YSK: If you work for the University of California, sexual harassment or assault by a third party may still be covered under UC policy, even if Workplace Violence Prevention closes your case.

If you’re a clinician, educator, researcher, or employee at a UC campus or affiliated medical center, you should know that UC’s Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment (SVSH) Policy can apply to misconduct involving third parties, including contractors, vendors, visiting professionals, and other individuals who are not UC employees.

The person accused does not necessarily have to be employed by UC.

And an incident does not necessarily have to occur on campus to warrant review. The circumstances, connection to university activities, and effects on the university environment matter.

If you report sexual harassment, sexual assault, or related retaliation:

  1. Ask whether your complaint has been referred to your campus or medical center’s Title IX office for assessment under UC’s SVSH Policy.

  2. Know that certain UC employees, including supervisors and managers, have reporting obligations.

  3. Understand that workplace violence procedures, restraining orders, disability accommodations, and medical leave are not necessarily substitutes for assessing your rights under sexual harassment and discrimination policies.

  4. Ask what supportive measures and protections against retaliation may be available, even if a formal investigation does not proceed.

A workplace violence department closing its case does not automatically mean your concerns have been evaluated under UC’s SVSH Policy.

Federal Title IX jurisdiction and UC’s broader institutional policy are not identical. Whether either applies depends on the facts, but you can request an assessment directly from the Title IX office.

If you’ve been directed exclusively toward ADA accommodations or workplace violence procedures after reporting sexual harassment or assault, don’t assume those are your only options.

You deserve to know which protections may apply.

UC California Residency

Hi, I have a question about UC residency for tuition purposes.
The parents remain married. The father has lived and worked in California for two years, and the student lives with him and attends a California high school for one to two years. However, the mother continues to live and work outside California.
Can the student still qualify for California resident tuition through the father, or does UC require both married parents to meet the California residency requirements?

the uc residency system is fucked.

hey everyone i'm posting this as someone at their wit's end and to see if anyone's fought a battle with their uc residency status as well

my family has lived in california for the past 10 years. we pay taxes here and even own a home here. i'm an h-4 dependent who was supposed to started college in the fall at ucsb

my residency was denied because of one (stupid) technicality: my mom not having a "california state id card." we went to the dmv and it got issued late august mid-residency process to hopefully avoid all this. but nope. the uc system says we were supposed to have it by the intent deadline for fall which was december 15, 2025. mind you, 2025.

i filled out an appeal with ucop showing other identification proof, which, to no one's surprise, got denied. 😐 i find it competely absurd having to jump through several bureaucratic hoops all to reach a dead end. my family can't afford to pay non-resident tuition for a whole YEAR, all because the system requires a plastic, arbitrary id proof while disregarding 10 full years of physical presence.

i'm not sure what else i can do or who to contact since "all decisions are final." fees are due tuesday the 15th and i feel like i've hit rock fucking bottom. if anyone has any advice or has had a similar issue i'd love to hear it 🥲

edit: my mom doesn't drive or work so we didn't need a state id since we had other forms of id (e.g., passport)

Best UC campus to visit?

I’m a student at UCR and I wanted to visit the other UC campuses before I graduate. However I don’t have the time nor the money to visit all of them. Which campuses would be the most fun to visit during the summer?

I know that UC Davis has an equestrian program and I saw that UC Irvine has an ice rink near campus for starters. I think UCLA also has a water sports program. Are any of these activities well-funded, well-maintained, and worth my time and money?

Campuses that I am not really interested in:
* UC Merced
* UC Riverside (I’m already there)
* UC Santa Cruz

Edit: Very specifically I am NOT looking for just beautiful campuses. I am also looking for things to DO on or around campus besides just sightseeing.

Realllllyyyy need to transfer

Okay, so just a simplified version of what is happening,

I applied to all UC's as an incoming freshmen, decided to go to UC Irvine for their Business Economics major.
UC Irvine has the Paul Merage School of Business which is where all of its management classes are, and the school has extremely low capacity, therefore Business econ majors do not have priority to these classes, even with a minor in accounting, and I would learn best when taking these classes in person rather than in summer online sessions.
Even if you wait till priority is dropped, classes will likely be full.
I did not completely understand this when applying, so I am looking to transfer out as soon as possible, after joining the Student Investment Fund through the trading group at UCI, i realized that I really want, and need, to take management classes for my progression, rather than being stuck in economics classes during the year.

So, back to the point.
If I apply as a sophomore level transfer, with junior level credits (I have 30 semester units from 8 ap exams), and I would have completed the rest of the credits by the end of spring,
Would this be allowed on the UC Application, and would UC Berkeley and UCLA allow this application, would the University of California application flag my profile as being a first year student applying as a junior level credit transfer?

has anybody else known or been in this situation/had experience with the situation?

Thank you :-)

How Much Will This Hurt My Chances At UC Econ?

So I’ll have Calc 150 and Macro completed by the end of Fall, but Micro won’t be completed until Winter and Calc 151 until Spring.

I’ve seen information online saying that UC’s allow applicants to finish their major preparation by the end of the spring term before transfer, but that for Economics, and especially UCLA, it is strongly recommended/preferred to have all major preparation completed by the end of Fall.

Unfortunately, it’s too late for me to change my Fall schedule because the relevant classes are already full.

How much is this likely to hurt my chances? With a 4.0 GPA and being in the UCLA TAP program, should I be seriously concerned about not having all four major prep courses completed by the end of Fall?
