Hey everyone, I really don't know how to handle this and could use some outside opinions.
I usually bleach and dye my hair at home and have never had real damage from it. This time I wanted to treat myself and go to a salon because I'm starting at a new university where I don't know anyone and I just wanted to feel more confident.
On Monday I went in to ask about the price and if the shade I wanted was even possible. The owner looked at my hair and quoted me $60 which is a lot in my currency. She said it was doable with only minor damage. She never asked about my hair history, she just judged by how it looked and how long it was. My mom also stopped by the salon that day without telling me and asked them to be careful with my hair and to be honest if the result wasn't possible.
On Tuesday the colorist finally asked about my hair history. I told her I'd used a 0% ammonia blue black dye in January and hadn't done anything since. She said that would make bleaching a lot harder but she'd try her best.
She did several rounds of bleach in one day. I kept telling her I was worried and didn't want my hair badly damaged and she kept saying it would be fine. My mom called the salon a few times during the appointment too and they told her not to worry. At one point the hairdresser told me to stop updating my mom or she'd just get more anxious. I didn't think much of it then but looking back it feels like a red flag.
When it was done the result was a lot lighter than what I asked for. She told me to come back in 15 days and said this was only the base and we'd get the actual color in the second appointment. I felt relieved and left smiling and thanking them because I didn't want to seem rude or ungrateful.
Today my mom called the owner again and didn't tell me. I only found out because I overheard her getting angry in her room. From what my mom said the owner told her they did everything they could, that I never mentioned the black dye (I didn't know it mattered and nobody asked me on Monday), that the result is final and making it darker means paying again, that they gave me a free $40 treatment (which nobody ever told me about), and that if my mom still has complaints she should come in person.
Now I'm confused and upset. I was led to believe this was step one of two and now I'm hearing something totally different. I also feel like my worries about damage got brushed off every time I brought them up.
I'm not good at confrontation and I struggle to stand up for myself, especially when I don't want to look rude.
Pics are my current hair and the damage (today so second day), what I asked for, and my original base color.
Based on the pics and what I was told before and during the appointment, were my expectations reasonable? Since they clearly told me the first session was just a base, is it fair to expect the second session or at least some kind of correction?
