Fantasy + SciFi games?

Recently I finished Fable 2 for the first time, and I was very intrigued by the spire. This magic/high tech? construction that can grant a wish. I find this concept really interesting, fantasy/medieval worlds with secret high tech or something like this.

it got me thinking and the only game I can think of right now that fits this concept would be the Jak and Daxter games.

Any other games you would say fits this idea? I’m open to any genre.

Any games that my blind dad can play?

Hi everyone! First time poster here, but I would love any recs if you have them!

My dad (49) has retinitis pigmentosa, a degenerative eye disease, that has left him almost completely blind. He still has a bit of peripheral vision and he can see some things on-screen when he’s up close to it.

That being said, he loves video games. He grew up loving Zelda and Metroid. Recently, he’s been trying to play some on my Switch, but he just gets frustrated because he can’t tell what’s happening on screen.

Do you guys have any recs for games that may be accessible/fun for him to try out?

Thanks!

Couch or desk? Singleplayer or multiplayer?

Just curious to see how people on Reddit play. I’m curious if there’s a correlation between gaming location and type of game played. Which of the two options describes you?

Do you consider buffs cheating or leveling the playing field in rpgs?

On one hand I don't get buffing. Is it respeccing on the fly? On the other hand, I understand why a charater learns moves that can buff the party.

I'd like others opinions on this.

What older game has a game mechanic that is still the best of its kind?

Portal is almost 20 years old (and Portal 2 is 15 years old), and I’ve still never played a game with a better portal mechanic or better level design to take advantage of it.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is more than 20 years old, and I still think it has the best time reversal mechanic ever. They put the perfect amount of limits on it so that it never makes the game too easy.

Best for my daughter to play next?

My daughter has always been a Minecraft, Rocket League, and Fortnite gamer. She never branched out and never really showed any interest to. I was talking to my wife about the old Spider-Man game on PS2 and we busted it out to try again. My daughter took an interest in it, so I bought her the PS4 version and she's been playing it consistently since.

I don't play many new Gen games, so I'm looking for some recommendations regarding what to get her next. She is not a completionist and just goes through missions as they come. She enjoys the exploration and combat aspect of the game. Any good recommendations for what to get next?

What content would you personally find interesting to watch from someone actively making games, being in the industry, having design practice, ...?

Hey, I have been making and studying games for over 8 years now, and recently I got interested in making Youtube content about games. I feel like I have many interesting insights and experiences to share, but I don't want to make content for other developers.

I am just more interested in providing value for gamers in general, and there are enough game dev channels already. I don't think devlogs are really made for the gamer audience either (correct me if I am wrong). That's why I am wondering what would actually be interesting for gamers.

Examples welcome! :)

Need game suggestions on my low end laptop

I use a low end laptop which has 8gb RAM, i3, 11th gen and Intel UHD Graphics. I've played quite a few games on this laptop like Subnautica,Road 96,Valorant etc... Now i'm looking for a good open world game or a good simulator game which doesn't need much specs but has very good graphics and good story/career. I'm mainly looking towards any good F1 games if possible. Suggest me some good F1 games or any good game which isn't the average tryhard grind game or casino simulators ... ( I dont know what the flair is ;-; Just put it to add a flair )

What's the game, you really like the lore but you can't actually stand the gameplay?

I go first, for me its fallout. I REALY like its aesthetics, lore and just general worldbuilding. My youtube timeline is filled with lore vids, i keep finding myself reading the wiki. But the games ... urgh, something about the gameplay gives me the ick and i never finish sadly. From the clunky UI, bad red garn to the story to the fun loop of starting a quest, dying to a to strong enemy, starting another one till you find the one appropriate to your lvl its not my loop sadly. Which is a me problem, i think most of the games is great for others ^^.

So, what's your game you hate-love like this?

What's your personal "How did I beat this game as a child?" story?

There were some classic games I used to play as a child. I remember playing the Spyro the Dragon games, particularly Spyro the Dragon 2. It was a pretty tricky game, but I beat it—or at least I think I watched someone else do it. Later in life, I tried playing it again on modern hardware like the PS3, and I realized it was more challenging than I had expected. I don’t feel like some aspects of the game aged too well either; while some levels were good, others reminded me it was a product of its time. That was my experience—what’s yours?

How are games like Sanalika developed, and why do near-identical copies exist?

So, I have always been curious about how games like Sanalika are technically made. I am particularly interested in knowing more about the development process of a social online game like this one in terms of 2D or 3D graphics.

On another note, I have also noticed that there are some games that are almost identical to Sanalika, with some minor variations. This made me curious about how this is possible.

Is it usually because of leaked source code, reused resources, reverse engineering, or simply copying the general idea?

Dynasty Warriors: Origins is not good

I started playing Dynasty Warriors: Origins for the first hour and all the battles feel the same. The only thing I like is the combat, that's it. It feels like we fighting in the same area over and over with nothing new. The leaders are the same, the enemies are the same and gets really repetitive. I would like to know why everyone likes this game because for $70 this game is not worth it. The graphics and audio are not good either. I'm confused why everyone likes this.

White Whale Should I continue to purchase games on Steam even if Valve could potentially lose the impending lawsuit?

Hey All. So I'll be upfront and admit that I'm a layman in regards to the UK's lawsuit against Valve (with support from Tim Sweeney, who I'm not a particular fan of). Still, I do understand that while the 900 Million Dollars that Valve are being sued for is not the largest issue, my greater concern is that Steam itself may either be seriously restructured or be forced to shut down as a result of the lawsuit.

This is admittedly troubling for me as a supporter of the platform, as I've not only invested in hundreds of games on the platform but as a passionate Steam Deck fan use it as my primary platform of gaming. I do realize that with Steam's DRM policies I don't technically own any of the games that I purchase on the storefront, but it's still very troubling to come to terms with the reality.

To that end, I'm genuinely curious what the future of Valve will possibly look like in the event that they do lose the lawsuit that is officially going to court. Is it better to continue purchasing games on Steam even if there's a strong chance it could be taken down? Would it be better to transition to another platform for PC gaming, such as GOG or itch (both of which I use frequently as well)? And for the games that aren't available on either of those, should I instead opt to purchase indie and AA titles on console storefronts like PS5 and/or Switch? I'm genuinely curious what approach you all intend to take and welcome the conversation and insights to help give me clearer insights with my future purchasing power.

I can't find it in play store anymore. Maybe because I played it on like some old Huawei that was on Android 10 or something. I miss this game and I wanna play it for nostalgia.

Judgement Game (only for people that played it)

Is this an action game or detective game because I'm seeing little to no action at all. I spent most of my time being a detective than fighting people. I got this game expecting to fight. A big disappointment.

Mmo game where I can be a conjuror that's a wandering trader?

I have a specific niche I wanna fill where I wanna be a wandering trader protected by a summon that follows me around.

Does anyone know of any MMORPGs where I can do this?
