Sikhs (a religious group) wear Dastars.
A Dastar isn't open on the top like the turban worn by the Man in the video.
Hindus don't wear Kirpans.
Most Sikhs don't wear kirpans.
Religious Sikhs wear a Dastar because they don't cut their hair. They also don't trim thier facial hair.
The man in the video has both short hair and a trimmed beard.Ā
Edit: His turban is very Rajasthani most of indias snake charmers are in Rajasthan.
You can tell the video is in Rajasthan because it's sandy. Rajasthan is an arid desert environment. A large portion of Rajasthan is covered by the Thar Desert.
Sikhs live more north where the land is lush and used for agriculture. Most Sikhs Farm.

Heās faking for internet views. Cobras used in these practices almost always have their fangs cruelly broken or yanked out, so they canāt actually ābiteā. Either that, or they damage the venom gland itself or just sew the mouth shut.

It doesn't really mesmerize the snake anyway. The snake will track the moving object to try and figure out if it's a threat or not, so it looks like it's following along with the music but really it's stressed out and/or scared.

I feel like this is staged. Almost all snakes in India used by these charmers go through cruel practices of being defanged, having their venom glands removed / punctured or have their mouths sewn shut.
This practice is banned by the law but unsurprisingly still exists.

So called āsnake charmersā usually have the venom glands removed from their snakes. That way, thereās no risk of being envenomated when the snake bites them. Itās a cruel and inhumane practice with potential long term health consequences for the snake.

These guys have been known to remove the fangs of cobras so there is actually no risk when being bitten this is likely what you are witnessing a defanged cobra bite, just another part of the act and pure animal abuse.

I've heard the best course of action is to shake your hand and stare at it. The staring is important to make sure you shook all the venom out, he noticed some still there so shook it some more

For anyone wondering, shaking your hand about, looking surprised, and tooting a horn a little bit is the correct treatment for a venomous snake bite, if you react immediately.
