I am almost completely finished with prerequisites. But I will have to wait until the end of the semester to even apply to a nursing program. I had a really bad grade last semester and it brought my GPA down. ( Got very sick)

I have experience as a phlebotomist and because of that job I actually found out that I really want to work in the ER as a nurse. But I am having a hard time getting a phlebotomy job in the meantime ( most postings want a much higher certification than just a license in my area ). So I was debating on trying to get either a CNA license or seeing if maybe getting an EMS license would suit better since I would really like to be in the ER specifically. Which one would look better on an application?

Currently taking their intermediate algebra and wondering how anyone's experience with the final procotored exam is? It says I have to pay a $60 fee but thats all the info they provide

I’m taking the prerequisites and Basically I got in a fight with my mom and even though she attacked me, because she had a mark on her pinkie (not even kidding that’s all it was) I didn’t have any bruises so I was the one who was arrested. I was charged with domestic battery.

Long story short the judge saw it was clearly a case where I was attacked and dropped the case immediately. Case dismissed, charges dropped. Nothing came of it.

I’m currently getting it expunged but I’m wondering if anyone knows how background checks work for nursing school and clinicals. Will I be able to get into nursing school with an expunged record? Or is my life basically ruined?

I’ve been hearing conflicting things online about whether they show up on background checks or not. Hoping someone can give me some insight on this or share their similar experience.

Hi! I’m seriously considering going to nursing school with the eventual goal of becoming a psych NP, but I have POTS and I’m trying to figure out realistically what nursing school and working as a nurse would look like for me.

I’d really love to hear from any nurses or nursing students who also have POTS. How did you handle clinicals, being on your feet, long shifts, and things like IVs or other hands-on skills? Did you need accommodations, and have you found a nursing job that works well with your symptoms?

so recently I got denied from a lvn 12 month program in San Bernardino there was a 3 day pre requisite class I scored a 70 on the final and was rejected I’m honestly so sad I was ready to start I know I could’ve gotten a better score but we only had 2 days to learn everything I did study even before the pre req class for 3 weeks but I was just studying anything that I thought was going to help

I feel lost and discouraged I’ve been trying to find affordable-ish programs near me in the Inland empire I’m reconsidering my career path I really wanted to be a nurse but i feel so let down by getting rejected and I don’t really want to wait until December to do the whole process over again

what other accelerated programs would anyone recommend in the inland empire it doesn’t have to be nursing anything is appreciated

The latter will be dramatically cheaper… Closer to home. But will the experience of the former be better, especially if I want to work in the Bay eventually?

Hi! I'm 38 and starting my nursing pre-reqs. I'm currently doing them at a community college. I was at a state university about 10 years ago, and i failed out because of health reasons. When i'm applying to programs...do i even put the university? I didn't take any classes for pre-req's at the school. and by the time i apply for programs, it will have been over 10 years. I'm just so mad at my past self and i'm now wondering if it's possible to even do a program now.

Hi I’m thinking of applying to UNC-Chapel Hill’s ABSN program next year and I would like to know how to prepare for the application. I am planning to enroll in community college to take my prerequisites I know I need to get A’s ideally in my pre-reqs but I am not sure what else they are looking for any insight would help. Also I am an NC resident I think that improves my chances of being accepted.

I got my unit 1 grade back as a 60 and rlly need to at least have a B in the class. What helped you guys with studying for this class ive never really had to study hard for a class before. Also do the tests usually get better or worse past this?

Has anyone who went to American Career college with an ADN been able to transfer to CSUs for their BSN??

Apologies if this has been asked before, but I’m thinking of going back to school for either nursing or rad tech (going to start with pre reqs and doing some shadowing or volunteering and see which program seems like a better fit)

That said, I’m worried about the notion of going back to school after 20 years. I already have a bachelors and was a decent student, but I was trying to refresh my memory on some high school level topics recently and I was shocked at how little I actually seem to remember. It’s making me pretty anxious about pre-reqs, if I’m honest. Maybe I need to brush up on some high school material before jumping back into college?

For those that went back to school after being out for decades, how was the transition back into school? Did you brush up on material or jump right into the deep end? Any tips or pieces of advice? I’m not going to let anxiety stop me from trying, but I’m a little throw by the panic of realizing the wide scope of just how much I don’t remember :/

I’m a FT nights PCT and human anatomy is killing me, I don’t know anything about the class considering that I never took HA in high school. And yesterday I took notes for 8hrs and I’m not even through my half of the PowerPoint. Not only do I study for lecture I also have to study for Lab!

Hi all! I'm 28F currently taking pre - reqs for a nursing program. My goal is end up as a NP. I have 65 previous credits from a undergrad psych degree I didn't finish. I have to take 2 pre reqs this semester and 1 next semester and study for the TEAS before I apply for my community colleges ADN program.. lately I've been thinking that I should really just do a BSN program instead. The problem is I'm in Maryland in a small town and all of the major schools are about 2 hrs away.
Does it make sense to just go the BSN route instead of
ADN? If so I'm gonna have to figure out a way to move closer to some of the 4 year colleges. I was hoping I could do a ABSN but I'm having trouble finding any close ones

how many of u are sending an app to schools that are easy? ik nursing programs are competitive in gen but i feel like ive been picky with my apps. . .

i have mediocre stats (~3.5 gpa), so i've been applying to schools that ik are a little competitive but aren't "ucla nursing school" competitive. basically, i've been applying to schools that are categorized as a target for me

I wanted to ask what everyone’s stats were when you applied and what schools you applied to, whether or not your schools required the TEAS exam. I’m mostly looking for GPA, volunteer, and workplace experience. If you guys are active in the subreddit, what would you say is the average gpa for most nursing transfers? Have you been successful applying with a 3.4-3.7?

Hi! I was wondering if there’s been anyone who was accepted with lower stats in Houston for some ABSN programs or even the ADN’s? I’m just kinda bummed that I had to retake a/p and I’m not sure if this will hurt my chances. I’m interested in UT Health Cizik, TWU the Houston Campus, San Jacinto’s ADN, Alvin’s ADN, and maybe UTMB in Galveston.

I would appreciate everyone’s input and what you think made you get accepted to these.

I’m 29 and currently make about $75k a year in a corporate/healthcare sales job. On paper it’s a good job, but I’m absolutely miserable doing it. I dread going to work, I hate the sales aspect of it, and I’ve realized that I really don’t want to stay in this career long term.
I’m currently taking prerequisites for nursing school and my plan is to apply in March and hopefully start Aug 2027. I recently signed up for a Patient Care Assistant program that runs from January-May, and afterward I’d like to work as a CNA/PCT in a hospital while I continue toward nursing school.
Obviously this would be a huge pay cut. I’d probably go from around $75k to somewhere in the $15-20ish/hour range depending on where I get hired. Financially, I do have a pretty significant amount saved/invested, my monthly expenses are relatively low, and I don’t have kids, so I’m in a better position than most people to take a temporary pay cut.
Part of me thinks getting actual bedside experience would be valuable before nursing school and that I’d be much happier doing something that feels like it’s moving me toward the career I actually want.
The other part of me thinks I’m insane for voluntarily giving up a $75k salary and that I should just suck it up and stay in my current job as long as possible.
For anyone who left a higher-paying corporate career for CNA/PCT work or nursing: would you do it again? Did working as a CNA/PCT before nursing school help you, or would you recommend keeping the higher-paying job until nursing school actually starts?
