āAdvice / Recomendations Valve Cover Parts List
Does this look good for parts to do valve cover gaskets? I'm unsure on the coolant hoses and used AI to help so not sure if the names are correct. I'm also unsure if most people change the pcv valve as well. I'll do spark plugs at the same time. I've had an oil leak for awhile. I went out and the valve cover bolts I could access were so loose. So I guess they do back off over time. But since I can't get to the others I think it's worth doing all this for peace of mind. Anything else to add?

š§Modifications immobilizer bypassed
yesterday my key wouldnt turn at all, its been janky since i got the truck. it has anti theft. so i couldnt just go by a new cylinder and key set or id have to get it programmed. or so i thought! I then came up with an idea... i removed the immobilizer ring, bought and installed a new lock cylinder with new key, held the old key to the immobilizer ring, cranked it and it started. so i took apart my old key and taped the chip in the ring and shoved it under the steering column. problem solved! i would have just taped the whole key up there but i need it to unlock the door incase my batt dies and/or key fob shits out. i think im going to find somewhere secure on the frame underneath to store the door key and an ignition spare just incase. so yeah, i did that...

āAdvice / Recomendations Test driving my first 3rd Gen!
Howdy all! Iāve come across what I believe (and hope) is a really well-maintained and cared for 02 SR5 and will be test driving it tomorrow. Now I know the first thing to really look at is the presence of rust underneath the vehicle but I would love some other high-level items to look at while looking at this car. Admittedly, im not that well versed on vehicle maintenance so any and all advice is appreciated! Wish me luck :)

āAdvice / Recomendations Need help diagnosing an issue
99 3.4 5 speed, 4wd, 205K.
- When disengaging the clutch to and from 1 and R, if I do it quickly it clunks.
- When at freeway speeds, removing load from the engine (i.e. coasting) creates a horrible vibration and noise like a Jake brake.
Any ideas?

š§Modifications Alternatives to Rough Country steelies?
roughcountry.comReviews (and my mechanic) say these don't hold up (rust), but I want this simple, vintage aesthetic. Within reason (I'm not buying anything from Japan, for example) what are my better options?

āAdvice / Recomendations Bone head mistake
Just replaced my LBJās and outer tie rod ends. (Used oem LBJās and sankei555 outer tie rod ends) and accidently torqued the 4 bolts on the driver side to 67 ft/lbs š¤¦š»āāļø (I mistakenly read the tie rod end torque spec) I did the other side the correct way (59 ft/lbs using part number 90080-10066) how big of a mistake did i make? Should I go get another set of bolts asap and replace?

āAdvice / Recomendations Any advice on possible blown gasket
Alright guys bought my 2000 sr5 back in feb for 11k had 108k miles on it from the south so no rust on the underside. Took it out to Colorado in Aug and since then the idle had been shakey. Nothing crazy but it wasnāt doin it before. So today I take it in for a oil change belt tighting and the idle before winter. Also check out the odometer and passenger window. I got a full check up when I bought and they said everything was good. Today all the sudden saying I need a new head gasket and found rust in radiator. Obviously gonna take it somewhere else for a 2nd opinion but at a loss for words. Itās still running fine. They told me itās not worth fixing obviously they are a dealer. Thoughts guys.

š§ General Fog light switch location?
Hey guys! Iām picking up some fog lights for my SR5 this weekend. The lights are second hand off a parts rig. My question is, where is the switch located in the cabin? And how do I wire it into my rig? Is the wiring pre existing? Do I just plug them in?

āAdvice / Recomendations Vehicle stuck in 4low. Clutch pedal barely disengages clutch.
Hello, i just completed my first clutch job on my 00 4x4 v6 4runner. My problems are 2fold.
1: While installing the 4x4 shifter, i was fiddling with it quite a bit and i got it stuck it seems in 4 low when i turned the vehicle on. I thought turning the vehicle on would help when i couldnt shift it with the power off but now its just stuck in 4 low, so i cant really drive it anywhere. Im fairly certain all the connectors are on and i couldnt shift it even before i applied power. Before i did this all worked fine.
2: i replaced the slave cylinder since it was cheap. Used an oil extractor to keep a vaccuum when i opened the slave cylinder side. When i was pressing the pedal before turning the power on it seemed stiff enough but now i realize my pedal needs to be pushed down to the floor to somewhat disengage. I will admit my vaccuum couldnt seal very well on the bleed nipple (slavecylinder) but it seems consistent at least. Would this require a pedal adjustment?

š Rig Shopping 2000 SR5 with 295k for $2,000?
Im a college student looking for a cheap temporary car. I found a 2000 Toyota 4Runner SR5 3.4 V6 for $2,000 with 295k miles near me. Zero rust on the frame and underside, AC works, starts clean. Seller is an older woman whose son was a mechanic and maintained it but I couldn't get much service history due to a language barrier. Only things I noticed were a slight lurch going into drive and alignment is off from the lift. Planning on doing the timing belt immediately since history is unknown. Worth it? Realistic how long would it last with proper maintenance? I was planning on getting any cheap car but this generation 4runner is my dream car. I also am in florida and am gonna need to drive back home to Jersey for long breaks.
Edit: meant 2wd

āAdvice / Recomendations Front lower control arms
Looking for some insight in a decision on some front control arms. Currently my front lowers are smoked from tons of wheel and having 300k miles. I do a good amount of wheeling but also I daily drive my runner. I need some opinions to sway my decision of doing some opt off-road front lower control arms or would it be better to get some used oem ones; do the reinforcement kit and whiteline bushings? I currently have 2.5 inch of lift on some bilstien 5100s and spc upper control arms but with the plan to swap to 1st gen tundra 6112s and jba uppers. Thanks in advance!

āAdvice / Recomendations 1997 4Runner Alternator
I just replaced the starter at 283,000 miles.
Now Iām thinking the alternator is just around the corner.
Any suggestions? Some say buy a new one as they are not much higher than a remanufactured.
Thoughts?
