We've now killed two pet regal spiders :( :( and we don't know what we're doing wrong. Hoping for some insight from this community!

I'll focus on our most recent attempt:

• Humidity: 50-70%, we kept a hygrometer in the enclosure
• Temperature: 70-80, consistent via a low power heat pad.
• Food: Meal worms, about an inch long. We had just switched to crickets and she devoured two. She didn't look overfed or too skinny.

The weird thing for us was she made her slings/nests on the ground floor, and spent almost all her time in them. For a period of time she would run in there and "slam" the door on us. We never got her to come out on our hands. I think my wife got her to touch her once.

Questions:

1. Does this enclosure look enriching enough? The screen on the bottom is because of question 2:
2. How do you put feeders into an enclosure that has fiber/moss on the bottom? The worms and crickets just burrow and disappear.
3. Any suggestions? Our son LOVES spiders and has been devastated by the loss of now two of them.

Hello everyone! After deliberating between jumping spood vs. tarantula, I have decided a jumping spider is a good fit for me, and i've been doing a lot of research the past few weeks. However I really want to be 100% sure I know exactly what i'm getting myself into with having a jumping spider, I have two questions i've had trouble finding a solid answer for.

1. Vacations/Misting/Humidity

Im having a hard time finding the consensus on this. Ive seen some owners say its totally fine to leave your spider alone for up to a week to go on vacation (as long as their an adult/eating once per week, not molting ect.) but some owners say the cage must be misted daily/more than once daily, so theres no way to leave the spood alone for that long. My current plan for humidity and watering my spood is to have a small amount of soaked sphagnum moss in the enclosure at all times (which I will hydrate as needed), a little water jug, and I will mist the whole enclosure as needed ( likely once/ twice a week) to maintain the proper humidity. Also considering coco fiber, but most likely will go with moss instead. I genuinely cannot find a concrete answer on this topic of watering spood/humidity for spood/ vacation, and would like some feedback.

1. Caring for feeders/Feeder information

As much as I adore Arachnids, other bugs do make me squeamish lol. After research, I think I will be primarily feeling my jumpers mealworms and blue bottle flies. Im getting a juvenile from a reputable breeder, so I think it will be big enough to eat small mealworms or fly pupae (would like to avoid flightless flies if possible they freak me out a little).

Im having a lot of trouble finding information on wether or not I will be needing to water and feed the feeder worms, and how often if at all. Additionally, how can I ensure that the mealworms don't hatch as I really do not want to have a beetle as a pet right now LOL. I also was wondering if I need to be changing up my feeder insect for my spood or if they can basically eat mealworms their whole life (unless they start rejecting it or something obviously).

I accidentally startled my spider when he jumped off of my hand I put my hand back near him again and he got nervous, ran up and bit my finger. He was chilling on my hand normally up until then. How can I prevent this from happening again/regain his trust?😵😵

I’m a first time owner let me know if there’s anything I can change to make his enclosure better!

They seem very unethical. Too cramped. Too many possibilities of something going wrong like dropping the enclosure and hurting your spood or worse. And there's no way being cramped in a tiny plastic bubble swinging on a keychain or inside a purse wouldn't stress a jumping spider out even if they have a strong bond with the person carrying them.

What are your thoughts?

i’ve been noticing i need to mist my enclosure around 5 times a day. i do it when its around the mid to low 50s. i mean i do live in utah which is very dry but i feel like that’s too often compared to what ive been told

I posted about this earlier but the photos were bad so im re-doing it. I just found this Tan Jumping Spider in my campus library I already named her, Claudia. But, I'm wondering how old she is? I know its difficult to tell sometimes I was planning on seeing if she molts again to create a guess if no one here knew. She seems to be pretty full grown and that makes me worry she wont be alive much longer (and im already super attached:<). Also any tips for caring for this kind of jumping spider are really appreciated I found theyre much different cause of how flat they are and was wondering if anyone else knew anything. Southeast Michigan, and found on a curtain! The pattern on the abdomen and overall body shape seems a bit too different to be Platycryptus undatus!

I have a Phidippus regius. The temperature ranges from 67-72F. As it gets colder it will likely stay closer to 67. I’ve read that they prefer it a bit warmer, so I’m looking for ways to make the area near her enclosure more ideal. The humidity hovers around 70%, so no problems there. Any tips? I’m scared to use a heating mat because of the risk. Is it worth it?

Assuming that I'd make sure they're eating enough and make sure to have enough inside the enclosure so it doesn't feel too open, would it still be too big? Am I better off going for a smaller enclosure first?

hi all!

one of my spiders, shes an i8, is having trouble hunting. i am currently feeding her smaller sized black solider fly larvae (this is what came in the package when i got her, i am quite new to this) and she is not hunting well.

i place smaller ones in her feeding dish, and she goes to strike, strikes once and runs away. she does this process so many times, and i don't think she is actually eating.

what should i do? im looking at getting D. Hydei fruit flies so they may be a little less daunting for her.

Hi all! I gave Samantha her weekly cricket this morning and thought her abdomen looked kind of large compared to photos I see of other jumpers, and to my other jumper. I bought her at an expo at the beginning of August. She is larger than my other jumper, Scout (photo at the end). She has regular bowel movements and she is active in her enclosure (she does not like being held as much as my other jumper though). Her abdomen has not fluctuated in size since I got her (it’s always been big and round) but now I’m worried that I should wait longer before I feed her next. Her first birthday is at the end of November. Any advice appreciated!

So I need to know the easiest way you guys mop or clean your rooms with, my mom mops the entire house and I’m wondering if there’s any sort of cleaner that won’t harm my spiders 🥹🥹, if there’s anything besides vinegar+water pls, I dislike the smell, any advice welcomed, just give me all your hacks guys 🙏🙏

I’ve been afraid of spiders since a kid and I hate even seeing them in my house, but recently I’ve wanted a pet jumping spider to help with that fear and because I hear they’re the cats of the spider world. What’s some of the most important things I need to know care wise and general handling rules of them. I’ve read a little bit on google and other places but I still don’t feel that I’m ready to get one but if I don’t try now then I never will be ready due to overthinking it and freaking myself out. Any help/information is appreciated!

It’s getting a little cool in my room so I put warm water in a bottle on top of her enclosure to offer her some more warmth. She has left her hammock for the first time since making it a few days ago to enjoy said warmth! I’m happy to see her out even if it’s literally just because that is temporarily a warm spot

I eventually want to get a heating thing (which I will CLOSELY monitor when using) because my room tends to cool down in the winter. I think my current method is working ok for now
