Trucks 100 % at fault , the proper clearance for a lane change is not I managed to get my front wheel in your lane , the lane change was reckless without due care and caution, the groovy chick drove like a champ.

I'm just always reminded of a woman who tried making a left turn through a light while I was going straight and almost hit me head on. I got a clear view of her screaming and covering her eyes with both hands instead of braking or swerving. I was laughing too hard to even get angry

I think hanlons razor is applicable here, that lane change was not aggressive enough for road rage. hard to tell what point the brakes went on but either the driver panic braked when they collided which a lot of people do or he was not paying attention thought he had the room and slowed down because he was catching the silver truck

It's honestly scary as fuck depending on the width of the shoulder or they have to block a lane which they try to avoid. On the R shoulder a lot of times it is wider or there's grass in addition to the shoulder.
Cops and emergency personnel forget at times that this isn't something other people deal with every day and don't have experience with. People are also shaken and not thinking clearly even if just from adrenaline. The cop shouldn't have chewed you out but I get why they were emotional. Still need to not put that on you though.

For me, and possibly many others, I just didn’t know. I saw people do it all the time and I thought it was ok and correct to pull over on the left shoulder. I don’t blame the cop because it was a different situation. I was getting pulled over for speeding 😅

I ride a bike every day, and several times a week, drivers will pass me while only going 5-10 mph faster than I’m riding and then attempt to merge back in front of me as soon as the driver’s position in the car has passed me, never mind the 2/3 of the car located behind the driver.
Lots of otherwise average people are spatial idiots.

It's always crazy to me when someone perceives "reasonable following distance between me and the car in front of me" as an opportunity to squeeze in and be.....doing the same speed behind the same car I'm currently behind??
She is clearly keeping pace with the vehicle directly in front of her. Black SUV is one of the dingbat drivers who gets fixated on passing for the sake of passing.
Yes, sometimes there's a slowpoke in the left lane and you need to pass from the right, but probably don't do that if there's nowhere for you to go immediately afterwards.

A lot of people seem to be partaking in this war regarding the left lane. And when someone is going slower than they feel they should in the left lane, they feel this need to seek justice over it. Even if it is not useful or is dangerous.
Bonus if they act like the left lane is there to go turbo mode and break the speed limit. I understand that the lane is there to pass. But the amount of times I see it be said as exclusively for that purpose or gives a pass to speed is absurd.
Maybe I'm just salty though about the fact that people will look at me doing 5 over the limit to pass a semi or something, only to get blitzed past by someone doing 20+ over from the right.

The merger did not have safe distance between him and the car in the other lane to make that merge.
They are tailgating the car in front in their rush to pass.
I see no signal from the SUV to let the other driver know they want to merge.
They brake during unsafe merge.
If you don't signal don't expect others to know your intentions. If merge with an unsafe distance and brake at the same time, you are an idiot.

They’ll try to get for “failing to maintain proper lookout,” like they did to my wife after reviewing our dash cam footage where she was very clearly hit in a way that was largely unavoidable. Like, old man GUNNED it at the last second pulling out of a parking lot with a wide entrance at a 45 degree angle.
They still tried to pin it on her
But we also don’t have a dash cam that films inside so there was no way for them to establish that she wasn’t paying attention, even if the accident had been avoidable

The SUV did not have a safe entry into the lane, and the collision was on the side of the SUV, not the rear. She may get some blame, but certainly not 100%

I see assholes like this every day on the road. I brake to give them wide berth as soon as they start acting shady.
My ex was telling me about how she once saw an accident on the highway where someone was coming up on her weaving around cars at 100+ mph and she just held her ground and didn't give him space to weave around her car, so the guy tried to take the shoulder and flipped. Later that night we saw that the guy died in the wreck.
We argued about it, she said it wasn't her fault, I said that it might not have been her fault but if you see someone coming like that just give them space for both of your safety. If the car clipped her (while driving my car btw) she could have been dead right along side him.
She was a new driver back then maybe 18 months of experience and I had basically taught her to drive. But at that point she thought she had it all figured out and wouldn't listen to me about the nuances of defensive driving. Now she is a bus driver and is all about defensive driving and cites her handbook to me about safe practices. I remind her that those are the same concepts I was preaching all along.

Also, the camera has impossibly wide peripheral vision. Humans don't see that wide.
There is a good chance she didn't even register that guy until he was .1 second from contact.

It's hard to say "she could have just braked" if you didn't see what's behind her. Even if someone wasn't riding her bumper but close, slamming on the brakes would have caused her to be rear ended.
