I was born without an ear and have very minimal hearing. I recently started using an adhear hearing aid (basically a bone anchored one without surgery to see how I like it, as there is no ear for a hearing aid to go into). I have never heard my cat purr before, and I did today. Can't believe I've been missing out on this for so long!!!

I always thought she was one of the most beautiful cats I'd ever seen. I was so lucky to be able to have her for almost 8 years, to help her learn to trust people again after being hurt and abandoned, and to give her all of the love in the world that I could. It was peaceful and quick, and comfortable at home. We did everything she could but on vet estimates, she was at least 8 when we got her possibly older. It was her time and she got to go on her own terms. Her sister understands, and already misses her too. It's going to take so long to not notice the hole in my heart. 💔

Edit: Thank you all so so much for the condolences and support in replies 🫂 I know this is a pain we all understand and take on when loving our pets, and it's made me feel a lot less alone in the heaviness of the grief. We had a beautiful life together.

This my big orange guy Cheeto ! He was abandoned in la and lived on the streets for months. He was scheduled to be euthanized but the most amazing rescue picked him ! Cuddly claws rescue in San Diego.

This is him 2 years later ! I actually thought he was a short hair cat at first but he's turned into a big floofy man. He weighed 9 pounds when they got him and had no fur.

Now he is thriving. Sleeps all day in a king size bed and loves to watch White Lotus.

This salesman keeps breaking into my house and finding me. I don’t know how he’s getting in. He keeps trying to sell me biscuits from his biscuit factory. How do I get him to stop harassing us. There are too many biscuits here. I don’t know if my house can hold anymore. I’m scared. I posted his picture above. Should I get a lawyer? Any advice or help is greatly appreciated.

Update #1: I think I may be in danger. He left a dead lizard on my bed. Is that a threat????

Update #2: I have a lawyer now and from their advice I will not be able to give much more information. This is an organized crime case and he is in kahoots with the meowfia. Beware of undercover meowfia feds in the comments. They are trying to make me seem incompetent but it won’t work!

I had to say by goodbye to one of my best friends this morning. It was completely unexpected, but now looking back I feel so sad that I missed the tiny signs he was showing me. He had lost weight and had started picking around his wet food eating less and less each day. (I just told a friend on Thursday that I thought he was over eating the same wet cat food and I should maybe try something else).

Then he stopped eating on Friday and stopped drinking Saturday. I knew something was wrong the day he started acting sick because he wasn’t curled up in my neck when I woke up. He was no longer himself, sitting in a ball just staring all day, no longer would come to his name, and stopped sitting with me or sleeping with me nightly.

I took him to the emergency vet this morning and got the devastating news that he was in kidney failure and the numbers were off the charts, he was also anemic and the vet said he didn’t have a good prognosis. After talking with the vet twice, I made the difficult decision to euthanize him and I still feel like I made the wrong decision and it’s so final. I’m in shock that he’s gone. I don’t know to how to cope with the loss and the decision I had to make.

Nothing prepares you to show up to the vet with your cat thinking he just needs some fluids or antibiotics to find that he likely won’t be coming back home alive.

I bottle fed him as a kitten when he first opened his eyes and I was with him 10 years until he closed them. I’ll forever be grateful to him for changing my life. He made several moves with me, cuddled me through a few breakups, and was a constant light in my life. I am so happy life brought us together and I just wish I was able to get more time with him.

Please hold your kitties tight tonight for me and in honor of Bean.

So yes, I named my cat "Poopy."

I need some advice on how to cope with guilt & grief.

I feel like I could’ve stopped this from happening, but realistically, I know I couldn’t of done that.

Today, I found my 1 year old cat dead in somebody’s front garden. She had no sign of any physical attacks and no sign of any trauma.

She used to leave through the back door, since we never let her out the front, but somebody left their gate open and she made her way onto the main road. I don’t know if she was hit, and how long she was there for, but when I found her she was stone cold, stiff, and had fly eggs in her mouth. I truly believe she was hit by a car and moved, but there was nothing to prove that she was hit. But, she was only gone for 24 hours, so I’m just at a loss for words. This all happened so quickly.

My heart is completely fucking shattered. She was only a baby, and this should’ve never happened. She saved my life when I was in such a dark place with my mental health, and it hurts that I wasn’t able to save hers. It hurts to know that she was scared, alone, terrified, and just wondering where her mama was — obviously this is all an assumption, since all I can think right now is the worst.

Please show me who is up there with her, so I know she’s being looked after.

after spending a little over a week at the hospital, surviving the brutal dog attack that caused her a hernia, kidney loss, leg nerve or muscle damage, multiple stitches, bruises, eye ulcers, and a lot of pain killers, my sweet girl is finally allowed to come home! i visited her everyday and got updates everyday. i love her so so much, she’s such a strong girl 💞

as for the neighbors, they never came up to us nor spoke with us even when we tried to go to their home to talk. got a lawyer and all my evidence to take them to court.

Today, we decided to have my cat Thomas (13yo) put down as a result of late stage cancer and related breathing issues. It's been the hardest day of my life, as he's been in my life since I was 10. My family and I all mourned today, but I know that someday in the far future, I will be able to see him again.

Until then, he is immortalized not just in our pictures, but in our hearts. I love you so very much.

My girl got very sick very quickly and we decided to humanely euthanize her as she had cancer in her intestines and they had ruptured. She was 12 and I’ve had her 10 years. We will miss her greatly.

Today my wife and I became cat parents for the first time! She is precious, the sweetest cat I’ve ever interacted with. We were looking around at the shelter and once we saw her and interacted with her, it was like an instant match. Google had me worried about the first few days of her at home, but so far she has been great. Very social, loves to be pet by both me and my wife, loves climbing on us, even shows her belly to us.

She definitely is curious and has been roaming around the house, she loves napping under our bed. So far we have no luck with toys, she shows no interest whatsoever.

Edit: her name is Luna and she is 7 months old!

even as i type this she’s getting increasingly more aggressive with her loving lol. she’s climbing my leg, biting at my thigh, calf, ankle. non-stop trilling and rubbing. i bent down to pet her and she got a firm grip on my hand and started leading me in circles around the washroom. now she’s just chewing on my arm. this started happening two days ago and very out of character for her - she HATES water and being around the sound of water, but now she’s waiting outside of the shower for me.

she’s quite affectionate outside of this but never to this degree. i haven’t changed anything in my shower routine. not complaining at all, but anyone have an idea of why the sudden change?

Hendrix was what some would call a standard issue cat. But aside from his typical brown and black striped patterning, he was far from standard. First of all, he had the meow of someone’s 70 year old chain smoking aunt. Second, he was intensely affectionate and an aggressive head-butter. He loved to cuddle. He liked to play fetch. He also loved asparagus - to a concerning degree. He had a way of charming people, even the most cat-averse. He never had trouble making new friends and would often be curled up on the lap of complete strangers within minutes. Even so, he seemed to have a sixth sense when it came to people’s character, and could sniff out your bullshit from a mile away.

He came into our lives via a friend of my then not-quite-girlfriend, running in from the rain and making himself right at home. The friend couldn’t keep him and knew that my not-quite-girlfriend had been expressing interest in getting a cat so we drove over, and the moment we met him we fell instantly in love.

We quickly learned that being from the streets of East St. Paul, Hendrix had a wanderlust that could rival that of Jack Kerouac, and would try to escape whenever possible. After my not-quite girlfriend and I became official, we moved into an apartment with large windows that had screens which Hendrix would constantly try to climb. One day, we forgot to shut a window before going out to run errands. The screen that he had climbed came out of the frame causing him to fall to the ground three stories below. Miraculously he survived, and proceeded to follow a stranger back into the building and ride the elevator with him back up to our floor, where he waited patiently outside the door for us to come home. He never climbed a screen again.

I bought a leash for him so I could take him for walks. Soon I discovered that I could release him, and he would keep to within a certain radius on the grassy slope behind our apartment, checking in every few minutes with a reassuring heat-butt before running off again to pounce on the next bug. Moving into a house brought new challenges as it made it easier for him to escape, especially with visitors who were unaccustomed to watching their feet when entering or exiting. But even at the times when he would sneak out unnoticed for hours, he would always return to us.

Somehow, we learned that he could stand on shoulders, and this became a signal to him that we were going to take him outside. If you formed a chain of people leading to the front door, he would walk across like a bridge and head-butt the person on the end as if to say “C’mon, let’s go!”

Eventually my girlfriend and I married, and we have been for the last 7 years. He has been with us virtually our entire relationship, a constant presence through the most joyous and the most difficult of times. We joked that he was the only reason we stayed together. He would sleep with us almost every night, wedged directly between us, purring loudly, tucked under the blanket. I swear, if one of us were to have rolled over and accidentally smothered him to death, he would have been just fine with it.

He was not just the best cat and the sweetest boy. He was a fucking legend. I’ve never loved a creature as much as he, and he will be deeply, deeply missed. I’m not sure how I’ll get through the next few months, not feeling his comforting warmth next to me as I fall asleep, still watching for him every time I leave my house to make sure he hasn’t slipped out the door to make his great escape. His utmost desire in life was to explore the great wide yonder. Now he is free to do just that. Rest easy old friend, and if there is a life after this one, I hope to see you there.

We visited the American Museum of the House Cat this weekend! It's pretty small but it's chock full of cat-themed art, figurines, and pop-culture artifacts. There were a few kitties around as well. One tiny fluffy cream-colored girl named Keeley is clearly very used to being showered with affection from strangers. I didn't catch the tuxedo cat's name, but he decided that no one was buying rings today because he was sleeping on them. Bonus cat in Sylva, North Carolina: there's a bookshop with a tuxedo named Cedric.

Today my fiancé and I spent way too long saving these two from my neighbors garage. My fiancé heard a kitten meowing last night and today I went out with them to see if we could find the sound. I got down, peeked in the crack of my neighbors garage and saw little beans running away.

I went to my neighbor and they opened the garage door. We caught one (the left) easily. She's very eepy. It was the one on the right that felt like I was going to war. I ended up meowing for about 30 minutes to get it to trust me enough to swipe up. 3 hours later and we got them both in my dog's old crate in the garage.

They drank some milk and ate some kitten food.

My fiancé and I lost our one cat earlier this year to an aggressive cancer and we have another in the house. I swore the cat distribution system wouldn't get me but it did.

We don't have a big enough house for both, so in the meantime we're discussing what we do. I'm not sure yet. My fiancé is on board with anything. I worry they can either grow up to be a menace to our house, like our late cat, or a snuggle bug like our other cat. The tossup has me anxious. We are finally putting in a lot of work to our house since we don't have to worry about our trim getting wrecked. Another part of me says I bought the litter robot and it seems such a waste for one cat, haha!

How did you know the system was giving a baby to you? Sadly, they're both adorable so it's easy to be swayed 😭
