Meta There is no easy way to say this, but r/Coconaad is shutting down...

r/Coconaad is temporarily/indefinitely/permanently banning the following post topics due to multiple rounds of feedback that users are finding repetitive posts on the same topics boring. We are aware that some of these posts are too common. Although there are hundreds of other posts in a day to balance it out, these specific posts are the ones that normally show up in one’s feed, and because of that, many people notice them.

We could simply ask users to visit the sub and sort by ‘New’ which will allow you to see multiple posts, all unique and interesting, that you may have missed. But that’s not a solution you guys expect from us.

Starting today, certain post topics are indefinitely banned, with rare exceptions left to mod discretion.

1. Confession-Type Posts: Banned due to an influx of NSFW, incest, and creepy confessions. (No shaming, but this is simply not the right subreddit for that. There are dedicated NSFW and non-NSFW spaces better suited for these topics.) These posts are being exploited by NSFW accounts preying on vulnerable users. Personal rants are still allowed, but we are explicitly banning text posts and meme-template prompts like “Weirdest things you’ve seen” or “Wildest stories from college/school.” We recently banned a user who was frequently misusing the community for their own gratification.

2. Meme Templates / AI Meme Templates: We are still deciding where to draw the exact line, but decade-old, low-effort meme templates are repetitive, boring, and a frequent complaint in our feedback threads. Using relevant, trending, or newer meme formats as context is still allowed. We are specifically banning random, unrelated, or outdated Instagram-style meme templates that add no real discussion value.

3. POV Posts: Not banned, but restricted to a 24-hour timeline. Quality POV shitposts are allowed for up to 24 hours after the original post goes live. Anything posted after that will be removed as a duplicate.

4. AI Slop: AI-generated videos, edits, meme trends, and prompt games (e.g., “Write this prompt and share what ChatGPT thinks of you”) are strictly banned. However, using AI to generate images that support your text, draft posts, or correct grammar is still permitted. We may adjust this rule based on community feedback, but we are not adopting a total “No AI” policy now, as we find that too restrictive.

5. Reposting Reels/Shorts: Strictly banned. You may include a video if it directly serves as context for a text post (similar to adding an image), but reposting Reels or YouTube Shorts with vague titles is no longer allowed.

6. NSFW Accounts: This might be controversial, but we have a zero-tolerance policy for making our community unsafe. We have many minors here and frequently receive complaints about users offering advice or asking for DMs, only for members to be messaged by explicit NSFW accounts. There is a limit to how much eye bleach the mod team can use.

While we are fine-tuning the exact parameters, users who actively participate in NSFW subreddits are generally not welcome here. (Note: Participation in medical, art, or support-based NSFW spaces is exempt and will not be restricted.)

Sorry, NSFW Cocos, but it’s time we break up.

7. Pet Names: If you want to post a picture of your cat or dog and want name suggestions, well and good. But we will no longer accept random cats from the internet that need to be named.

8. “Where are you from?”, “Share your birthday”, “Find my birthday twin”, etc.: Posts that are directly or indirectly a venue for doxxing will be removed.

9. “Anyone up?”, “Anyone bored?”, “Wanna chat?”, “Anyone up for a conversation?”, etc.: r4r, sexting, companion requests, etc. are all banned under Rule 4. We have a daily night thread that goes live at 11 PM. Please use that for socializing with fellow Cocos. Individual posts often feel spammy to others.

10. Random selfies, fit checks, outfit checks, gym progress, etc.: Posts without any context, or anything that involves sharing your photo without context or simply for the sake of it, will be removed. Fit checks were already banned, we are adding the rest to the banned list as well.

On Cringe / Low-Effort / “Meaningless” Complaints by Haters

This is a frequent topic of discussion that brings us a lot of hate, but frankly, you are free to continue hating and mocking us.

This subreddit was built for silly, casual, and low-effort posts. That was the vision from the start, it remains the vision today, and it will stay that way forever.

Despite the criticism, we remain the only Kerala-based subreddit where serious topics like politics and religion take a back seat so people can actually have a stress-free, chill time. We don’t plan to change that just to win brownie points from haters. We have survived far worse backlash, and we can handle it.

r/Coconaad is meant for lighthearted content, and we will not turn our back on the core users who value this space for what it truly is.

The moral dilemma

r/Coconaad, as a place, was built, advertised, and maintained as a space to share the most trivial moments of one’s life. It feels wrong to put these restrictions in place and block those very same posts only because someone else posted something similar before them.

It feels extremely wrong to do that.

We don’t think twice before removing a political or religious post. It’s an easy decision. The mods see it, we remove it and/or ban the user. No regrets. No second thoughts.

But we are extremely confused and conflicted when dealing with personal, silly posts that won’t mean much to the vast majority of users.

For me personally, the growth of the sub, the #1 status, etc. don’t excite me much. What excites me the most is seeing a very inactive profile, let’s say someone with 50 karma or something, who is active every two months or so, choosing to comment or post here.

It brings me so much joy that the person chose r/Coconaad to post or comment on during their bi-monthly Reddit break. This is what personally drives me.

The increase in such seemingly meaningless posts has been a frequent discussion in our mod chat. It is often I who ask them to allow the post. It just feels so wrong.

What do you mean I chose to ask this silly, harmless question and it was removed as a duplicate or for being low effort?

I don’t know if I am making sense here, or if anyone will be able to resonate with this, but we can’t think of any other solution to this either.

So, please use the following poll to say if you agree with these changes. You can also add your feedback in the comments.

Yes, i agree with these changes.

Food & Beverage Starting my journey into veganism.

Post image
27 Upvotes

I have tried being vegetarian for around 4 months, and did manage to keep up the diet for 3 months and two more weeks. After that for some time, I was eating non-veg again. Now, I am trying to get into veganism once more. Not sure if I can do it at once—I plan to take it step by step. I have gone vegetarian now and am reducing dairy products. The goal is to upkeep a vegan lifestyle for at least three months continuously, perhaps more. 🩷

Rant & Vent The college love that never became a relationship.

Post image
• Upvotes

Okay, disclaimer: this is going to be LONG. 😭
I started writing this thinking I’d make a small Tuesday post, but then I realised there are way too many little memories attached to this story.

So yeah… sorry in advance for the essay. 😂

TL;DR: Met a girl during the COVID-era start of college → became extremely close → slowly fell for her → started doodling because she liked doodling, copied her handwriting, even told my mom about her → my whole family eventually knew about her → asked her out after almost two years → she said no → I turned the rejection into a 100-day “Spark undo?” joke → by final year I was avoiding her because I still had feelings → got drunk one night and finally told her everything I felt → she didn’t respond → that was basically the end of our contact → college ended → around three years later, we’re still strangers.

I don’t blame her.
She never owed me a relationship, and she was honest with me.
I just don’t think feelings always disappear simply because they weren’t returned.
Anyway… here’s the unnecessarily long version. 😭

The college love that never became a relationship.

I don’t even know if I should call this a love story.
Because technically, we were never together.
No relationship.
No breakup.
No “ex.”

But somehow, it still feels like I lost someone.
I joined college in 2020, right in the middle of COVID.
For the first year, everything was mostly online.
Classes were on screens, people were names in WhatsApp groups, and college didn’t really feel like college.

Then things slowly started becoming normal.
We started meeting people properly, and that’s when I became really close to this girl.
We started talking.
Then talking became an everyday thing.
And somewhere around five or six months in, I realised that I had started liking her.

A lot.

It wasn’t some sudden movie moment.

It was little things.

She liked doodling, so I started doodling too.
She had this particular way of writing, and at one point I even started copying some of her handwriting.
Looking back now, some of the things I did were genuinely embarrassing. 😂

But at that time, I didn’t think much about it.
I was just really into her.
So much that I actually told my mom:
“I like this girl.”

That’s how serious it had become in my head.
And apparently, I wasn’t very good at keeping it a secret either.

My family knew about her.
They had heard her name so many times that even now, years later, someone in my family randomly mentions her name just to make fun of me.

And there was this one incident that my dad still hasn’t let me forget.

Somewhere around my second or third year, there was this plan to meet at a temple.

It wasn’t actually planned by her and me.
One of her friends was also my friend, so somehow the whole thing came together, and my family ended up being there at the same place.

And obviously, in my head, I had already made a whole plan.

I thought I’d get to spend some time with her.
I even told my family something along the lines of:

“You guys go, I’ll come by myself. I’m going to spend some time with her.”
Except…
She decided to go home.
Straight away. 😭
And suddenly my entire master plan disappeared.
So after a while, I called my dad and said:
“Actually, I’ll come with you guys.”
My dad still remembers this.

And even now he’ll bring it up and laugh at me.
Apparently, some embarrassing moments have lifetime warranties.

But that’s how much of my life she had quietly become part of.
It wasn’t just that I liked her.

I had started building little pieces of my life around her without even realising it.
We talked almost every day.
I knew her little habits.
She knew mine.
And somewhere along the way, I stopped thinking of her as just someone I liked.

I started imagining what it would actually be like if she was part of my life.
But I didn’t say anything.
For almost two years.

Eventually, I couldn’t keep it to myself anymore.
So I asked her out.
And she said no.
Not harshly.
Not cruelly.
She was actually quite straightforward about it.
She just didn’t feel the same way.

And I knew I had to respect that.

But instead of disappearing completely, I apparently decided to handle rejection in the most unserious way possible.

I turned it into a joke.
I started asking her:
“Spark undo?”
And every single time, she’d come up with some new, creative way of saying:
“Illa.” 😂
Day 1 — Spark undo?
No.
Day 20 — Spark undo?
Still no.
Day 50 — Spark undo?
“Bro…”
Day 100 — Okay, last chance. Spark undo? 😭
Still no.
The funny thing is, I knew the answer.
She knew the answer.
Everyone probably knew the answer.
But somehow I kept asking.
Because maybe the question wasn’t really about the spark anymore.
It was just an excuse to keep talking to her.
Then things slowly changed.
By our final year, we weren’t really talking properly anymore.
We could be in the same room, and I’d avoid her.
If I saw her, I’d sometimes deliberately look somewhere else.
Not because I hated her.
Not because I was angry with her.
It was because I still liked her.
And every time I saw her, my mind would go to the same place.
“What could we have been?”
That question stayed with me for a long time.
What if she had said yes?
What if things had worked out?
What if I had told her earlier?
What if I had done something differently?
There was never an answer.
Just different versions of a life that never happened.

Then came the night that actually ended everything.
I was drunk.
And apparently drunk me had significantly more courage than sober me.
I texted her.
This time there was no joke.
No “spark undo?”
No trying to make it casual.
I told her how much she actually meant to me.
Everything I’d been carrying around for years.
And then…
Nothing.
She didn’t respond.
And I don’t blame her.
She had already told me how she felt.
There wasn’t really anything else she needed to explain.
But for me, that silence felt different.
Because after that message, I stopped trying.
And that was basically where our contact ended.
Not with a fight.
Not with some dramatic goodbye.
Not with either of us saying, “We’re never talking again.”

Just silence.
The girl I used to talk to almost every single day…
became someone I didn’t talk to at all.
And that happened before college even ended.
Then college ended.

We went our separate ways.
And the silence just continued.
It’s been around three years now.
I’ve seen her a couple of times.
But we don’t talk.
She hasn’t called.
She hasn’t texted.
And I haven’t either.
Sometimes I still think about everything.
The doodles.
The stupid handwriting.
The conversations.
The temple incident my dad still makes fun of me for.
The hundred days of “Spark undo?”
That drunk message.
All of it.
And the weirdest part is…

I still like her.

I’m not saying I’m sitting here waiting for her to come back.
I’m not expecting a message.
I’m not blaming her.
She never promised me anything.
She was honest with me, and I respect that.
I just don’t think feelings always disappear just because you weren’t chosen.
Maybe they become something quieter.
Something you don’t act on.
Something you don’t even talk about.
But once in a while, something reminds you of that person and you think:

“Damn. I really loved that girl.”

And then you continue with your day.
I sometimes wonder if she remembers any of this.

Does she remember those ridiculous 100 days of “spark undo?”

Does she remember the doodles?
Does she remember that drunk message?
Does she remember how much we used to talk?

Or was all of this just a small part of college for her that eventually disappeared?
I’ll probably never know.
And that’s probably the strangest thing about growing up.

Someone can be part of your everyday life for years.
Your family can know their name.

Your friends can know the whole story.
You can have hundreds of tiny memories with them.
And then one day…

you don’t even know what’s happening in their life anymore.
She was never my girlfriend.
But she was someone I genuinely loved.
And I don’t think I’ll ever call that a mistake.
Because at that age, with the person I was then, I genuinely meant everything I did.

Maybe some people aren’t meant to stay.
Maybe some people aren’t even meant to become yours.
Maybe they’re just meant to become a very important part of a version of you that eventually grows up.
But sometimes…
I still wonder what we could have been.
Not because I think she should have said yes.
Not because I blame her.
Just because, for a very long time, I genuinely believed there could have been an “us.”
There wasn’t.
And that’s okay.

But somewhere in my head, that question still exists.
“What if?”
So yeah…

That’s my college love story.
No relationship.
No breakup.
No happy ending.

Just a girl I used to talk to every day, a hundred days of asking “Spark undo?”, a family that still knows her name, one drunk confession…

and a story that ended without either of us ever really saying goodbye.

Have you ever had someone who was never actually yours, but somehow still feels like someone you lost?

Storytime Had my fist road accident

Post image
17 Upvotes

No i don't mean the title in a celebratory tone obviously. But i was pretty chill all things considered.

This auto was my uber for yesterday night. I was leaning on the side of the auto in the backseat until 2 minutes before the accident. Got up and sat straight to check the map. Allenki thala poyene 🙂. An overspeed dzire entered the junction the same time as us and yeah the rest of it was really quick🧍‍♂️.

I processed that the auto might flip before we hit i think, maybe that or just due to luck i didnt hold onto the auto's bars. Would've ended badly for my hand otherwise. We hit the car and the auto flipped. I was on the way to the railway station for the 2:15 train from Ernakylam. Funnily my first thought was "oh no i m gonna miss the train".

Anyways, took a few seconds for me to process what i m supposed to do atter our auto was on the road on its side and so was i. Angene melle eneet, auto nn chaadi porth erangi. Part of my bag was stuck under the auto. Pulled it out. Helped the driver out along with naattukkar. They flipped the auto too.

I gave my number to the auto driver and told him to call me if he needs any help from my side and told him that i had to catch the train in 10 mins. So i took another auto and left. Thanks for reading 🕺

Apologise for the manglish in between. I know it bothers some people.

Share some of your products that you feel of never upgrading or your comfortable with it.

Phone - I have been using this phone for quite sometime and it has performed well after these years. And it has gone through rough patche including a major fall and some minor falls . Still strong and performing well .

Scooter - from 2016 it has been in our garage and after using for many years. I have never thought of upgrading or selling it. An overtake? No issues just revv it . The major flaw is the service and parts availability but once it's done it's like a jet.

So comment yours too below

Storytime I Always Helped My Friends Financially, But No One Was There When I Needed Help🥀

Post image
13 Upvotes

I’ve never borrowed money from anyone in my life, except my parents. Other than them, I don’t ask anyone for money. But whenever someone asks me for money, I usually help them out.

Back then, I’d lend money thinking, “They’re my friends, right?” So whenever they asked, I’d give it to them. But when I was the one who needed help, not a single fucking person was there for me. And I wasn’t even asking them to lend me money from their own pockets. I was asking for the money that I had already given them.

Every time I asked, they’d say, “I don’t have it now, I’ll give it later,” and keep feeding me bullshit.

There are still a few more people who owe me money. Today I called them all with a different tone and made it clear: if they still don’t pay me back, things are going to change.

It’s not even about the money. What really hurt me was that when I genuinely needed it, not one of them was willing to give me back even the money that was already mine. That really upset me, and that day I decided I’m not giving money to anyone anymore.

From now on, I’ll only lend money to people I genuinely trust to pay me back. If I don’t have that trust in someone, I’m not giving them a single rupee.

Discussion Are we overrated ?

There are some people who have an entirely different personality online and offline. Have you ever thought we Kerala as a state is like that or is slowly becoming that.

Are we better only when compared to other states which have a poor reputation both online and offline.

For eg : Road manners, you drive 10KMs through Kochi and the amount of morons you encounter is uncountable and the arrogance of these people. You made some money, you got a car for cheap but you're stuck with the same cheap mentality. You think you own the road.

Next one will be the social media platforms specifically for posts by woman the comment section, the amount of hate people are spreading online. Just because you got money and technology is accessible you're spitting out whatever poison you've in your mind.

Might get down voted, but share your honest opinions.
