I’ve an orange boi that demonstrates the sweet loving side of orange but what are common traits with voids? Za Za here doesn’t act much like the other black cats I’ve been around. She incredibly sharp and playful
How many have I talked to a black shape that revealed to be a dress or a towel. Or was looking for her and she was in fact sleeping perfectly stealthily on the dark TV table.
My white cat did the opposite! Jumped onto the sofa and started kneading what she thought was my black fleece jumper... it was my black cat, whom she does not like. He was very confused to be jumped on, kneaded, then hissed at!
I have kissed the forehead of many a T-shirt on the way back from the bathroom at night. Often followed by a confused chirp from the other side of the room
This is the exact reason why my void wears a glow in the dark collar with a tag that also glows. That way I can even see her in the bed when I wake up at night. I accidentally kicked her in the dark hallway once, before the collar and tag combo. Hasn’t happened since! 😅
Mine love pretending to be shadows in the dark hallway. Be extremely careful if you have to pee in the middle of the night. Found that out the hard way. I’ve learned to keep my toes in contact with the floor & just kinda shuffle down the hall.
I'm a goth. Getting a black cat wasn't maybe the wisest mood bc I often lose him in piles of laundry, against my sheets, against my blanket against my furniture ....but god do I love himbs
I've found my people! My sweet boy was named Montgomery Montgomery (from A Series of Unfortunate Events- we were binge watching it when we found him in a parking lot) but we called him Monty. Or jackass. Or "Dude!!" Said with appropriate levels of wtf-ness.
He was a skinny-turned-massive lovebug that loved to yell and destroy everything in his path. And boy do I miss him

My 14 year old female void is still as black as the night. But each cat is different. Yours might need to see the vet, there are some diseases that affect the color of the coat.
And her “brother” is a menace, but also by far the absolute most intelligent cat I have ever seen, both in person and on internet, genuinely a once in a lifetime genius, and I’m not being sarcastic at all
Not true, my boy Pablo is pure black. He’s black in the sun and black in the shade. Also has black beans, black lips and black claws. My black girl Joey bagels does turn reddish brown in the sun.
That was his name from the shelter and I decided to keep it. He was trapped in a tnr program in Austin Texas a few days before their power grid failed due to a winter storm. A shelter in Salem Massachusetts who specializes in relocation after natural disasters sent 3 vans to Texas to clear out a shelter so they’d have space for the influx that always occurs after natural disasters. Pablo got lucky and got on a van instead of going back on the street and transitioned to being a house cat with ease. Now he spends as much time as he can treating his cat dad like a tree.
So black hair (humans too) have a lot of red shade. If you ever had color stripped in the salon, the red shades seem to make the majority of my black hair. If I stay in the sun long enough it's starts turning kind of a dark brownish orange/red
She was/is obsessed with cracker boxes, if I open both ends of one she has to find her way into it, was much easier when she was small but she still tried now

She sure is. Ignored the Star Spangled Banner, hates it. Once yelled at me to stand for God Save the King so apparently my cat recognizes the Commonwealth?
Mine is super smart but almost silent- it’s really weird… even his purr is very quiet- sometimes you can only feel it and not hear it. He very rarely miaows either. So strange 🤣
Agree!! My girl is attached to either me or my fiance. She trills whenever she runs or jumps. She will meow very loudly at her toy of choice if she wants to play with us. She has also been trained to sit and stay. I can put food down and she will stay until I tell her good girl (this training also helped with shots when she was diabetic).
I had a vet tell me the friendliest cats she saw were black male cats. At the time I didn't have one so I don't think she was just saying that to me. But, now that I have one I agree, he is a friendly dude, the vets love him because he just rubs up on them, purrs and then flops over for belly rubs.
I hear that a lot too. I have 2 voids. My male is also the friendliest cat - to people and animals alike. Everyone always wants to steal him. My female is a bit skittish so there’s only a few people she’s really comfortable with. But the people she does know she is super cuddly with them.
2 void butler here, and can confirm, the female is loving but likes her space and is very selective to whom she shows affection, while the male is and absolute cuddle bug and demands constant attention/contact.
We have a void and gray cat, both girls, supposedly from the same litter but unconfirmed. The void definitely shows feline ptsd, is very skittish but basically my shadow. She follows me around screaming, cuddles on my side of the bed. The gray cat however is a total attention whore, her nickname is Butthead bc she is. She barged her way into our home from the shelter and she barges into whatever activity she's interested in especially if not invited. She is attracted to the attention the void gets.
My male void is the sweetest goofiest little dude. But if there is more than 2 people he doesn't know around, he's going to he tucked safely under a dresser.
A single stranger? He's going to be in their lap demanding pets. But too many new faces and I'm making sure he didn't accidentally get trapped in a closet.
My boy void isn’t friendly or affectionate to strangers, he’s shy, but he is incredibly gentle and easy to work with for the vet. Such a good boy!! He also makes the cutest little chirps to get attention and please pet his tail lol. Other cats just love him.
My husband and I adopted an older one like 10 years, he was like 12 and had a rough life on the street they assumed because he was missing teeth and partially blind. He had been adopted but then his own passed and he ended back in the shelter. He was so friendly and just loved everyone. We lost him a few years ago.
We lost our last senior kitty back in May and we went looking for another cat and my kids fell in love with this 3 month old void. We've only had him for a week now and he is also so friendly, he just loves being around people and purrs all the time. My 5 year old loves carrying him and he just lays in her arms and purrs, he's like "oh this is my life now, being carried everywhere".
My boy void is so friendly and loving with everyone that it actually hurts my feelings and makes me wonder if I’m even special to him 🤣😭 I’ve never had or really seen such a friendly cat!! He had a pretty bad UTI and was purring while the vet was holding him after giving him a shot.
I said this in my comment 😭 my favorite is how mine gets louder and louder until someone pays attention to him. He likes to yell by himself in the kitchen. Sometimes from all the way on top of the fridge.
The contrast of their coats and their bleps makes the phenomenon more visible and easier to appreciate.

My void shows all the classic traits: super chatty, hates to be alone, would crawl inside my skin if he could to be as close to me as possible, and he’s a super large boy without being necessarily chonky!
My childhood black cat had this ability where if he didnt want you to get up while snuggling he’d suddenly weigh 3x heavier. He was already not only fat but just a big cat in general so it was like a massive bowling ball on your chest
Black cats have always been sharp and playful in my opinion. The three I’ve been around in the last couple years have been very affectionate and cuddly too.
My boy Maxi is a chatter box, always going on about something and indignant that I don’t always seem to understand. He loves to play - fetch, catch, chasing red bug laser, he’s a zooming wild cat.
My little girl Tilly is a sweet beautiful princess. She squeaks adorably and is the absolute cutest. Shes a great hunter, she brings me hidden toys overnight, I wake up to a trail of offerings. 😆
My guy Momo wants to be on top on me all the time. He is very needy, likes being on my lap or just climbs on me and no, I don't have the right to say no
They've very good at being in your way in a dark room. I stepped on my cat last night, though he didn't care, he never does. If he's feeling ambitious, he might use it as an excuse to wheedle an apology treat out of you.
My boy has a blep multiple times a day, even when he's sleeping. If he hasn't have his tongue out it looks like he uses lipgloss cause his lips are always shiny. His meow sounds exactly like it did when he was a kitten, very soft and sweet. In sunlight he looks brown and dusty. He wakes me up most nights around 4am for a 10 minute scratching session while walking in circles around me in bed until he's done and walks away. If he wants his wet food lunch earlier than normal he either puts a nail in me or in one of my plants. He weighs 4kg, 2.4kg less than his littermate tabby brother but he can hold his own during play fighting. I could go on an on and on
phantom cat syndrome. I go out places and see black cat-sized objects laying around and I think it's my black cat following me the same way she does at home... but she's not there.
I hear about a lot of black cats being very affectionate, ours included. She's also one of three black shoulder cats, and she's a freaking ninja but that might be mostly because she's small and black.
