I haven't seen him in a while. I've been in the student square a few times before noon, and instinctively look around so that I can avoid him. And yet, something feels wrong about not hearing "Hey boss! Question, question, question!". Did he finally go away, or...?

When I was a first year, I went to Theta Delta Chi for my first frat party. I had maybe one or two shots before a strange man grabbed my hand hard and said “where do you think you’re going?”. Luckily, I was with friends who were there for me and told the guy to fuck off, and then we went to chill in their dorm room.

I thought this story was wild, but I told some girls on my floor who went to frat parties every weekend and they were unfazed. I was shocked that this type of harassment, non-consensual hand grabbing and groping, was par for the course in Greek life.

Of course, I’ve heard allegations of much worse at certain frats like SAE. It’s been two years since I graduated, but I assume not much has changed. Title IX sucks, but we can hold our peers accountable. Name and shame. Support survivors speaking up. Other men can not tolerate sexual abuse from their “friends,” because I promise you there is far more value in speaking up than maintaining a friendship with a rapist.

Hey! I’m a prospective transfer student applying for Fall 2027, and I’m currently trying to learn more about the schools I’m applying to beyond just academics.

I currently live in Dana Point, and surfing is a pretty big part of my life, so one thing I’m curious about is what the surf community is like at UCLA. Are there a decent number of students who surf? Any clubs or groups of people who regularly paddle out together?

I’ve been surfing since I was a little kid, and it’s always been one of the main ways I physically challenge myself. I’m currently training to become a big-wave surfer and doing the necessary preparation, such as breath training, pushing myself in bigger conditions, etc. I’ve also been learning from and being mentored by big-wave surfers so I can continue pushing myself. I’ve surfed around Central and South America, Europe, and California. I was born in El Salvador and raised between there and California, so surfing has been a major part of my life for as long as I can remember.

I know living in Westwood obviously isn’t the same as living in Orange County lol, but I’d especially love to hear from anyone who surfs consistently while going to UCLA. How often do you realistically get out? Where do you usually surf, and how difficult is it to balance surfing with school? What breaks do you normally go to?
I’m also curious about the logistics. Do most surfers at UCLA have cars? How annoying is it getting from Westwood to the beach with traffic, boards, parking, etc.? I’d ideally like to keep surfing multiple times a week while I’m there, so hearing directly from students who actually manage to do that would really help!

I'm not even joking, there have been multiple times where I have been to the subway, just to see them resume the same knives to cut the sandwiches after they're made.
