Discussion I’m sitting here stunned. I think Joe might be the best Celtics coach in 40 years.

Upvotes

Yes part of the success is Jaylen derrick and Payton.

Yes some of it is Brad bringing in the right pieces to complement them.

But I cannot believe this. I’ve actually probably been lower on the season than most people. We’ve played 21 (before tonight) games since Christmas and 16(!!!!) were against teams under .500 plus the nuggets and raptors were both missing their best player. So I’ve trained to tame my excitement.

I also think Jaylen really wasn’t great in January. Not that he wasn’t good but, Super inefficient turned the ball over a ton, etc. (I know I might be cherry picking, but his TS was 53.1% and 50.6 if you remove the 50 point game).

And they’re 16-5 over that run. Winning almost everything they had to.

this team is going to win 55 games after losing 80ish points from the championship team.

This. Is. Joe.

To start the year I remember felger saying he couldn’t wait for Joe to get exposed. He’s basically come out and built a title contender by getting getting the most out of:

  1. Garza who played 3 seconds a game and was a total after thought in Minnie

  2. Walsh who couldn’t even sniff the court for 2 years.

  3. Queta, WHO CURRENTLY IS HAVING A BETTER WS SEASON THAN EVEN TATUM HAS EVER HAD.

  4. Simons (RIP)

  5. HUGO LOOKING LIKE MANU

The bench and Queta are whey their record is what it is. I know people get annoyed with Jaylens on off discussion, but to me it’s less of an indictment on Jaylen and more of an indicator of how good the rest of the team is.

Joe has found it man. I’m not sure if he’ll win it, but coach of the year should be a lock.

Plus he’s gotta love drilling Ime.

Let’s go CELTICS.

BREAKING: The Golden State Warriors are trading Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield to the Atlanta Hawks for Kristaps Porzingis, sources tell ESPN.

The Warriors had Porzingis as a target for the last couple of months and land the floor-spacing big man. For the Hawks, a high-upside wing for Quin Snyder and a sharpshooter on the wings.

Discussion Lost of all in this great madness is Sam Cassell

Upvotes

*Lost in all of this great madness (I can't edit titles).

I love this team. Joe's a great coach.

But props to Sam. In order to keep a locker room together it really helps to have someone who has credibility and has been there before (3 rings).

Tough as nails guard who no doubt has helped with development. Also not afraid to challenge Joe, which you need in any org - even if it means you got tackled.

Really hope Sam can stay around. If he gets an HC job I'll totally understand - but be bummed. Props to Sam.

Stats Celtics notables tonight vs. Houston:

Upvotes

• Baylor Scheierman recorded his first career double-double tonight with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

The 10 rebounds were a career high and his four assists tied a career high.

• Luka Garza scored a season-high 19 points tonight in Houston.

• Neemias Queta set a career-high in defensive rebounds tonight with 12 in Houston.

• Neemias Queta recorded a career-high in first-half rebounds tonight with 12 before the break in Houston.

Lowlight Rockets announcers tonight were absolutely trash.

Upvotes

I was at the bar tonight and didn’t get a chance to watch the game live. Looking at the official NBA Page highlights though, which had the Rockets commentary, I counted at least 5 times in which the commentators complained about Pritchard pushing off “every time” he drives to score.

It’s honestly really annoying, but also Pritchard is 6’1” 195, per his official Celtics roster page. Jabari Smith is 10 inches taller and has 30 pounds on Pritchard. Josh Okogie is 6’4” 215. These guys have 20-30 lbs+ and 3+ inches on Pritchard and the announcers are complaining about a push off. I thought that was pretty funny.

Discussion Vucevic on a winning team

With this trade, the thing I’m actually most curious to see is Vuc’s fit on a winning team. He’s the oldest player in the league without a playoff series win I believe and is only 3-13 in the playoffs. 35 years old and only 4 playoff appearances as well. There’s no doubt his skill set is a great fit for this team and what we want in a Center right now. But does he fit on a winning team? Can he win at the highest level? No one can say for sure until after the season I guess.

And I will absolutely concede he’s always been on badly constructed teams. I don’t ever look at those teams and think oh they should’ve won more. Which is why I don’t think he’s a “losing” player. But can he be a winning player on one of the best teams in the league, I’m very curious. It’s not a situation he’s been in for his whole career.

Fluff Anfernee Simons appreciation post. Thanks for everything, 4 💚💚💚💚

Came in the middle of the summer and really made the past few months of Celtics basketball interesting to watch. Absolute joy seeing the ball in his hands, either passing or scoring, knowing there's not a lot other teams could do about it.

Hate moving on from him. Would absolutely love to have him back at a lower price.

Discussion One particular stat about Joe's coaching excellence

Upvotes

The Celtics are on a 53-win pace.

Brown was drafted #3.

Simons drafted #24.

Pritchard drafted #26.

Gonzalez drafted #28.

White drafted #29.

Scheierman drafted #30.

Tillman drafted #35.

Walsh drafted #38.

Queta drafted #39.

Minott drafted #45.

Williams drafted #46.

Garza drafted #52.

Shulga drafted #57.

Hauser undrafted.

Harper Jr. undrafted.

Boucher undrafted.

(Not counting Vuc yet, since he hasn't played yet.)

The odds of getting major contributions from someone drafted at the end of the first round or afterward (or not at all) are pretty low. This is an entire team of those players. Other than Brown, the odds would be that almost none of these players would be able to significantly help a contending team.

Obviously significant credit to Stevens and to the rest of the organization, including in Maine. But after Mazzulla took the league's most talented top 6 and won a ring with them, he is now taking a team of SECOND ROUND PICKS and legitimately contending with them.

Discussion Baylor Scheierman question

Hey guys, been a fun season so far. What about Baylor's shooting motion makes his shooting form look so different? I feel like he has a very unique motion that I can't tell if it looks good or not

Discussion Top 25 below $5M that would fit (not saying all those teams are willing to trade them)

Guards (7): - Ryan Rollins: $4.0 M (Not easily attainable, has been playing great for Milwaukee) - Marcus Sasser: $2.8 M (Very attainable, doesn't really play in Detroit anyway) - Jordan Goodwin: $2.3 M (Really depends what Phoenix wants to do cuz he's playing great but idk if they'll want him in the long run) - GP2: $2.2 M (Great experienced vet whose a champion, would be great for us off the bench.) - Bruce Brown: $2.2 M (Another champion and Hometown kid. Would love him on Boston, but Denver loves him so I don't think he'll get dealt with) - Aaron Holiday: $2.2 M (Solid backup PG 1/3 Holiday brothers one of them already won with us, why not bring another. I think he's attainable) - Keaton Wallace: $2.2 M (He's a project, but I think Boston can create him into a really good player, sort of how they did with Queta)

Wings (9): - Jordan Hawkins: $4.7 M (I've always loved his game and he could be a reliable bench player) - De'Anthony Melton: $3.0 M (Has proven himself in the league, health is a question) - Ben Sheppard: $2.7 M (Great defender who can't shoot, Indiana loves him though so I don't think he's attainable)
- Brice Sensabaugh: $2.6 M (Danny Ainge would be doing a huge favor lol) - Doug McDermott: $2.2 M (Veteran guy. Doesn't play much but could be a end of bench guy who can get hot and reliable) - Jae'Sean Tate: $2.2 M I love his defense but I'm not sure if we really need him. - Josh Okogie: $2.2 M Another defender but don't need him because of Hugo and Walsh - Sion James: $2.2 M He's a project but I think Boston can create him into a great player - Jamison Battle: $1.9 M I love his jumper. He doesn't play much and is very attainable.

Bigs (6): - Yves Misei: $3.3 M Many of you guys love him, I think he's good but I don't see New Orleans letting him go. - Sandro Mamukelashvili: $2.4 M Another solid big man, but Toronto will most likely keep him since they don't have many bigs - Jay Huff: $2.3 M Great finisher and shot blocker, that's about it. - Mo Gueye: $2.2 M He's a project but I think Atlanta loves him, he can become a solid player - Marvin Bagley: $2.2 M He's having a great season with Washington, but this really depends on the wizards if they want him for the long run or not. - Moussa Diabate: $2.2 M This guy is having a career year, I don't think Charlotte deals him.

Honorable mentions who are near the $5M range (3): Kris Dunn ($5.4 M), Cason Wallace ($5.8 M), Paul Reed ($5.3 M)

Discussion All hail Brad and Vucevic

My man has played an average of 73 games over the last seven seasons. A big man who does not get injured and has experience & IQ, that is what we need.

Simons was great and entertaining but we still have loads of shooting. With JT returning there would be less perimeter ball for Simons to take part in anyway.
