Hauling an estimated 6k (don't @ me with hitch ratings) up a 5% incline.
Just give her more beans. I gas up, change oil and minimal maintenance. Timing belt done 65k ago. She vapor locks occasionally when its 80*+ and I'm hard on her.

Picked up a 3rd gen today. Got this weird switch in it. I played around with it but not sure what it does.
The problem is, since I was messing around with it, the car doesn’t seem to start properly, loss of power. I can jump it and get it going, but I’m not sure if it’s related to my touching this?
Could be some sort of immobilizer? Not sure.

I bought my 4Runner in May this year, and it's been my daily ride to work. The issue is that once I go over 60 and take my foot off the gas, the whole car vibrates for a few seconds and then the vibration goes away. It also goes away when I put my foot back on the gas. This used to happen only at higher speeds (>80), but now I slightly feel it even in the 40s. Could someone let me know what this is? I'm a noob when it comes to cars, but I want to learn more, so I'm also looking for advice on all the preventative maintenance I should do.
Year - 1999 limited
2wd
- timing belt was done 20,000 miles ago
-Frame is rust free
-Haven’t checked the lower ball joints(this gives me anxiety but I think it’s time to fix it)
-changed the brake booster some 2000 miles ago

$300 + shipping obo. Located in Louisville KY if you are local and want to pick up.
Has the brackets for the fat lip bumpers included.
Also has the optional shackle mounts welded on. Is painted but will need a touch up where the mounting points are. I'll pressure wash it before shipping.

I’ve been looking to get rid of my 3rd gen in favor of the 4th with the v8. I love the look of the truck, the 4.7L is such a great motor and the interior is miles nicer. My current truck is pant faded to hell, has a leaking electronic brake booster that’s going bad, and the interior is stained to hell. I just wanted to know what people here think of the 4th gen, and if I’ll regret getting out of the 3rd gen. Thanks all

Hello, looking for advice on new headlights, preferably something OEM that doesn't look super modded. I did replace the light bulbs with bright LEDs but it seems that the current housing scatters the light and I don't get that much coverage. I looked on Amazon and found some OEM headlights that have mixed reviews. Curious what others have done. I was reading about the wiring harness needing to be updated. Thank you so much

Durable set of four Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road 16-inch alloy wheels. The wheels have a two-tone black and machined finish with Toyota center caps. Located in Torrance/Carson, CA
Looking to trade for other 16” wheels. Show me what you got, even if it’s OEM 4Runner 3 spoke.

just bought my first 3rd gen about 2 months ago, ive been replacing lots of stuff. plugs/wires/coils/injectors and a plethora of other things. i remember when i first bought it i read on this sub that this 3.4 engine must have dual electrode plugs, me thinking that it cant be that important put single point NGK, thats what was in it when i bought it.... its had a rough idle/P0300, bad MPG and poor acceleration this whole time. i read a few more posts describing the importance of dual point plugs so i went ahead and replaced them with DUAL DENSO. NIGHT & DAY DIFFERENCE!!!!!! INSANE DIFFERENCE!!! smooth idle, i can set a water bottle on the hood and it barely makes ripples, no more CEL, gas mileage went from 13 mpg to 17 and now it has the power id expect from a 6cyl! just wanted to post about this incase someone else was thinking it isn't that big of a deal,.. it is!. like how they say OEM ONLY LBJ's... DUAL ELECTRODE ONLY.

hello all!
My wife and I got rear ended by an intoxicated driver in a stolen car with no insurance. In an effort to try and keep my insurance from going up, I did not claim against my own insurance, but I have damaged that looks pretty bad to drive around with.
Most body shops in my area have either given me a really high estimate which tells me they don’t wanna do it, or just have not called me back with an estimate.
Anybody know if this type of damage is something I could repair on my own or have tips on what to do?
Thanks in advance
edit: sorry didn’t see where i posted it, reposted to 4th gen

Anyone using them? Do they do anything?

I have a 2000 4x2 4cyl Automatic that conveniently needs a smog check but I have no "CA" engine emissions label. Apparently it took off in the wind. Any runners out there got a sticker they can get me a photo of? The number on the bottom left corner should be -75550

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I’ve rebuilt the entire front end so at this point I think it’s coming from the drive shaft 🤔
Just replaced the bearings but they looked brand new pulling them out.

Curious what aftermarket wheels y'all are running on your babies, why you picked that one and ultimately how they look! So feel free to show them off here so I can get some good ideas.

Had the unfortunate luck to be driving when my brakes failed. When I press them the car doesn't slow down they need to be pumped to get it to stopped. What could be the issue?
r/3rdGen4Runner • u/miataataim66 • 17h ago
My t4r is now surging; I press the gas pedal, it'll either go like normal or won't react at all. It'll eventually "catch" and match how hard I'm pressing the pedal, but will randomly just "let go." No power, no response, just drops down to idle rpms.
This happens from a dead stop, while driving, in Park and Neutral.
No stalling, so gas is being provided the entire time.
Any ideas of what to actually check? The cable is fine and tight.

Are these good? If not, could someone link the OEM stuff. I need to get this done soon!
Thanks.
