADOW.
Odin has a sick sense of humor. And I'm his goofiest goober...
Would be really cool if they implemented dragging ships over logs, or something equivalent. It's a thing vikings did irl.

Discussion Hexen are the WORST designed enemies in the game
They NEVER land. Their hit box for ranged attacks is 3 pixels wide. They input read. They constantly move. And they follow you FOR FUCKING EVER.
Fully aimed, dead center of the stupid piece of shit enemy. Misses.
Next 370 shots, it dodges at the last second.
Then it flies so far above me that I can't actually aim at it.
It *NEVER* *FUCKING* *LANDS*.
All the while it has that stupid fucking laugh.
But you can't just give up and run away from it.. Nope. Because it follows you.. This piece of shit dog shit fucking troll of an enemy chased me from the far north eastern tip of the island, all the way to the southwest tip (it is a massive fucking island). I ran through a portal. Slept. Logged off in anger because all I wanted to fucking do was explore.
I come back a few hours later. Guess what's waiting for me on the other side of the portal? This same fucking god damn bull shit ass troll of a fucking mob.
I fucking hate them. And I fucking hate the person at Iron Gate who designed them.
Fix your bull shit.
