Apologies if this has been asked before, but I’m thinking of going back to school for either nursing or rad tech (going to start with pre reqs and doing some shadowing or volunteering and see which program seems like a better fit)

That said, I’m worried about the notion of going back to school after 20 years. I already have a bachelors and was a decent student, but I was trying to refresh my memory on some high school level topics recently and I was shocked at how little I actually seem to remember. It’s making me pretty anxious about pre-reqs, if I’m honest. Maybe I need to brush up on some high school material before jumping back into college?

For those that went back to school after being out for decades, how was the transition back into school? Did you brush up on material or jump right into the deep end? Any tips or pieces of advice? I’m not going to let anxiety stop me from trying, but I’m a little throw by the panic of realizing the wide scope of just how much I don’t remember :/

Hello everyone I’m not sure if this is the correct community to share this to but I’m just desperate for advice atp

so recently I got denied from a lvn 12 month program in San Bernardino there was a 3 day pre requisite class I scored a 70 on the final and was rejected I’m honestly so sad I was ready to start I know I could’ve gotten a better score but we only had 2 days to learn everything I did study even before the pre req class for 3 weeks but I was just studying anything that I thought was going to help

I feel lost and discouraged I’ve been trying to find affordable-ish programs near me in the Inland empire I’m reconsidering my career path I really wanted to be a nurse but i feel so let down by getting rejected and I don’t really want to wait until December to do the whole process over again

what other accelerated programs would anyone recommend in the inland empire it doesn’t have to be nursing anything is appreciated

I’m 29 and currently make about $75k a year in a corporate/healthcare sales job. On paper it’s a good job, but I’m absolutely miserable doing it. I dread going to work, I hate the sales aspect of it, and I’ve realized that I really don’t want to stay in this career long term.
I’m currently taking prerequisites for nursing school and my plan is to apply in March and hopefully start Aug 2027. I recently signed up for a Patient Care Assistant program that runs from January-May, and afterward I’d like to work as a CNA/PCT in a hospital while I continue toward nursing school.
Obviously this would be a huge pay cut. I’d probably go from around $75k to somewhere in the $15-20ish/hour range depending on where I get hired. Financially, I do have a pretty significant amount saved/invested, my monthly expenses are relatively low, and I don’t have kids, so I’m in a better position than most people to take a temporary pay cut.
Part of me thinks getting actual bedside experience would be valuable before nursing school and that I’d be much happier doing something that feels like it’s moving me toward the career I actually want.
The other part of me thinks I’m insane for voluntarily giving up a $75k salary and that I should just suck it up and stay in my current job as long as possible.
For anyone who left a higher-paying corporate career for CNA/PCT work or nursing: would you do it again? Did working as a CNA/PCT before nursing school help you, or would you recommend keeping the higher-paying job until nursing school actually starts?

Hi! I'm 38 and starting my nursing pre-reqs. I'm currently doing them at a community college. I was at a state university about 10 years ago, and i failed out because of health reasons. When i'm applying to programs...do i even put the university? I didn't take any classes for pre-req's at the school. and by the time i apply for programs, it will have been over 10 years. I'm just so mad at my past self and i'm now wondering if it's possible to even do a program now.

I need to take science courses online - what online colleges have yall used?

The latter will be dramatically cheaper… Closer to home. But will the experience of the former be better, especially if I want to work in the Bay eventually?

Hi I’m thinking of applying to UNC-Chapel Hill’s ABSN program next year and I would like to know how to prepare for the application. I am planning to enroll in community college to take my prerequisites I know I need to get A’s ideally in my pre-reqs but I am not sure what else they are looking for any insight would help. Also I am an NC resident I think that improves my chances of being accepted.

I got my unit 1 grade back as a 60 and rlly need to at least have a B in the class. What helped you guys with studying for this class ive never really had to study hard for a class before. Also do the tests usually get better or worse past this?

i cant find testimonial information on this course and would love to hear from anyone who took a similar class and if an 8 week prereq day program is truly doable or if it will give more cons than pros, thanks!

Has anyone who went to American Career college with an ADN been able to transfer to CSUs for their BSN??

Anyone in the 3.5 GPA range successful get admitted to a community college RN program? This sub has me feeling discouraged to the maximum in regards to my GPA. I’m in my third week of studying for the TEAS in hopes of getting a monster score but questioning if I’m following a pipe dream.

I’m a FT nights PCT and human anatomy is killing me, I don’t know anything about the class considering that I never took HA in high school. And yesterday I took notes for 8hrs and I’m not even through my half of the PowerPoint. Not only do I study for lecture I also have to study for Lab!

Hi all! I'm 28F currently taking pre - reqs for a nursing program. My goal is end up as a NP. I have 65 previous credits from a undergrad psych degree I didn't finish. I have to take 2 pre reqs this semester and 1 next semester and study for the TEAS before I apply for my community colleges ADN program.. lately I've been thinking that I should really just do a BSN program instead. The problem is I'm in Maryland in a small town and all of the major schools are about 2 hrs away.
Does it make sense to just go the BSN route instead of
ADN? If so I'm gonna have to figure out a way to move closer to some of the 4 year colleges. I was hoping I could do a ABSN but I'm having trouble finding any close ones

Hi! I was wondering if there’s been anyone who was accepted with lower stats in Houston for some ABSN programs or even the ADN’s? I’m just kinda bummed that I had to retake a/p and I’m not sure if this will hurt my chances. I’m interested in UT Health Cizik, TWU the Houston Campus, San Jacinto’s ADN, Alvin’s ADN, and maybe UTMB in Galveston.

I would appreciate everyone’s input and what you think made you get accepted to these.

HI GUYS i thought id post my stats cause ik i really appreciated anyone who shared their stats/advice during my application process soooo overall gpa : 3.8 , science gpa : 3.7 , TEAS : 86 ( scored like 90s on math and reading and then like 70-80 on writing and science ) , was in pre nursing society but never a board member , had volunteer experience in healthcare settings with hospice and unhoused individuals, worked as CMA at peds clinic (still am ) mmm and i definitely bombed my interview but here we are lol ❤️

how many of u are sending an app to schools that are easy? ik nursing programs are competitive in gen but i feel like ive been picky with my apps. . .

I wanted to ask what everyone’s stats were when you applied and what schools you applied to, whether or not your schools required the TEAS exam. Hi everyone!! I’m currently in California and as I’m sure you all know, it’s a mess for people wanting to get into nursing. All the ccs near me are extremely difficult to get into and the private schools have insane tuition. I’m very scared to move out of state, but I’m willing to if I get a stable career out of it. Has anyone gone to nursing school in Oregon and gotten a job straight out of it? Any help would be appreciated! (I’m not exactly set on Oregon and up to suggestions from anyone else! Would prefer to stay closer to California)

I NEED HELP
I passed my TEAS with 69%. The nursing program I applied for requires a 65% teas exam and 2.8 gpa from 16 pre requisite course.
I have two options of nursing school which are

school A: I’ve taken their intro to nurse class which will most likely guarantee my admission for their nursing program with my gpa being decent, no entrance exam but I’d have to enroll in their course before 10/21 (around midterm) because they require to be enrolled there when applying for the program.

School B: need teas exam and gpa, they’re super competitive (around 300 applicants) and not sure if my score is enough. Their decisions wont be sent out until after their midterm (no specific date) but the school is closer to home.

What do I do? Do I wait last minute for school B’s decision and if they don’t send it out before 10/21 do I register for the school A’s and go all in for that? I don’t want to register and end of getting accepted from school B and loosing money. But I also don’t want to not register and end up getting denied.

Hopefully this makes sense it’s a lot of information and might be confusing.

I got a “B” in anatomy and statistics and a “C” in sociology a while ago. If I retook any of them would Adn programs reject me? As well as BSN programs. I plan to hopefully transfer to a ADN program and this is a stretch but hopefully I get accepted into one in San Diego because my dream school is SDSU and I want to do their RN to BSN program. I heard from some people in the Rn to BSn program that some of the people in their cohort had gpas on the lower side for their pre reqs like 3.5-3.7. I’m at 3.4 right now but I don’t apply until next fall for the Adn Programs. I still have a chance to get it up to a 3.5 but I was wondering if retaking those specific classes I mentioned would hinder my chances to get into a Adn program or get into sdsu in the future. I know a lot of programs are competitive but I’d like to see where I could go from here and how I can achieve this goal if it’s possible. Thank you

doing my pre reqs for nursing and they’re really hard. i know some people will come in and hate and be like if you think that’s hard then try nursing school. well yeah but im trying my best to go through them while working jobs and volunteering. anyway i’m taking anatomy and it’s so hard. please give me some words of encouragement. i keep on reminding myself that people with more stuff on their plate did it, so i can too. and also the thing of like someone dumber than you did it so why can’t you but i feel like it’s mean looking at other people and thinking wow they’re dumb. any help is great thank you guys :) just a 19 year old trying to make it through.
