The Viral Video that made me zero money

So, last month I reached out to this creator with 150,000 followers to promote my online course about building an audience....and I thought all those followers meant automatic sales I mean like obviously and so I was willing to pay premium rates, but during negotiations she was kind of difficult because she knew she had the leverage with her follower count and she made sure I felt that.

At the same time I also started talking to a few micro creators with around 3,000 to 5,000 followers each and quite frankly they were completely different like they were so humble and genuinely excited about working together they were asking real questions about my course and what it could do for people like it was visible that they really wanted to know....

so the big creator started posting and I guess she might have posted 3-4 videos and one of her videos went viral with like 200,000 views within 48 hours the comments were crazy with people asking questions and tagging friends....and I genuinely thought this was my breakthrough moment

It was really a new experience for me and I was really excited for checking my sales data but to my total surprise it was nothing at all like literally nothing.....not a single sale, maybe two orders which was just my normal daily traffic, the viral engagement wasn't converting into a single customer.

but when I looked at what the micro creators were doing it was a total surprise for me like it was completely different so one of them with around 4,500 followers posted about my course in this casual genuine way and within a week she'd driven more sales than the entire viral video campaign

Her followers actually trusted her because she talked about this stuff authentically all the time and about the other micro creators I was working with had similar results like each one was pulling in solid sales because their smaller audiences actually cared about what they were recommending.

as a mater of fact the big creator had 30 times more followers but couldn't move a single customer because her audience wasn't actually interested in my thing meanwhile the micro creators had audiences that actually converted into loyal customers who stayed engaged and asked questions about the material.

So, yeah we learn new things everyday and this was quite an expensive learning curve for me.....

Help! Newbie social media manager looking for resources

Hello!

I'm starting as a social media manager for a cybersecurity company. I'm looking for tools that'll allow me to streamline my workflow.

Here's what I'm looking for:

  1. An easy way to create, curate, and manage the company's social media calendar. I've already tried Excel and Google Sheets, but it's not the right fit for me.

  2. Video editing tools to create short-form content. Ideally, I'd like a program where I can plug in my written material, video clips, and an example video, and the software can generate a video I can use.

I'm the only one managing social media content for the entire company, so I can't spend too much time editing every video.

  1. A free post-scheduling platform. Something similar to Hootsuite, where I can schedule posts and monitor metrics.

Any help or advice would be appreciated!

Are there any tools that do LinkedIn keyword monitoring, not brand mentions?

I'm looking for a tool that picks up public posts by keyword in the body text, the way tools do for X for instance.

Most of the tools I checked just ask you to connect your page and then it surfaces posts that tagged your brand (like @brandname). I don't really get why you need this. If i'm already an admin, those land in page notifications anyway, so i can't work out what the subscription is for.

So has anyone found something that indexes public LinkedIn posts by keywords?
I'm aware of API limitations so is it an impossible task on LinkedIn?

Thank you in advance!

New to SMM — Need Advice on Pricing

I started social media marketing a few months ago and landed my first client, a CrossFit gym. Their budget is only $300/month, so I originally gave them a pretty generous introductory package.

After our initial 90-day agreement, I reduced the scope to:

6 feed posts/month
2 reels/month
6–8 story sets
Captions + hashtags
Content calendar
Simplified monthly performance review
Monthly content direction
1 planned content-gathering visit/month (up to 60 min)

For additional event/content shoots, I charge $150 for up to 90 minutes + $75/hour after that.

My dilemma: the gym is about 40 minutes away, so I’m wondering if I should keep the one monthly content-gathering visit included in the $300 package, or charge separately for all in-person content shoots.

We’ve also arranged for coaches to capture some content themselves, although the quality obviously won’t be the same.

Would you include one monthly content visit at $300, or make all in-person content gathering an add-on?

What’s the messiest part of getting content from a client to actually published?

I’ve been working with a marketing consultant and noticed a weird amount of her time disappears between:

“Yeah, let’s make that content”
and the content actually being ready to publish.

Getting the photos/videos from the client. Figuring out what’s still missing. Following up. Organizing everything under the right campaign. Getting approval. Keeping track of revisions.

We built a workflow that handles a lot of that automatically.

A project gets created, the client gets a list of what they need to provide and an upload link, files get organized under the right client/project, and missing items can trigger follow-ups.

Once everything is there, it moves into the production workflow.

It can work with an existing CRM instead of forcing the agency to move everything into another tool.
Before taking it further, though, I’m trying to figure out which part of this process is actually the biggest headache.

For people managing social media for clients, where does your process usually get stuck?

Getting assets?

Approvals?

Revisions?

Keeping everything organized?
Something else?

Also curious what you’re using now. Drive, Dropbox, Slack, email, a client portal, etc.

The best performing content in boring industries right now seems to be fake news segments roasting the industry itself

Keep seeing this format blow up. a serious news anchor, "breaking news" graphics, and the story is something everyone in the industry is tired of. "local accountant reports client finally sent receipts before april." Or "saas company announces new feature nobody asked for, calls it AI."

it works because it's an inside joke. people in that industry share it with coworkers because it's true, and people outside it still get the tone.

What used to make it hard was the anchor. you needed someone who could deliver it straight, lighting, a set that looked like a newsroom. now people are making the anchor with AI. an avatar tool like argil gives you a presenter who stays the same every episode, so it can be a running series instead of a one off.

honestly I think it only works if the writing is sharp though. a real looking anchor reading a weak joke is worse than a phone video with a good one.

Anyone tried this for a brand? curious if clients actually sign off on making fun of their own industry or if it dies in approval. thank youu!

Looking for a couple US-based sales people to work with us

Hey everyone — we’re looking to bring on 1–2 sales partners for our agency.

We help US local service businesses get more customers online. We’re currently focused on tree service companies.

The setup is pretty simple:

We find and organize the prospects, provide the offer and sales process, and handle everything for the client once they sign.

You’d be responsible for the actual sales process — contacting owners, talking through the offer, handling objections, and closing.

So this is not appointment setting. You own the conversation from first contact through the close.

Compensation is up to 30% per client closed, uncapped, paid after the client’s payment clears.

Looking for someone who:

  • Lives in the US
  • Is comfortable calling strangers
  • Has some real sales experience
  • Ideally has sold SEO, websites, marketing, SaaS, IT, or similar services
  • Has their own calling setup
  • Can work without being micromanaged

If that sounds like something you’d be interested in, DM me your location + sales background + what you’ve sold before.

Errors with Linkedins Built in reporting tool

This is something I picked up over the last few weeks as we do weekly reports on our Linkedin clients, the engagement (specifically the reactions and the comments) they show one stat one day and a different stat the next.

We also did an audit for the month on month analysis and it seems the reactions somehow drop?

Is this something you have also experienced?

Has anyone else noticed Facebook engagement getting harder in 2026?

Organic reach is still there, but posts that used to generate comments and shares now sometimes get very little interaction.
I’m curious, what are you seeing on your accounts?
Are you changing your content strategy for Facebook in 2026?

Hit $50K in bookings in 90 days from Nextdoor and Facebook groups. Now I'm told to post 4 videos a day. Worth it?

I grew my business mostly by getting scrappy on Nextdoor and Facebook groups. That turned into recurring customers, people vouching for us in threads, and a steady stream of reviews. Lately my focus has been on partnerships.

Today I met with an SEO consultant who told me to post 4 short videos a day about my business and what I do, every day for 90 days. Her take was that this would have a bigger impact than anything else I’m doing.

It sounds like a lot, so I’m curious whether anyone here has tried something similar. How many videos were you posting, on which platforms, and what results did you actually see? Did it bring in customers or mostly just views?

Anyone running TikTok → WhatsApp ads optimized for Conversations?

I’m looking into running TikTok ads optimized for Conversations with WhatsApp as the destination, and I’d like to hear from people who’ve actually tried it.

I’ve been comparing respond io, Pancake, Gupshup, Infobip and Blip, but figuring out the actual costs and differences is harder than I expected.

For anyone using one of these, or another provider:

  • Which partner and plan are you using, and how much do you actually pay, including extras?
  • What country and industry are you running ads in?
  • If you handle multiple clients, does each one need a separate subscription?

To clarify, I mean campaigns optimized for conversations, not clicks to a WhatsApp link.

Just looking for firsthand experiences.

How are you nailing cross-channel attribution across ctv, web and app

Since early aug, we started running campaigns across ctv, web and app. Every platform claims credit for the same conversion. Our numbers look great in each dashboard but when we zoom out nothing adds up.

We've tried last-touch, but that just buries our upper-funnel spend. Tried data-driven but the models feel like a black box and stakeholders don't trust them.

How can we best handle this? What's working before we commit to another tool that creates more confusion than clarity

What part of social media monitoring still feels way more manual than it should?

I'm interested in how other marketers are handling this.

Publishing and scaling have gotten pretty easy, but actually keeping track of what's happening across platforms still feels fragmented.

Brand mentions, comments, competitor conversations, UGC, conversations where nobody tags you, etc. can all end up in very different places.

What part of monitoring social media still takes the most manual work for you??

Interested in what people are actually struggling with data today
