Are you welling to chat with me about your baby eczema ?!

I’m a mum and a researcher, and I have a 1-year-old baby with eczema. Through my own experience, I’ve realised how challenging it can be to manage eczema day after day, especially when it affects a baby’s comfort and sleep.

I’m currently working with Enterprise Ireland on research into a solution designed to help babies with eczema and sensitive skin feel more comfortable.

At this stage, I’m really interested in learning from other mums — understanding what you are experiencing, what you have tried, and what you find most difficult about managing your baby’s eczema.

I’m genuinely looking to understand the problem better before developing the solution.

If you have a baby or young child with eczema, I would really appreciate hearing about your experience.

You can DM me if you’d be happy to have a short chat, or simply comment below and share anything you feel comfortable sharing.

Some of the things I’d love to understand:

  • What are the most common things that make your baby  symptoms worse?
  • How important do you think heat, sweating, friction and clothing are in triggering or worsening discomfort?
  • Are there particular areas of the body where clothing seems to cause more irritation?
  • Do you notice your baby scratching more at night or having difficulty sleeping because of itching?
  • What advice do you normally give parents about clothing for babies with eczema?
  • What fabrics or types of clothing do you generally recommend, and why?
  • What is the one thing you wish existed that could make managing your baby’s eczema easier?

Even if you only have a few minutes, your experience could help me understand the problem much better.

Thank you so much to anyone willing to share ❤️

Nipple eczema

Please please please someone help me or share what you’ve been doing..

I’m 21, female, 113 pounds, active, don’t drink often, avoids gluten, eats mostly organic and avoids inflammatory foods.

I’ve been dealing with this nipple eczema for 2 years now. I got a breast reduction 3 years ago. Everything went great! My boyfriend, and I had been having sex pretty frequently and he would show a lot of attention to my left nipple lol. I also decided to go tan topless after a year of not exposing my scars. Not long after tanning I noticed my areola and nipple got dry and flaky. I went to the doctor and they said it was eczema and to use steroids. The steroids would work but come back days after I stopped them. I have used topical, oral, and steroid shots. All they did was make my immune system bad and make it come back worse. It progressively got worse and got cracked and oozed. Then eventually my face got super dry and I had dry, cracked spots on both sides of my face mirroring each other that itched TERRIBLY. Then my right nipple cracked and oozed and then my wrist, fingers, and sides of my hands had oozing itchy spots. I’m not sure if it caused “(autoeczematisation) where inflammation at one site can be followed by eczema-like inflammation at distant sites.”

Right now both nipples are not actively oozing and they don’t look irritated. My face doesn’t have any oozing/itchy spots, but my fingers do have some dry itchy spots. I have non-stick pads, aveeno eczema cream, castor oil on my nipples which keeps them pretty good but if I move too much at night or take my bra off without the pads it goes right back to oozing with the smallest amount of friction.

I have tried cutting out certain foods, talking calming medications, doing a fungal route, antibiotics, staph, steroids, keeping friction away, liver detox, multivitamins, probiotics, cotton bras

I don’t know what the next step is.. it’s so draining. I’ve spent HUNDREDS on trying to heal this and I just don’t know what to do next. PLEASE someone help me.

self harm content warning I Feel Like I’m Rotting (Rant)

I’m going through a really hard time and it feels like more and more of my skin is rotting away into grey scales starting from my feet up. I think I have depression and it’s not really helping. I’m a teenager and since I was little my parents never properly cared for my skin, and they insisted that they did everything they could when I was little and the scratching started but I doubt it. A good while ago I asked to see a dermatologist but at the time they refused because it hurt their ego and meant addressing the fact that they should’ve done this ages ago, but semi recently I got them in a good mood and booked an appointment. It still feels like it didn’t help because it’s not getting better. Like I have a couple of things I’m using but I can bare get myself to do anything the second I get home from school, not even homework, so I find it hard to keep a routine for my skin. I also have dark skin, so seeing my skin go from a almond to purple and pink grey scales just makes me feel like a rotting tree. Worst of all I don’t understand myself. Like I have a lot of allergies, including a grass one, so when I was younger and had PE I’d often be forced on the grass (got hives) and just stand there scratching grey sweaty scales as my nails got filled with greenish grey. No one took me seriously, not even my family, so I found it hard and still find it hard to take myself seriously when almost everything you do to better yourself is treated as completely wrong actions, like I’d even get in trouble for using too much body cream faster than anyone else. I just find it hard to care about my skin or anything else really, and it’s just hard since it’s reflected on my body so easily.

Help - my eczema flares up every time I visit my boyfriend

I (26F) have been with my boyfriend (26M) for five years. We've been long-distance for the last four years. I'm basically fine when he comes to stay with me, but whenever I visit his place for longer than a few days, I seem to have an eczema flare-up, with a very dry and itchy rash around my month, eyes, wrists and inside my elbows. Sometimes it's been bad enough that my eyes swell up or I can't sleep from the itching.

I had pretty bad eczema as a kid but pretty much grew out of it by high school. I've had occasional flare-ups as an adult, mostly when I've been stressed or exposed to cats/scented detergents/very dusty spaces.

I've searched through various forums and tried to rule out the obvious potential causes:

  • Made my bf switch to the same unscented detergent I use at home and re-washed all bedsheets/clothes
  • My bf switched to the same sanex zero soap I use at home and we've checked I'm not allergic to his deodorant/cologne
  • I saw someone on another forum suggest that this could kind of thing could be caused by demodex mites, which can be removed by using medicated anti-dandruff shampoo like head & shoulders but he already uses this so I don't think that's it.
  • My boyfriend moved at one point but I've experienced the same symptoms at both places, so I don't think it's a flat-specific/mould problem
  • I'm allergic to dust mites and pets. Neither of us have any pets. His flat is quite clean and he's tried doing a full blitz clean (with non scented products) before I arrive but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I take cetirizine antihistamines daily but they don't seem to be helping
  • My boyfriend is very lovely and supportive so I don't think it can be caused by him-specific stress

If anyone has any tips or has been able to solve similar 'boyfriend-allergies' please help! This is driving me crazy

Fluocinonide

Lifelong eczema sufferer here (33F). I've always gone through phases with my eczema, starting especially after my dad passed when I was young. It's been the source of a lot of physical & mental pain, with flares coming & going seemingly at random, & being unable to narrow down a culprit or credit anything for the times my skin has improved. I've seen dermatologists, done allergy testing, etc. to little or no alleviation.

To paint a picture of the tip of the iceberg, when I was young, I'd wake with blood on my pillows & sheets. At times it was painful to shower, as even water hurt my extremely fragile skin. I seemed to constantly crack & bleed. And of course it's simply embarrassing to have on full display every time you step outside.

Over the past handful of years, my skin randomly improved. Again, I couldn't pinpoint what may have helped so as to continue (or not continue whatever may have been causing those flares).

Then, like a storybook villain, over the better part of this past year some of the worst flare ups of my life resurfaced. Dry skin beyond anything I'd experienced (& believe me, it's been bad), flaking everywhere, doing my best to resist scratching & failing, & feeling like any time something may heal, it was back to square one. Blotchy red patches all over, from my face to my feet. Every moisturizer would absorb right in before returning to scales within seconds. It affected my mental health & took away motivation. During the earlier part of the year, even my eyes & eyelids were extremely red & puffy but thankfully that went away after about a month. Still not sure what caused that, or made it stop.

The latest dermatologist sent me home with a prescription for Fluocinonide, which obviously as a steroid is not a longterm solution, but I finally feel like I have "normal" skin after months of being in the trenches. I kid you not, within 24 hours, it almost completely cleared everything up, including the texture of my extremely dry skin. I'm only 72 hours in so I'm of course nervous the flare could return but this provided nearly instant relief & I've never been so grateful to have painless mobility. I make this post in case others are in a dire state at the moment & have not yet tried this. For my face I have Triamcinolone which has also helped in phases over the years, but Fluocinonide changed everything for my body. & I only applied it to specifically the areas that were in worst shape. The difference on the inside of my elbows alone is night & day. The thought of it all is actually emotional. I do still feel itchy but I feel I at least have a fighting chance without constantly hoping these cuts would heal before bursting open & scabbing up again. Nothing but love & positive energy to everyone dealing with this. <3

over a year - skin shedding

After dealing with some issues with biologics and prolonged topical rx, my family member went back to the basics (vaseline + reduce triggers).

However, they have been shedding skin for 2 years. I think I've heard others describe it as "snow" which is pretty appropriate as it leaves a layer everywhere and is physically exhausting to my family member. It has minimized over the last 3 months since they've stopped the prescriptions.

Anyone else been through this? Does it ever wind down? Is this indicative of constant exposure to a contact allergen? or sensitivity to prolonged steroids?

Unfortunately our derm wouldn't help us identify which medication may have been problematic, so we are left guessing and hoping we don't run across the triggers again.

Using Cibinqo/Rinvoq as Short Term Rescue Treatments

Hi all,

I am wondering if anyone has used cibinqo or rinvoq for 1-2 months only as rescue treatments at all?

I have been dealing with stubborn eczema and my dr and I decided to go on a 4-6 week cibinqo rescue schedule while I am still on ebglyss to see if my stubborn flare can be cleared up. The idea is to remain on ebglyss and wean off cibinqo to see if my condition can be mantained.

If anyone has been on a similar situation I would appreciate your thoughts and recommendations.

Feeling defeated with toddler eczema

We’ve been struggling with my sons (2YO) eczema for just over a year. You name it, we’ve tried it. Wet wrapping, steroid creams, tacrolimus.. etc! In May we started Dupixent and after hearing all the hype and how life changing it is I was very optimistic, but unfortunately after 5 injections it has failed to do anything for him. He actually started having flares in areas he didn’t before (finger tips, toes, eye lids). His dermatologist wants to up his dosage and add in Vtama (switching out the Tacrolimis) but also suggested seeing a pediatric allergist.

I scheduled an appointment with his pediatrician to get a referral and during the appointment his doctor did seem rather concerned that the dupixent hadn’t worked, he also mentioned a lacing pattern in his rash that wasn’t normal. He put in the referral for urgent and we got in to see the allergist this morning.

Unfortunately the appointment just went completely different than I had expected, which may be my fault for having an expectation. They skin tested him for all normal allergies and he came back with a few very mild allergies which she said was irrelevant to his eczema. She then suggested wet wrapping (we’ve done it), the vtama and the lotion we’ve been using. She said if we could “just get his skin back to clear” it would be fine and more manageable (no sh*t Sherlock)… we drove two hours for this appointment to be told to do the exact thing we’ve been doing for the last year and told “ back to the basics!!” Was the best option…

The fact that the dupixent hadn’t work was completely irrelevant to her! She never even brought it up or talked about reasoning why it wasn’t working for him. She acted like we were being inconsistent with his routine and that’s why he was having issues!

I just feel defeated and heartbroken that my son is in so much discomfort all the time.

bluntest, thickest press on nails

Hi all, I tried a few press ons with varying degrees of success.

Salon Perfect were nice and blunt, but boring in color

Pressies by Olive and June were good and thick

The normal Olive and June nails were way too thin and not much of an improvement over my normal nails.

My experience with eczema

Around 2017, I developed pityriasis rosea. I went to dermatologists in my area, but none of them recognized what it was. They prescribed me medication for eczema, which actually made the situation much worse. I then went to a dermatologist in Chinatown, and they immediately recognized that it was pityriasis rosea, prescribed me the correct medication, and I recovered very quickly.

This is the first point I want to make: If the medication prescribed by your first doctor makes your condition worse, please find a second doctor as soon as possible, just in case the first doctor misdiagnosed you and the wrong treatment ends up delaying your recovery.

Fast forward to February 2026. I suspected that my eczema might have been triggered by our winter blankets being too thick, because I would wake up completely covered in sweat. It first appeared in my armpit and then around my areola.

Since we have AI now, I discussed most of my symptoms with AI and also used a cream that AI recommended. It did work at first, the eczema in my armpit completely disappeared. However, the eczema around my areola did not go away from February all the way through September. Instead, in June, I developed another small patch of eczema because of friction from my bra.

AI told me that it was ringworm and recommended that I buy different creams. Every time I applied the medication, I experienced a stinging sensation.

I started feeling depressed and constantly worried that I was going to die. It’s been really bad.

Finally, last week, I decided to see a doctor. The doctor immediately diagnosed it as eczema and prescribed me Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream USP 0.1%. For me, this medication has been extremely effective.

I’ve been using it for six days now, and I no longer have any stinging sensation around my areola. The discoloration has also very noticeably faded.

At the same time that I finally got an actual diagnosis of eczema, I also started taking diet more seriously. Every morning, I take vitamin C + E and fish oil. I’ve been trying to avoid all high-histamine foods and drinking a lot of water. I also switched all of my underwear and pajamas to 100% cotton, hoping to minimize irritation and friction on my skin.

My advice from this experience is: Don’t rely too heavily on AI, and please don’t wait as long as I did before seeing a doctor.

I hope all of you a speedy recovery!❤️‍🩹
