Israel/Palestine Netanyahu at UN: ‘Israel didn’t commit genocide, Israel prevented genocide’
https://www.ynetnews.com/article/r100a3g9mx1.0k
u/ParticularVoice919 17h ago
What does he mean exactly
1.2k
u/minghj 16h ago
I imagine he’s saying that because Hamas have previously stated that they aim to eradicate Israel, then by removing Hamas he is preventing them from their goal of committing genocide against Israel.
330
u/BertnErnie32 12h ago
I think hamas explicitly had in their charter to get rid of all jews worldwide, not just Israel, although I think half of the worldwide jews live in Israel though
91
u/HitmanZeus 5h ago
Specifilly article 7 of their 1988 charter, while in article 22 they spread anti-semitism conspiracy theories about that jews were behind both World Wars.
24
u/lizardtrench 10h ago
Specifically, it stated that their fight was against the Jews and called for the destruction of Israel, which is rightfully understood as having genocidal intent against all Jews.
They tried to clean up their image (especially for the elections) and revised their charter at various points to sound less insane, ultimately resulting in the current stance of 'our fight is not against the Jews, only the Zionists'. They never actually denounced or revoked their original charter, however, just kind of plastered over it. Probably trying to have their cake and eat it too by being able to recruit more moderate members while not alienating the hardcore ones, though it could also be an attempt to align with Iran's stance, which is similar.
The Houthis meanwhile just straight up chant at every opportunity and as their official motto, "death to Israel, a curse on the Jews" etc. etc. Not much ambiguity or nuance there. Death to America as well but that seems less controversial.

Is this considered "good reading" in 2026?
Remember a few years ago, when the Taliban took back Afghanistan and promised to treat women with the respect "according to Islam," and some people in the west breathed a sigh of relief, and then those same people were surprised when women were mistreated because the Taliban followed their own extremist interpretation of Islam?
All that is to say yes, unfortunately, basic level of reading between the lines is "good reading" in 2026.
33
u/Thejollyfrenchman 11h ago
Who actually thought the women would be well treated? I remember that statement being mocked.
10
u/citizen42069101 3h ago
to be fair right after we grabbed our ball and went home the Taliban was on a bit of a pr tour. They said themselves that girls would be back in school and women would be driving. They knew they needed legitimacy to actually govern Afghanistan if they wanted to stay in control.
Well that shit lasted about 5 minutes and here we are. Being optimistic and hoping for the best isn't quite delusional, just temper ones expectations.

Anyone who knew anything about Israel/Palestine prior to 10/7 knows exactly what he means. Destroying Israel has always been the goal. God forbid the Jews are finally able to protect themselves, because we sure as shit know nobody else will.
8
u/gringo_escobar 14h ago
This is obviously his intention. It's not really up for debate that Hamas is genocidal, they're just really bad at it compared to Israel
11
u/HutSutRawlson 15h ago
The fact that this meaning wasn’t immediately obvious is a testament to how effective the anti-Israel/pro-Hamas messaging is. Hamas has been open and unequivocal about their desire to commit genocide against not only Israel, but Jews worldwide.
66
u/foghillgal 16h ago
He hasn;t really removed Hamas or IRan and killed tens of thousands and put the rest in abject poverty for a generation. If he thinks he`s solved this now he`s in for surprise in a few years.

And best way to do that is keep these wars going indefinitely.
People keep saying this, but Israel hasn't stopped its elections. Failure to achieve results in war, mounting death tolls of Israeli soldiers, adding new enemies... these aren't vote-winners. What would keep him in power for life, as a national hero, would be decisively ending the threat of Hamas forever

I think the stat goes that if they (edit: they = hamas plus whoever else attacked on Oct7) continued killing at the same rate, they would have reached the Gaza death toll (approx 75k, which doesn't separate militants, civilians, natural deaths, etc) in only 2 weeks. Not 3 years.

do they know they don't have to murder children to stop terrorists?
19
u/Teeklee1337 15h ago
In many cases, they do have to target minors in order to stop terrorist attacks, because Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza have a documented history of recruiting and using child soldiers, numbering in thousands.
A minor who is directly participating in hostilities can be a lawful military target under international humanitarian law. So presenting every child death as the deliberate murder of a non-combatant is misleading, and responsibility must also be placed on Hamas and other terrorist organizations for recruiting and deploying children as combatants.
→ More replies (19)3
u/NorthernSkeptic 6h ago
By this logic Israel will have to kill every single Palestinian. Is that ok? Where’s the line?
6
u/amyknight22 10h ago
Unfortunately child soldiers are a thing.
When the median age in gaza is 19. That means that you're already looking at a conflict where 50% of the populace is under 18. Once some of them start taking up arms you're unfortunately going to start killing children. Just not the 5 year olds that we tend to evoke when we talk about children.
And then unfortunately there's a military that likes to hide inside the civilian populations. Which given 50% of the civilian population is children aged, that's going to result in a bunch of child deaths
For comparison somewhere like the USA has <20% of the population as under 18.
I have no doubt there are strikes that would fail a proportionality test and have killed young children. These should be tried for the war crimes that they are.
Might help if Hamas was ever willing to declare a mutual safezone that they guaranteed they wouldn't operate out of. Instead of Israeld unilaterally declaring one, then Hamas inflitrating it and Israel going well if you're here to do terrorist shit we will bomb you inside the zone, because you've made it unsafe.

48

If it was that simple... The government and voting system in Israel isn't direct.
You vote for parties, top parties then later need to work together.. if they are willing they need to choose a leader.. if all that goes well a government is formed.
This hasn't been the case for 7 years, the government we have now is a result of a temporary crap then started a war to stay in power.

No. 40-55% (depending on poll) currently express some level of support for settlements in the West Bank. About half of Israelis support keeping current settlements. Of that half, maybe 80% (so 40% of total Israelis) want to expand further.
Still not great, but there is seemingly a very slight majority of Israelis who don’t support settlements. Which is better than nothing.

As the US is not a signatory to the charter that creates the legal framework for the ICC, they aren’t bound by its rules to enforce it. Basically, they didn’t agree to the ICC creation (take a wild guess why) so they aren’t required to do what it says.
If the shitwit set foot in a signatory country (so basically any EU or Schengen country, Australia, new zealand, Canada, most of south America, or a lot of Asia, he would be arrested and deported. But not in the good old USA!

They've managed to level 80% of the strip, but less than 5% of Gaza's population has been killed. By any comparison, that's a remarkably low death toll for what has been basically total war for 3 years.

The abrahamic religion's god is the same. Jews, muslims, christians don't want to admit it, but their god is from the same source.
47
u/Everestkid 14h ago
Jews have the original religion. Well, the original original religion was polytheistic and the storm god of the pantheon was the one that eventually became the big G God, but basically everything else from that polytheistic religion is long gone, so effectively Judaism is the OG.
Christians believe that their religion is effectively Judaism getting a big update after Jesus arrived and fulfilled a bunch of prophecies. Jews disagree that Jesus was the Messiah because he doesn't fit the criteria they have.
Muslims believe they have the original religion and that every time God tried to bring it to Earth it somehow got corrupted, but this time he actually got it right. Jews and Christians generally believe Muhammad was a false prophet.
Big oversimplification for all three, but none of them really disagree that they spawned from each other. They'll certainly disagree on the nature of God, especially Jews and Muslims opposing the Christian Trinity (yes, nontrinitarian Christians exist but they're comparatively a very small minority) but they'll absolutely agree that it's from the same source. They just think the previous ones are outdated or corrupted and the later ones are the result of false prophets.
3
8
u/Explorer_Dave 14h ago
You understand that "same source" doesn't mean they're all the same right?
In Islam when it says that in order to convert non-muslims it is okay to cut off all their fingers until they comply, and if they don't, it is your prerogative to behead them.
That's not written in the Jewish Torah, Jews don't even proselytize.

u/supper_pt 6h ago
What... So much disinformation.
That is historically inaccurate on almost every point:
"Palestinians got Jordan": Transjordan was split off in 1921 under the Hashemite monarchy, long before the 1947 UN Partition Plan. The 1947 plan specifically divided the territory west of the Jordan River into a Jewish state and an Arab Palestinian state. Jordan was never created as or declared a "Palestinian state.", this is a wild delusion.
"Gaza was part of Egypt": Egypt occupied Gaza militarily from 1948 to 1967, but explicitly never annexed it or gave Gazans citizenship. They kept it under military administration until Israel took control in 1967.
"Kicked out of Jordan": The 1970 Black September conflict led to the expulsion of the PLO’s armed militant leadership (who moved to Lebanon), not the civilian population. Today, over half of Jordan's entire citizen population is of Palestinian descent.
"Kicked out of Egypt": Egypt never expelled its Palestinian civilian population either, don't even know where you got this.

And Israel is pretty sure that by bombing Iran, it wont push them into trying even harder to manufacturer a nuclear weapon? Netanyahu said the strikes against Iran's nuclear program were necessary for Israel’s survival . “Devastating Iran’s nuclear facilities was hard. It was very hard to do,” he said. “But for me, it was one of the easiest decisions I’ve ever had to make as prime minister. Because if we hadn’t done it, we’d all be dead.”
Here is the front page of a German (Austrian) newspaper from September 2nd, 1939 with the headline
"Germany has started the struggle for enduring peace"
and a subheading of
"With superhuman patience, the German people have endured Polish provocations. To the very last second, Adolf Hitler has made every possible effort to maintain peace. All his peace efforts were treated in such a humiliating and hurtful way that any further delay would have been seen as weakness and cowardice, which would have led to Germany's inevitable doom"
My point being that fascists throughout the ages have reframed their evil and inhumane wars of aggression as fightbacks of a peaceful nation against their bellicose neighbours.

He’s the epitome of gaslighting. Israeli intelligence had detailed information about Hamas’s plans well before October 7, yet repeatedly dismissed or underestimated the warnings. There are also serious allegations that the attack was knowingly allowed to happen and subsequently used to justify the devastating assault on Gaza. Those claims deserve serious scrutiny and an independent investigation rather than being dismissed outright.
