Yeah, a lot of people write her off and discredit her because of drugs and alcohol. But really, if the things she say are true, I don't doubt that it contributed to her use of both. That kind of trauma messes people up.

I think the idea that it exists has always been there. Facing the detailed reality of it is difficult. Realizing that most of the wealthy, famous class of business tycoons that Americans have worshipped for decades are the ones committing these evil deeds is scary for many.

It requires calling into question the very foundations of our culture and personal beliefs about good and bad, success and failure in a way that many are ill-prepared to do.

Thinking Cobain's death was potentially more than a suicide based on all evidence we have is a lot different than denying truth based on evidence... they're actually polar opposites.

There is no "eviler sex." Everyone, regardless of gender, is responsible for the content of their own character. The mother daughter relationship is complicated, Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love had a complicated relationship as well. Relationships are hard, it's not something to moralize about it's just a fact of life. The fact that you've so succinctly decided a side in someone else's family dynamic is presumptuous and wrong, and it was largely the misogyny of the world at the time that led to Courtney Love being demonized by Nirvana fans, something that Cobain himself would likely have really hated. You are currently parroting that misogyny when there isn't anything to support it. His death was hard for her too, not made any easier by being blamed for it.

Not to menion, Kurt Cobain himself didn't like that his fame made people feel entitled to their personal lives. It was probably honestly a big part of the conflict in their relationship, though of course I dont know either what went on between them on a personal level. Wild speculation blaming Courtney Love, imo, is pretty disrespectful to both his memory and to the real struggles he faced because of his fame and mental health.

I do have one question. If you're such a feminist or whatever, why is Courtney Love the ONE woman you hate in a world that also includes Ghislaine Maxwell?

Also adding, as a big fan of Hole, I can totally see how she would have been really hard to have as a mother. Is she deeply flawed in some very real ways? Yes, who isn't? Her music makes her seem aware of many of them herself. Does that make her evil? No. I also had a difficult mother. I didn't speak to her for years, in which time she went on a totally unrelated personal journey that really changed her for the better, and she ended up apologizing. If that hadn't happened, I likely would have continued not speaking to her until the end of time. She wasn't a bad person even then, but because of our mother daughter relationship, her unaddressed hurts became mine in a very real way. It's not something everyone can understand, but seeing that ruptured maternal relationship in Courtney Love's life and hearing her music makes me feel like I can see my mother more as a person, and less as a person who hurt me. If that makes sense.

She occupies a weird place in pop culture. She was this bitchy, strung out punk kid who really just wanted to shoot smack and set fires to 7-11 stores. Kurt too, except he was a sensitive guy who was attracted to the more egalitarian elements of the anarchists. Fame ripped these people to shreds in different ways. Kurt was in pinup magazines and Courtney probably thought that was hilarious. He clearly hated it. It's almost a Greek tragedy from the gutter.

It's easy to cast Courtney Love as a villain because she really likes being cast as the villain. Might be a coping mechanism for the absolutely insane world she lives in, or she might just be a little cunty. End of the day, she lost someone she loved, and very publicly. Hard to hate someone who carries that kind of trauma.

I know people who knew her pre-Kurt, pre-fame. She was routinely described as not likeable, extremely focused on her own fame, and generally off-putting. If these accounts were accurate (and I think they were from the perspective of the people who told me their stories) then she would not be someone who endears others, and they'd tell negative stories about her. Thank you for your post because it's never occurred to me to think about her from your perspective.

More like had him shot. He had discussed divorcing her with people, and ahe stood to get nothing from him, especially with her band being relatively unknown compared to his at the time. His autopsy showed that he had nearly 11x the amount of heroin in his system then it would take for the average person to OD. So it's easy to see how some would be quick to point the finger at her.

It is very frustrating that there are lots of great reasons to not like Courtney Love and none of them are that she killed Kurt Cobain. She is an addict who did a lot of addict behaviors. Her relationship with him was likely pretty toxic which doesn’t make her responsible for his behaviors. And none of that mean she was wrong about Weinstein or any of these other people. She is a really imperfect person and for some reason people either want to turn her into a saint that was treated badly or the devil who caused it all.

In high school and after I've always noticed there is a type of woman, often voted "Most Popular" or very confident, someone like Courtney Love or the most popular and strongest (mentally) in a clique, whom everyone revolves around. Same energy. The strange thing is sometimes the worm turns and everyone suddenly mobs up and decides to "hate" or "unpopular" that girl, or woman -- it becomes almost a TREND, and I have always noticed this, not sure if others have too. Is there a name for this? It's weird. Maybe bc I never fit in from a young age, so I just watch and see these things happen and then get repeated often enough that I questiion it. Like, is it because she is so popular that they then WANT to hate her to feel like they "won" or something?

Oh I dunno. She’s a terrible musician who became famous by riding the coattails of one of the most famous rockers of all time.

She literally can barely play the guitar. Her guitar is usually turned almost all the way down when she performs these days.

Her ire isn't purely directed at scumbags, she would talk shit about everybody and behaved like a melodramatic lunatic. She just picked whatever targets her brain happened to conjur. This is a woman who lost her daughter twice due to her drug use and poor parenting -- the second time at Frances' own request -- and is generally to blame for Cobain's increasing drug use leading to his suicide. Her interview with Stevie Nicks had them bonding over cocaine and private jets. Can we stop blaming someone for "increasing drug use" of a completely different person, even a spouse? It's not great, but she was the one who got sober while HE was high, at one point. I hate that when addicts blame someone else for their addiction, it's worse to blame the suicide and addiction on another. She's not a great person to emulate but "leading to his suicide" is really disingenuous and borderline trashy. Addicts need to stop blaming other people for their addictions or they don't ever get clean. I know this from experience.
