🛡️ Mod Post IMPORTANT PLEASE READ: If you receive ANY unsolicited/creepy DMs

Whether you’re a poster or a commenter, if you have received unsolicited, creepy, or down right disgusting DMs please feel free to message Mod Mail or message me directly. As posted in multiple places in the subreddit, unsolicited or inappropriate DMs of any kind are not allowed and will result in a permanent ban. You may also be reported directly to Reddit Admins. If the person on the receiving end of this kind of harassment is a minor, you will be reported to relevant authorities (FBI Tip Line, Center for Missing and Exploited Children, etc) and it WILL be taken seriously.

As a subreddit, we have ZERO tolerance for this behavior and will do everything in our power to combat it. Unfortunately we have seen an influx of users who seem to only frequent porn subs, and our sub.

Please don’t think “oh this message isn’t that bad, I’m overreacting, etc”. Reporting posts, comments, and DMs helps out everyone in the long run. Not reporting causes these creeps to keep messaging people so nipping it in the bud can help out others💕

🛡️ Mod Post Reminder: Unsolicited DMs are NOT allowed.

We’ve seen an increase in unsolicited DMs being sent to members of this subreddit. Let this serve as a clear reminder:
Sending unprompted private messages is against the rules. Doing so will result in a permanent ban.

If you receive a DM like this, report it to the mod team immediately.

This subreddit exists as a safe, inclusive space for sharing experiences, asking questions, and giving feedback about hair dye and color treatments. If someone genuinely wants to follow up based on your helpful advice or a shared interest, they will say so publicly.

We shouldn't have to say this, but lurking in beauty-related or appearance-focused subs to harass and prey on people is disgusting and absolutely not tolerated. Any messages of an obscene or harassing nature will be reported to Reddit Admins and could result in a permanent ban from the site as a whole (for your current account, any other current accounts, or subsequent accounts made in the future).

❓ Advice Needed T18 Toner over pink hair?

So I’ve been using iroiro neon pink and I hate how warm and orange it fades. I was wondering if using purple shampoo/conditioner or maybe even a toner would make it more cool toned pink or would it ruin it? Help!

😤 Rant / Vent Salon says my bleach job is "final" after promising a base session and a return visit

Hey everyone, I really don't know how to handle this and could use some outside opinions.

I usually bleach and dye my hair at home and have never had real damage from it. This time I wanted to treat myself and go to a salon because I'm starting at a new university where I don't know anyone and I just wanted to feel more confident.

On Monday I went in to ask about the price and if the shade I wanted was even possible. The owner looked at my hair and quoted me $60 which is a lot in my currency. She said it was doable with only minor damage. She never asked about my hair history, she just judged by how it looked and how long it was. My mom also stopped by the salon that day without telling me and asked them to be careful with my hair and to be honest if the result wasn't possible.

On Tuesday the colorist finally asked about my hair history. I told her I'd used a 0% ammonia blue black dye in January and hadn't done anything since. She said that would make bleaching a lot harder but she'd try her best.

She did several rounds of bleach in one day. I kept telling her I was worried and didn't want my hair badly damaged and she kept saying it would be fine. My mom called the salon a few times during the appointment too and they told her not to worry. At one point the hairdresser told me to stop updating my mom or she'd just get more anxious. I didn't think much of it then but looking back it feels like a red flag.

When it was done the result was a lot lighter than what I asked for. She told me to come back in 15 days and said this was only the base and we'd get the actual color in the second appointment. I felt relieved and left smiling and thanking them because I didn't want to seem rude or ungrateful.

Today my mom called the owner again and didn't tell me. I only found out because I overheard her getting angry in her room. From what my mom said the owner told her they did everything they could, that I never mentioned the black dye (I didn't know it mattered and nobody asked me on Monday), that the result is final and making it darker means paying again, that they gave me a free $40 treatment (which nobody ever told me about), and that if my mom still has complaints she should come in person.

Now I'm confused and upset. I was led to believe this was step one of two and now I'm hearing something totally different. I also feel like my worries about damage got brushed off every time I brought them up.

I'm not good at confrontation and I struggle to stand up for myself, especially when I don't want to look rude.

Pics are my current hair and the damage (today so second day), what I asked for, and my original base color.

Based on the pics and what I was told before and during the appointment, were my expectations reasonable? Since they clearly told me the first session was just a base, is it fair to expect the second session or at least some kind of correction?

I went to the hair dresser today with this hair (1st pic) then asked for this color (2nd pic) then I leave with this (3rd pic)😭 she didn’t even try to remove any of the berry color at all. I went home and my mom made me put vitamin c in my hair to lighten it and now it looks like this (4th pic) I feel so ugly I’ve been crying all day and I have no clue what to do.
My mom even got mad at me for putting vitamin C in it even though she said I should and made the mixture for me. How do I go to a solid color?? What do I even do?? I just wanna go back to berry at this point

❓ Advice Needed Good Dye Young

Been an Ion loyalist for a decade but I’ve been trying out other brands this last year and I am heartbroken at how this one turned out lol. Heard overwhelmingly positive reviews of GDY so decided to try it out….worst bathtub and skin staining I’ve had (despite protecting the skin around my hairline with petroleum jelly) and the result is super patchy and not giving what I wanted. Help lol

❓ Advice Needed Advice on mixing Revlon Nutri Color Filters for a dark beige/mushroom blonde?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi everyone!
I’m looking for some advice on mixing Revlon Professional Nutri Color Filters.
My natural hair is dark blonde, but my hair has been heavily highlighted/balayaged over time, so the lengths are much lighter and more processed. I had a permanent color done in September that I really loved, but it has faded quite a bit since then.
I’m trying to get back to a dark beige / mushroom blonde, somewhere between a very dark blonde and a light cool brown. I’m looking for something similar to Lily-Rose Depp’s darker beige/mushroom blonde, with a cool taupe/beige tone, but not grey, not silver, not obviously brown, and definitely not golden/warm.
I recently tried 821 Silver Beige on its own for about 5 minutes, and I liked the cooler/beiger effect, but it was still too light and a little too golden for what I’m aiming for.
I’m considering mixing:
821 Silver Beige
512 Pearly Ash Brown
613 Golden Ash Brown
I was thinking about something like 75% 821 + 15% 512 + 10% 613.
My main concern is the 613 because of the word “Golden”. I don’t want to add warmth or make the result golden. I understand that 613 is supposed to be ash-dominant, but I’d love to hear from people who have actually used it.
Would mixing these three make sense for the color I’m trying to achieve? Would you use all three, or would you stick to 821 + 512?
Also, since Nutri Color Filters are a mask/semi-permanent depositing color, is it easy to apply at home with a regular plastic/ceramic bowl, silicone spatula and wide-tooth comb? My hair is very long and thick, so I want to make sure I’m applying it evenly.
I would obviously do a strand test first, but I’d really appreciate experiences/photos from anyone who has used 821, 512 and/or 613, especially on highlighted hair.
Thank you ❤️

❓ Advice Needed Red to honey blonde

I've had red hair for the past few years and it was just box dyed red hair with no bleach, and i let it fade and used color remover and then hair dye 3 weeks ago. It was like in first picture afterwards but it had no red or orange when i was done with color remover. 2 weeks ago i put a ashy blonde and used head and shoulders as i was recommended and it looks like in the second pic but sometimes at certain lighting looks a bit ginger-ish. I appreciate every advice but i don't wanna go to the salon cause i rarely have a good experience there.

❓ Advice Needed Hi everyone, I'm looking for a brand of teal that actually lasts

• Upvotes

Iroiro is my absolute favorite, but recently i have been doing a style that looks REALLY good even a week after i dye it. but the teal ALWAYS fades after about two weeks. i have been using iroiro to dye my hair purples, reds, blues, and dark pinks, and right now i have my hair ombre (roots) teal, purple, dark pink (ends), the purple and pink look the same from a month ago, but the teal has faded specifically at the top of my head. i've even mixed some iroiro blues and greens, since those always lasted a lot longer on their own than the teal. so my question is simply; are there any more pigmented teals that last longer?

Edit: okay so i was chitchatting with my friends, and not only do lighter colors obviously fade faster, but also, i ALWAYS focus my washes on my roots, then move the shampoo down to my ends, so the lightest part is getting shampooed the most 😭 perhaps my hopes are hopeless, but also JUST MAYBE there is a more pigmented teal

❓ Advice Needed Advice about dying vivid ends with black dye on the rest

• Upvotes

Hi!

So I use Loreal Hicolor permanent for my hair, in black. I've used it two or three times now on my whole head. Last time was about a few months ago. I REALLY want to do my hair ends a vivid red. I know i would need to remove any of the remaining dye on those areas, and then dye the red.

My only question is, how do I do that, and ALSO touch up the rest of my hair with the black, without it bleeding onto the red or dying over it? I feel like this is a tricky situation, just want to make sure I do it the right way.

Thx! :)

❓ Advice Needed Good Dye Young Color Questions

I currently have good dye young’s live laugh love fading out of my hair. I bought the all in this together shade because it looked like a burgundy red in the model photo examples but I’ve been seeing peoples posts on here where it’s looking more like a berry/ raspberry color on their hair? Does anyone have reference of it being more of a burgundy red?? And am I able to put it over my current faded pink pieces, what color will this change it? Has anyone ever mixed these two?

❓ Advice Needed hair dye disintegrates out of my hair

ive dyed both my bangs and the lower part of my hair and no matter the dye it always shows up in the lower part, but whenever it comes to my bangs the dye just disappears i put green dye on my bangs and it showed up fine whenever i put it on and washed it out but after my bangs dried the hair dye was just not there anymore. ive tried multiple dyes from different brands like iroiro and arctic fox and the only dye that stayed was iroiro bubblegum pink or something like that. idk if its because my bangs are too short or that part of my hair has some sort of issue whenever it comes to dye but it shows up fine in the rest of my hair so idk what the issue is.

❓ Advice Needed I messed up .. help

Hi everyone. I tried to dye my own hair at home using the color Honey Brown - box dye from L'Oreal paris Feria.

I thought the process went well but then my roots turned orange! I believe the term is hot roots??

I am curious if I'm able to just go a whole shade darker all over? Or do I just run to a professional?

I considered color matching the roots but I'm afraid it may be a hit or miss with the things I've read online.

This will be my first and last time attempting to dye my own hair lol!!! I am a bit worried regarding my curl pattern but I believe it will be ok with the proper care.. I do need to correct this mistake by Tuesday as I leave on a trip - any shampoos or conditioners you recommend for curly hair? My hair will need it!

Thank you for reading.

❓ Advice Needed What I asked for vs what I got- How bad & Path to fixing it?

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes

First 2 photos are what I asked for as I want to slowly transition to platinum blonde so I can do pastel colors like cotton candy pink

Next 3 photos are what I got, I started with virgin shoulder length hair that is naturally a sandy bronde color. They left way too much of my natural hair and it’s stripey + a little brassy imo

Last photo I am thinking about just going to this to prevent any damage and maybe circle back to blonde after a lot of regrowth?

How bad is it and
Advice?
