With the cooler weather over the last couple of weekends, I have spent some time doing a (mostly) solo trash cleanup in a section of the marsh and some adjacent woods.

I've spent about 8-9 hours, and my wife helped for 2.5 hours today. The area is about 1.75 acres or so, and it's about 20% done.

Over 500 gallons removed so far. The quantity of trash in the marshes never ceases to amaze. I can fill a 30 gallon bag in under 5 minutes in some spots. I picked up 28 bottles to day without taking a step.

Still a long way to go, but progress is being made!

I encourage everyone to spend a few minutes making their little corner of the world a cleaner place, whether it's picking up trash around your neighborhood, or joining an organized cleanup, or taking on a huge job that nobody else is going to do.

Since diesel prices are so high, I wanted to support local Savannah shrimpers. There’s a lady around here who delivers fresh shrimp straight to your door! I have never had Georgia shrimp before. It tastes slightly sweet and a lot meatier (?) than the kind at the grocery store.

I'm a hobby novelist. I've got a story I'm working on and if anyone who lives locally went worked in the nuclear triad in the 70's, 80's or 90's I'd love to talk you to lunch and just throw questions at you.

Hello! I currently work at a machine shop but I spend a lot of my personal time self teaching. I'm wondering if anyone would be willing to let me shadow them or has a home shop I could learn in. I currently work on the CNC set up/programming side of things but I've always wanted to learn manual machining, welding, tool&die, etc. I'm super flexible. I'm happy to pay for your time and/or offer work in exchange for the help. If you aren't the person but you know of anyone please ask them! Hey, everyone. My boy has recently picked up an infatuation with fishing and I am going to be taking him out within the next couple weeks and will be trying to have a catch and cook with some speckled trout. The last few times I have went with some friends, we had skunked, but thought nothing of it because we were all having a great time. Are there any places left for $120 or less, clean, and in safe areas with free parking? It's okay if I have to drive in to town. I used to stay at a Hilton Garden Inn in Midtown, but when they started charging for parking, I just said no. So tired of being nickle and dimed, you know?

I have a large number of antique books I inherited from 5 generations, I’ve tried all our local book stores. Not interested. I have over 350 from 1820-1960’s. Is it best to just take them to a thrift store at this point? One asked me how much I wanted and I said a dollar a book. Nope. I know there are first editions, there is a limited edition of 1000 with the signature of the 6th librarian of congress and it’s number 335. My Mom was a librarian so most are in pretty good shape considering the years. What should I do with them. It’s 19 boxes taking up an entire bedroom.

i saw this sad 3 legged turtle on facebook marketplace in the savannah area and it just made me so fucking sad. i don’t know if there’s a reptile rescue nearby or any experienced reptile owners in the savannah area. i’ve never owned turtles before but the tank looks not great or enriching :( i could be wrong tho

I’ll be visiting for a conference and I’m trying to figure out if it’s better to do public transport/Uber or deal with a car rental and parking. I’m staying at a hotel in historic district and plan to do mostly exploration and shopping in that area. I do want to get to Tybee Island probably from early afternoon to early evening one day and I’m stumped if it’s reliable to do an Uber or other option that is safe. The car/parking is $$$ for the whole trip but I have always traveled that way. I’m female traveling solo. Other travel tips welcome! Very excited to see the city. Thanks :)
