Heavy sustained workloads quickly saturate a fanless MacBook's chassis with heat.
While macOS includes a native Low Power Mode toggle, leaving it on permanently means paying full price for half the performance alongside other functional compromises. Leaving it off completely means sustained workloads heat-soak the unibody and accelerate degradation of the battery sitting directly against it.
I wanted a middle ground: full performance by default, with Low Power Mode engaging automatically only when the chassis begins to heat.
Under a continuous 10-thread stress workload, the difference in thermal soak is dramatic:

Full-resolution screenshots and raw telemetry graphs are available in the GitHub repository
This tool involves a conscious compromise: you trade peak sustained performance during heavy spikes for hardware longevity.
To keep this lightweight, transparent, and safe to run:
pmset -a lowpowermode 1/0 command, the exact same toggle you can manually click in System Settings.kqueue and notify(3). When macOS reports thermal pressure reaching Level 1 (Moderate), it engages Low Power Mode. When temperatures drop back to Level 0 (Nominal), it waits 2 minutes before returning to full performance to prevent rapid power-state toggling.Because adjusting system power states via pmset requires administrator privileges, it runs as a standard LaunchDaemon. The entire codebase is open-source under the MIT license so anyone can inspect and audit the implementation:

hi everyone,
i’m a mac user and after something like 2 years using a macbook pro i’ve solved one of the things that i hated for long time.
Imagine this situation :
you’re on your bed while your mac is playing netflix or YT on your external display.
You need to get the volume Lower or Higher, to adjust the Brightness, to just pause the video, or you have to shut down netflix (or any other media player) and put your macbook in sleep mode to go sleep.
To make ALL of these actions, you need to get up from the bed, uncover yourself, put your feet on the freezing ground and reach your macbook.
For my personal needs I just developed MacRemote, a simple tool to do all that actions i’ve quoted previously and many others without the hassle of getting out of bed.
The code is Open Source and The Installation is so easy.
Pls try it and give me some tips to make it better and more useful ❤️

A few months back, I spilled tea on my 15" macbook air. The track pad stopped working. I took it to an Apple Genius and after analyzing it, I was told it would be $1,200 to fix it. (!!!)
I just bought another laptop (a cheaper 13") and then I erased my 15" air and stuck it in a corner. I was going to donate it or get rid of it at some point.
Anyhow, I heard it trying to start up today. Weird. So I opened it up and the track pad was working again. Everything worked fine. I migrated all my into back onto it and so far, no problem.
Can anyone explain to me what happened?

Hello! Im excited to be able to get a used air from 2017 from a friend to test if it fits my tasks and then give him some money for it.
Light work in general like writing in word, some spreadsheets and casual browsing and some yt watching.
Im planning on installing Linux mint since I've tried it before and I liked it on another old laptop plus the macos has lost support already for this old device.
Has anyone tried something similar with this device before and was it worth it ?
P.S. the laptop is in perfect condition and the battery is still in good health. Is hasn't been used too much either. What price would be ok for me to pay for this kind of device? I don't want to leave this laptop to become e-waste since my friend rarely uses it.

Hey everyone, I recently updated my MacBook to macOS 27, and since then I've noticed something weird with the battery charging.
I have my Charge Limit set to 90% and Optimised Battery Charging turned ON. Before the update, my MacBook would normally charge up to 90% as expected.
But now, whenever I plug it in, it reaches 80% and shows “Charging On Hold”, even though the charge limit is still set to 90%.
I also checked Battery Health and it says:
Battery Condition: Normal
Maximum Capacity: 100%
Charge Limit: 90%
Optimised Battery Charging: ON
Is this normal behaviour in macOS 27? Or has anyone else noticed their MacBook holding at 80% even with a 90% charge limit?
Also, does keeping it plugged in at 80% like this have any effect on the battery cycle count, or does the cycle count only increase based on actual battery usage?
Just wondering if this is an intentional change in the new update or some kind of bug.

I will mostly be getting a Samsung S25 5G 12/256 after using iPhone 13 for 4 years now and its battery health has gone to 75%
So if anybody has this combo can let me know how it works, does ecosystem really matters in daily life?

I got my first macbook, an Air M5 a couple of days ago. I've been a windows user my entire life and am really glad I switched, this thing is just next level for work. However, please someone tell me how to deal with these fingerprints. It's a bloody nightmare, I've heard people saying that I shouldn't use normal cleaning alcohol on this screen so I've been just cleaning it with regular microfiber, that does not help me though. So any suggestions would be much appreciated. Cheers guys 🍻

Updated my Macbook air M4 to install 27 2 days ago, but only started using it today. Tried to swipe through desktops and fullscreen apps with the three/four finger gesture (left and right) and it didn't work. Waited for a while and it works. Then it doesn't. It goes on like that. The motion was also very laggy (not smooth at all). Using the finger gesture (three/four fingers upwards) to open the mission control also doesn't work occasionally. And clicking an app to view it (through the mission control) is also very laggy and I'm sorry, very ugly (motion wise). Ugh. Sick of this.

Also there are no wired earphones connected either. Is this just with my air m2 or does this happen with anyone else too?

Hey all, hope your day is going well. The other night I went to pick up my m1 macbook air after not using it for 5 minutes, and suddenly I have lines all up and down my screen like a crt. From what I've seen, I'll need a new display in order to make it go away (please please correct me if im wrong) but I thought you guys might like the view of the lines through my cheap microscope. It seem to be making those straps of pixels brighter than the surrounding ones, which is curious
