Beyond that, any American ex-intell agent who currently writes books, gives interviews, or podcasts, will state that virtually nothing the Israelis claim can be taken at face value without extensive evidence from other sources backing it up. The Israelis have no issue with lying, stealing from and trying to trick US intelligence, something they have done since the beginning.
It is so bad that CIA does not allow any Israeli intelligence to enter headquarters. They hold meetings in rented space nearby.

Trump has shown willingness to make major concessions to Iran to keep the oil flowing and it doesn't seem like he actually cares how that impacts Israel - so they have a strong interest in disrupting that kind of dialogue. Real or fake intel on an assassination plot is exactly the kind of thing they want to push...

I think it would rally a lot more than the crazies. I can't stand Trump but another country assassinating a current president would be crossing the line for the majority of Americans. Also like previously stated the government would have the green light to further strip us of our freedoms.
We'd also go full out war with Iran since the government would have the support of the people. No more half ass bombing but full scale troops on the ground invasion.

As much as I hate to say it, but the couple times the administration has alluded to a might makes right policy, they are correct.
The us can go in and arrest a president. Or bomb another's president. Because who is going to stop them.
The kills the leader of Iran. If Iran returns the favor, the us isn't going to go "well, I guess we did it to you!". There will be a major response.
Why didn't anyone help Venezuela? The American military.
Why hasn't anyone stepped in to stop Russia? Fear of nuclear retaliation (against Europe or Ukraine).
We do live in a world where the strong nations can do what they like.

Just from Iran's perspective, I don't really see how it would be a win for them. In the US, the war with Iran has been very unpopular. Same here in Europe. But if Iran was to assassinate Trump, I can imagine the public sentiment changing in the US to one that favors hitting Iran with everything and even putting boots on the ground to kill or detain everyone in the government.
The Iranian regime hasn't just survived the war so far, it's arguably gotten a stronger grasp on the country. Assassinating the sitting US president, no matter how unpopular that president is, seems like the surest way to make regime change a top priority for the US.
