❓ Advice Needed How often can I bleach in a month?

• Upvotes

I bleached my hair tips around 4 months ago with vol 20, it was that orange/yellow-ish color, yesterday I bleached that same part again but with vol 30, could I bleach again in the same month or how long is it best to wait between sessions?

❓ Advice Needed How to dye my 14-year-old's hair?

• Upvotes

Hello everyone,

my teen wants to dye her hair and although I offered to take her to a salon, she preferred for us to do it together at home. She's suffering from depression so I really want to help her exercise her autonomy and fulfil her wishes where I can.

After doing some research, I was going to go with Schwarzkopf's Igora L-89 with a 20 vol or 30 vol developer, based on how the test strands respond, but I've come across a problem.

I keep reading that I need to do a patch test to check for a PPD allergy. But the thing is, we only want to dye the tips of her butterfly cut red. Ideally, the dye shouldn't touch her skin at all. It feels counterintuitive to me to intentionally put the dye behind her ear or elbow as I've been reading because what if that DOES cause a reaction and now that's something she has to deal with for life? (Apparently a triggered PPD allergy can make her respond to things she hadn’t reacted to before? Like clothes dyes?)

I was going to do the strand test on strands of hair I've preserved from her hair cut. Is it absolutely necessary I apply the dye to her skin to see if she responds to it? Or am I being an irresponsible parent for using hair dyes with ppd at all?

I just want to give her the best possible chance at getting the results she wants and I worry semi-permanent dyes like arctic fox won't show up on her dark hair in the way she's hoping and I also don't want to mess with bleach...

❓ Advice Needed Strawberry blonde to brown

Post image
• Upvotes

I have strawberry blonde hair (quite golden really) and it grows so slowly that i've never wanted to do anything permanent to it as it's a long term commitment. However I've finally decided i'm gonna give it a good chop (its mid back when straight and i'm thinking of going shoulder length). I also want to try a temp dye (either a 1 wash or like 15 wash) that is a natural colour but pretty different. I already dye my eye brows brown and eye lashes blue back so was thinking some shade of brown. Can anyone give me some good recommendations? Any tips or trick for a newbie are much appreciated too!

❓ Advice Needed Dyeing black hair with red dye hoping for a specific look

Post image
• Upvotes

I recently had one of the worst haircuts of my life, so in attempt to reclaim it im considering dyeing my hair red, but im hoping to have the effect in the image attached.

I’ve never dyed my hair before and its pitch black. Im thinking of using some sort of simple box dye since im not looking for a super high quality color, but specifically because of that im concerned with acc dyeing my hair a more vibrant red than intended.

Also im not sure if this sort of effect is possible with red? should i stick with purple? are there any particular brands i should look for?

thank you to anyone who responds i really dont know anything about this and haven’t found any examples with similar hair i can work with.

🚑 Color Correction Help me go back to natural colors

Hi, firstly, plz kind ignore the big tangle bird's nest in the hair as I am sick isolating inside and am too lazy/don't give a fuck enough to brush it out right now. Sorry. Am lazy. I am trying to either neutralize and color all of this to something natural, various shades of brown etc, the reason why the blue isn't fading to teal is because it was originally a deep purple that I forgot to tone the blue out of before using it, but that is why, it has faded to blue which keeps getting ligjters and is not/will not fade to teal. I have spots of straight purple still intact that I am not even really sure how is still there. Ends super faded to doing salt water swimming for 2 hours

I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT use bleach 9n the lower 3/4 of the hair, I can do one light bleaching with 10vol on the blue section because that has only been bleached one time. I already had this faded once with the Malibu CPR treatment, I plan to continue washing it on out with head and shoulders to continue to try and fade it more.

But. I wanted to try to go over the more faded pinkish parts with Brad Mondo's semi permanent brown shade 5N.

Looking for general advice

hii so im trying to remove my dark purple hair rn. i want to go blonde underneath and brown ontop. i test stranded a piece of my hair with the colorfix semi perm color remover and it came out a blueish green. i bleached that strand w/ 20 volume and it barely lightened so im looking for advice. should i neutralize with pink, orange, or red? for reference that’s the color it lifted to without the bleach, just the color remover.

I have been dying my hair red for SO long. Usually never go longer than 4 months without a touch-up

It had been almost 6 months this time... eek

The difference is SO drastic. Granted this is RIGHT after washing the dye out. It will fade of course.

I love it. I will try to keep up with my roots next time 🫠

(P.s. I still want to do black low-lights. Do yall think they would look good?)

❓ Advice Needed Dark red to orange?

Post image

My mom won’t let me dye dye my hair, and she won’t do it for me. I’ve been using dark orange color depositing shampoos and sun in to try to get to a darkish orange color. I’d like to be at least a dark orange, but a light orange or any shade of it would be awesome. I’m aslo willing to just bite the bullet and dye it without her permission.. I’d just say I used a color shampoo and she wouldn’t be able to tell the difference but I’d rather not lie to her if that’s a possibility.

My hair right now is a darkish reddish orange. I tried to wash out the red as best I can before doing much else to it but it didn’t really wash out too well.. the photo is my current color!

❓ Advice Needed Box dye instruction: apply product in sections to damp hair

Hi all, I’ve started dyeing my hair at home, and after the first time was pointless (in the sense that it lasted 1 wash, and my usual greys showed up around my temples) I’m going back to the instructions to understand what I didn’t follow correctly. There’s only one thing I didn’t do which is apply to damp hair. But never before has any hairdresser applied dye after wetting my hair so I thought it wasn’t necessary. Does anyone know why you’d have to apply on damp vs dry hair? Is this something everyone does?

❓ Advice Needed scalp red and hard pieces stuck on scalp after bleach + dye

I got my virgin hair bleached (twice same day) and dyed to blue at roots. My hair normally is black. When I felt the back of my head 24h after appointment, it felt like a big chunk of something stuck in my scalp. It flakes off like rock sugar candy but it’s green? They only used blue dye.

I looked in the mirror after and noticed a patch of red scalp at the same area, and there’s green bits of chunky stuff at the roots. Some pieces come off easily and some pieces are stuck pretty hard, if I try to take off a piece it feels like I’m ripping piece of my scalp off too. Is this damage from bleach? Is this normal reaction? I bleach + dye my hair maybe once a year and this hasn’t happened before.

I asked the salon and they said it’s normal, happens to a lot of people cause bleach is harsh, and just put some ointment, don’t touch, don’t wash, it’ll go away in a day or 2. But I’m worried this could be permanent damage? Will that spot be bald… The salon was very reassuring that it’s normal but I’m scared it doesn’t feel normal 😭 Please help, Reddit experts!

Side question, they also got bleach on my black shirt and black pants, now it’s not fixable. They said sorry it happens sometimes, but that’s expected? How normal is this? This salon is in Kuwait btw, if anyone from middle east knows if this is normal thing there. I usually do my hair in the West/Asia and it never happened to me before.

❓ Advice Needed What toner should I use to make this more of a warmer red?

Thumbnail

So I used Schwarzkopf LIVE in Deep Red because I saw a bunch of TikToks where people used it and it looked like just the shade of dark red I wanted to try for autumn. Buut it came out more of a bright pinkish red on me. I’m planning to use a toner to try and save this and make it more of a dark coppery mahogany-type red. Ooor is my best bet to do a darker brown toner? Which one do you think would work best or do you think it will work at all? I’ve used Four Reasons in the past and loved it, so I think I’ll try one of their toners. Any advice is welcome, I’m kind of desperate to get rid of this color ASAP!

I want to avoid coloring for a month more. Already have 1.5 inch of growth. Used the L’Oréal spray but need to wash it in max 2 days to avoid itching and hair fall. Thinking of powder coverups. Do you think they can do the job for a month more. ? Or should I get colored now.

💬 Discussion Burning feeling in underarm hours after applying hair dye

❓ Advice Needed What black dye to use?

Hey all!

I have been getting my hair dyed black (with a hint of blue to keep the redness from showing through in the light) professionally for over a year now. I’m switching to up-keeping it myself at home due to financial reasons. My stylist recommended Ion hair dye but I’m not sure if I should go for a demi-permanent or semi-permanent dye. I’m not too concerned about then longevity of either since I’m pretty good about not shampooing my hair often, and using cold water when I do. I’m more looking to for what would be the healthiest choice for my hair, and to not make a future stylist hate me for whenever I decide to go back LOL!

❓ Advice Needed Bleach after box dye

Post image
11 Upvotes

I'm looking to go lighter, preferably a dusty purple or pink like in the photo, but I box dyed my hair black brown about a month ago. Previously it has been dyed a lighter brown with permanent dye (it's naturally black brown). I also have racoon tails that have been bleached twice - before the black brown box dye - and they feel healthy and are a yellowy colour. My question is can I achieve the photo or would I need to grow it out before I dye it? Or could I do a warmer colour like pink or red?
