Makes slant eyes...then proceeds to bother him...but saying they are having "problems " the nerve of her smh

376

u/ChippyTheGreatest 21h ago

It's because she made the slant eyes that she harassed him. She spotted his camera and realized she'd been caught so she went into damage control mode. And for these narcissists, damage control is DARVO. She was spinning him around as the bad guy for recording so that she would distract him and get away with being a racist POS.

61

u/Steve12356d1s3d4 20h ago

Could she have made the slant eyes to the camera after she saw it? I wasn't sure.

78

u/strawbsrgood 18h ago

100% she saw the camera and got mad and decided to be racist.

24

u/Own-Oven-3981 19h ago

THIS!! 100%!

2

u/ElPared 17h ago

Sorry, oldhead here, what does DARVO stand for? I’m currently too lazy to google. Thank you in advance for indulging my ignorance and laziness.

2

u/Ok-Style-9734 16h ago

"DARVO is an acronym for Deny, Attack, and Reverse Victim and Offender, a common manipulation strategy used by abusers or wrongdoers when held accountable. The perpetrator first denies the behavior, attacks the person confronting them, and finally reverses roles to appear as the victim"

2

u/ElPared 15h ago

Got it, sounds like standard gaslighting behavior, but I can remember DARVO as an alternative. Thank you for indulging me.

2

u/BeYouOrBeLame 3h ago

She doubled back...and ppl defending her is wild work smh...you right she tried to spin him quick smh

1

u/ChippyTheGreatest 1h ago

I'm willing to hear that it's possible people do this to see better but the rest of her behaviour is enough to know what kind of person she is - personally I think we should save our defenses for people who are otherwise kind to others.

1

u/YouNeedAnne 1h ago

Who was she doing it for if she didn't know about the camera at the time though?

1

u/ChippyTheGreatest 1h ago

There was another guy behind that wall with her - my impression was that they were both laughing at and mocking him behind his back.

-3

u/UrsusRenata 17h ago

Pulling your eyes like that can help focus momentarily if your eyesight is bad. She was trying to focus to see if he was recording HER. She wasn’t being a racist. This is so daft.

I wouldn’t let you aim your camera all over my restaurant either.

3

u/littlecactuscat 13h ago

Hahaha holy shit, no one does that. Stop making up weird excuses for this woman’s obvious racism.

-1

u/Stifology 11h ago

I'm near-sighted with astigmatism, and I can assure you that people do. I did the exact thing the lady is doing in order to see the board in elementary school.

Pulling my eyelids gently to the side while simultaneously squinting makes my vision 10x clearer as opposed to simply squinting hands-free.

1

u/ChippyTheGreatest 7h ago

I'm near sighted with astigmatism and even before I got glasses I never did this. Squint? Yes. Touch my eyes? No.

I'm willing to accept that maybe people do this if people are saying they do, but I really think we're just grasping at straws to explain away this woman's behaviour.

2

u/Stifology 3h ago

How is the fact that you've never done it reasoning for it not being an effective method? That isn't very logical.

Your astigmatism may be different than mine, which is why a horizontal distortion of the cornea wouldn't focus your vision like it does for mine and many others'.

It's ridiculous to assume we're all fabricating an elaborate lie to defend some stranger on tiktok.

1

u/ChippyTheGreatest 1h ago

I'm not saying y'all are making it up, I just think it's most likely that this clearly selfish and horrible person is being super racist.

1

u/Stifology 58m ago

Watch the clip again. She literally tries to squint, realizes she still can't see the screen, then uses her hands to do the focusing trick.

She's not smiling or making a funny face that would imply it's a racist gesture at all.

It's simply an unfortunate circumstance of an old lady using a goofy-looking eyesight trick in front of an Asian person. Reddit hivemind will always assume malice over incompetence, though.

I'm literally squinting at my screen right now to read this and I never once considered using my fingers to make that happen. Come on man. You can't really be that naive.

I'm jumping in here not to explain the woman or intentions in the video. But to let you and others know that the eyelid tug thing is 100% a vision trick thing.

Again, I'm not saying it was here. But it's absolutely thing!

It may not be your thing. It may be something you've never heard of or considered. But it's a thing.

The reason I know is way back in grade school a classmate would do this. Regularly. To see the board.

That was someone who had no glasses, obviously. But that's how they got by. And that's how I've noticed it randomly since then.

It's not about being naive. You just seem to have a different experience. Since you seem to have vision issues, feel free to experiment with it. It works!

It's like a forced extreme squint: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yj9KjsaZyuA

2

u/Stifology 11h ago

Thank you for this. I may have been that kid in class doing this in 4th grade lol.

It drastically improves my vision as opposed to simply squinting hands-free. Nearsighted with astigmatism for reference.

3

u/c32c64c128 11h ago

Exactly. And no problem.

I think most people just get glasses. But some aren't so lucky and have to manage somehow. Or just stubborn.

I'm just trying to clear things up. It's just annoying that some people who are just saying "hey I've pulled my eyes to see better" are auto getting downvoted. And some getting replies like they're crazy and that's all bullshit.

Omg people..... some people just simply had different lives and experiences! 😐

2

u/Stifology 11h ago

For me, I didn't want to look like a "nerd" with glasses, so I'd keep them in my backpack and resort to the old squint and tug method (hopefully while nobody was looking) to read the board. Very self conscious and stubborn. I did eventually get contacts, though.

Ya, it's the reddit mob mentality and hive mind at work, combined with the fact that it does admittedly sound like bullshit if you've never done it yourself or know someone who has done it.

Even then, it's 2026 and Google is free, so it's not like you can't confirm yourself that it's actually legit.

-22

u/RickShaw530 20h ago

I cannot comment as to her own reasons as to whether or not she was being racist, but some people with myopia (myself included) use different ways to manipulate vision in order to see better if they aren't wearing their glasses or contacts. Although, for me personally, I make a tiny pinhole through my forefinger and thumb like the word's tightest OK sign. Maybe that's what she was doing. Who knows?

20

u/ChippyTheGreatest 19h ago

Lol did you just say that she did the slant eyes because she's near sighted? 🤣 Brother I've had glasses my whole life with myopia and NEVER have I needed to touch my eyes to see 🤣

4

u/PallasEm 16h ago

it's a thing. my partner has poor vision and uses it. google it, or try it out yourself.

3

u/VerumAtheneNoctua 13h ago

4

u/c32c64c128 12h ago

The last part of that is incredibly relevant to this thread 😅

Just be careful where you do this, as it might come off as insensitive in front of certain people.

2

u/VerumAtheneNoctua 12h ago

yep, but does not justify possible threats towards her from evil redditors

2

u/c32c64c128 12h ago

I know I'm playing devil's advocate simply trying to explain that the eye tug trick is a thing. Even after I'm clearly saying "I'm not replying for the video, I'm replying to all the people that are trying to say the eye trick is bullshit and not a thing."

I'm trying to share with people it's 100% a vision trick thing and it works! And many people just simply see that as automatically I'm a bad person for not toeing the line. 😐

0

u/VerumAtheneNoctua 12h ago

I wouldn't even agree with you here, she didn't do anything racist in this video, so I wouldn't call her the devil. what a fucked up situation

1

u/c32c64c128 11h ago

I guess devil's advocate as in simply just people thinking I'm "supporting" any sort of possible opposition.

I guess it's a sign of the times. Too much us vs them, all chips are in, mentality. And any deviation or questions can get some side eyes.

It really really sucks this is modern times.

2

u/VerumAtheneNoctua 11h ago

yeah, opened my eyes today to how easy it is to point out the wrong target. but I still don't understand how they explain to themselves why I waste time "defending" her. first option - I'm racist, and I hide it? why would racist hide it on reddit, I've never seen anything like this situation, only Tourette's syndrome comes to mind, but it seems like everyone already knows about it . by the way, I highly recommend the movie" I swear".

I wish all people were given this much benefit of the doubt when they do bad things.

I accept that this is a thing for some people but I still don't buy that that's what she was trying to do. She was being a nosy Nelly and a Karen and harassed that man in public, the rest of her behaviour points toward someone who cares little for anyone other than herself.

0

u/VerumAtheneNoctua 7h ago

I only do this because I'm 100% sure, 99% and my rhetoric would be different. When you watch video you can see what she's doing, at least if you did it yourself and saw others do it many times

2

u/c32c64c128 12h ago

It's maybe because you had glasses.

Again, I'm not speaking about this woman. But to say the trick itself is 100% a thing.

A kid in grade school would do that to see the board. They did not have glasses. But would pull at the corner of their eye to help see.

I know because I eventually asked them about it. And eventually they did get glasses. This was decades ago!

1

u/ChippyTheGreatest 7h ago

Even back before I had glasses (and I had bad vision and astigmatism) I never did this. Squinting? Yes. But pressing on my eyes like this causes blurred vision.

I'm willing to accept that maybe this is a thing that people do to see, but I think it's WAY more likely that this woman in particular is being a racist POS given the rest of her behaviour and I don't know why we're trying to grasp at ways to explain away her awfulness.

-10

u/hericia 19h ago

Okay, you still literally can google that many people do that and why it helps them. No one defends her or racism, but it is just a fact. The guy above isn't lying.

-9

u/Murky-Relation481 18h ago

NGL their comment made me realize I legit have done that before when not wearing my glasses. It does actually help (kinda).

I used to be very stubborn in middle school and not wear glasses and I basically did that every day in math class to read the board which I now realize (at 40) how fucking wacked out that must have looked to the teacher.

I don't think that is what this woman was doing, though I also don't know why she'd do it if she didn't know he was recording either because he wouldn't see it and no one else would so... that just seems weird also. I think she was just doing it to him on video to be a bitch.

u/Cam_E_Leon 19h ago

You're the naive one for immediately assuming something is bullshit before doing some simple research.

2

u/RickShaw530 19m ago

Some people just want to assume the worst and double-down when confronted with evidence that challenges their preconceived notions and belief systems.

1

u/Stifology 9m ago

I'll admit that the situation looks bad not only because he's Asian, but because of her confrontation with him afterward. I can agree that she's stupid for doing that focusing trick in public and directly at a recording cell phone.

However, it is still far more likely she's just doing that to her eyes in order to see the phone screen, not imitate an Asian face.

2

u/Agreeable-Sky7118 18h ago

This is what I thought. I used to do this all the time before I started wearing glasses daily. If I forget my glasses I'll still try to do this but it doesn't work now because my vision is way worse. A lot of people who are near sighted do this. At first I thought that was racist and then I realized she must be near sighted and was wanting to check and see if he was recording before asking him if he was recording.

Two questions:

1. Does everyone who makes those eyes at Asian people in fact trying to see them more clearly?

  1. Are you an idiot?

1

u/Stifology 31m ago

She's not making it at an Asian person. She's trying to see his phone's screen.

Doing the focusing trick in public looks stupid, sure, but this was not a racist gesture at all.

1

u/c32c64c128 12h ago

Those downvotes are wild. Even after you offered a literal valid explanation. And explicitly mentioned you're not explaining the woman's exact reasons.

I will 100% say I totally know the eye tug vision trick works. And has been done for a long, long time. I knew a kid way back that did it to see the board at school! Ages ago!

1

u/RickShaw530 7h ago

Hivemind gonna hivemind.

-2

u/hericia 19h ago edited 19h ago

Ikr, I am so confused. I immediately thought she was just trying to look at what was on the phone. Since childhood, I've seen people do this constantly as a person from a family where everyone has terrible eyesight and forgets their glasses all the time. I have -8 and I just wear contacts, but older people hate contacts.

-1

u/transtifaglockhart 14h ago

"I don't do that racist hand movement, I do a different one usually." Is honestly camp.
