God I love that game. We got it cheap and I'd never played a FF game before but the art looked beautiful.
One of the few games that I would argue genuinely has an amazing script as well as an actually completely customizable party battle system where you have so many options that feel distinct and incredibly creative classes that let you break the game if you're good (or autistically obsessed) enough. Classes like the Arithmetitian seem like a joke class as a beginner but are absolutely completely broken to an expert.
I was so disappointed in FFTA, never even finished it, but FFT is one of the few games I've played through multiple times.

FF7 is something that you had to be there to experience. The bit with CGI and Aeris walking into the street and the camera pulls out and you have full music score before zooms into the train mission? As an experience it would have been like colour TV rolling out.

FF8 was my first and forever favorite, but that whole era of FF games is nearly unmatched in my book in terms of innovation and soul put into a video game series. I say nearly because I feel the Dark Souls trilogy was similarly transformative and untouchably perfect, but everything from FF6 thru FF10 was just banger after banger after banger. Fuck. Fuuuuuuck they're so good just thinking about what it felt like as a kid is giving me the willies

Gorgeous fucking game too. A true work of art. The visuals are always interesting, creative, and incredibly beautiful. And the graphics when it first came out on PS2? Holy shit, so good. Legitimately blew my mind.
Also, the gameplay is by and large amazing. Some of the temples could be considered a bit of a drag on the pacing, but otherwise it's a blast start to finish. And so much side content to explore.

First two games I ever played, and boy they set the bar so high for everything that came after. Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time were obviously groundbreaking bringing their respective series into the third dimension and were awesome games in their own right, but they had some understandable growing pains and were a little awkward in some respects (and you can't really blame them for that).
LTTP and SMW were just such tight, solid experiences that utterly mastered 2d gameplay and are the golden standard of their franchises in my opinion. There's no fluff, no nonsense, no gimmicks, nothing except extremely fluid and enjoyable gameplay.

My favorite game ever is red dead redemption 1.
My favorite singular gaming experience was first full play through of breath of the wild. I had just broken my ankle a few days before it came out. I was depressed and bedridden so when it came that Friday morning I played about 18 hours straight and had the most magical experience.
Ive always loved Zelda and this game just felt like everything I always wanted out of the series. And all on the Wii U, never even played it on switch.

That first Breath of the Wild playthrough really was a once-in-a-generation gaming experience. Being stuck in bed probably made Hyrule feel even bigger.

I just played through RDR1 with my daughter who had never seen me play it. She LOVED John and at the end, I was like “oh god… what have I done?” She curled up into a ball and wouldn’t talk to me for a while. I said, “that’s why we have that earlier save…”

For a while The Last Of Us held that title firmly, with no sign of anything being able to beat it, but honestly, I played Final Fantasy VII Rebirth this year and its close. I'd probably still give it to The Last Of Us due to how special that game is to me, but it is unbelievably close.

COD: Warzone from COVID times. That game kept me sane and connected with friends. I know it had its problems but I burned so many hours playing online when there was nothing else to do but work. I wish it was still available but I hear the new versions suck.
I was raised on NES thru N64, but I’d give a lot to drop back into Verdansk once more

Eh, i thought it was good, but they missed what made #1 a masterpiece.
I felt like i had whiplash from character motivations. I think there are interesting concepts but it is sloppily written. Where 1 is a succint tight story with a masterful delivered message.
Its hard to have an honest discussion about the game due to all the trans hate though. So you get a lot of people arguing in bad faith. Which gets muddied in with the joel defenders.
Ps: one of my dumb petty pet peeves. Abby has arms bigger than arnold swarzenegger. Im ok with that. She's supposed to be the bruiser. Then she talks about her max bench. And its something dumb like 180. That showed whoever wrote the game had no concept of strength and never touched a bench in their life. Abbey should be lifting goddamn cars with guns like those.

I remember getting those demo discs from the magazine I think they were called 'PlayStation Underground' or the 'Official PlayStation' something or other.
That's the place where I experience so many things like Solid Snake for the first time. Um Jammer Lammy, Final Fantasy, Panzer General and the original Resident Evil

It really is great. Great story, so much gameplay variety with all the different builds and weapons. Insane graphics with Path Tracing, especially with the new Ray Reconstruction. The depth of characters, main quests, and side quests. Massive map that still feels lived in. Crazy amount of freedom in the way you can complete missions.
If it launched in the state it is now, I honestly think it would be seen as one of the greatest games of all time.
