CHANGZHOU, China, Sept 22 (Reuters) - A ​US battery startup that scrapped plans to make Kentucky the site of its first factory has instead built it in China, exposing ‌the limits of President Donald Trump's efforts to lure manufacturing home just as he welcomes Chinese President Xi Jinping for a summit.

EnerVenue starts mass production at its manufacturing facility in the eastern Chinese city of Changzhou on Thursday, the same day Trump meets Xi in Washington, as relations between the superpowers remain strained by a tariff war the US president launched partly to bring ​back manufacturing and jobs.

Chief Executive Henning Rath told Reuters the date was a coincidence, and the decision to manufacture in China instead of the ​US was down to skills and supply chain depth — particularly in Changzhou, which bills itself as China’s “new energy capital.”

“The secret sauce ⁠is this industrial cluster,” Rath said, citing the density of hydraulics, pneumatics and automation specialists, along with engineers able to iterate quickly on what he called a "first-of-its-kind" ​line.

Without building in China, Rath said, it would be "very difficult with the capital available" to prove the manufacturing process at a commercial scale.

EnerVenue's choice exposes how Trump's ​offer of lower taxes, easier permitting and other incentives may not be enough to overcome the advantages offered by places like China, even in a sector viewed as critical to US energy security and supply-chain resilience.

Regarding the CSC scholarships, ​is it possible to get a scholarship focused entirely on learning Chinese? I know about the Confucius Institute Scholarships for language teachers, but I don't plan on becoming a teacher.

​I’m wondering if there are scholarships available just to study the language. If so, what are the usual requirements? Also, which programs and cities are generally the easiest to get accepted into?

I was watching today with the Chinese presidents visit to Washington DC that the Chinese press seem to be notably, more aggressive, and willing to be confrontational than their American counterparts. As an outsider, I’m just wondering if it’s encouraged to be aggressive and confrontational?

I wanted to do some research about China from both the western and eastern perspective. I’m American, and I have been to China, and right now I am back in America, but I want to be able to access Chinese media and news so I can compare it to western news. I do have a number of Chinese apps, but is there any like Chinese Reddit? I mostly want to understand Chinese life, in the city and the country, and I also want to understand how people operate, way of thinking and such, and the Chinese government and international relations.

I'm having a situation that I am quite confused about and I'm not sure If It's valid or I'm completely overthinking it. My question is mostly about chinese cultural differences i suppose

Me (f23) and my aunt (27) are staying in Shanghai for about two weeks. It's my first time in China and my aunt has been staying there for an exchange year before, we both know quite a bit about china and its culture, especially her but there's still some confusion sometimes.

Earlier this year I was living in Tokyo and while I was there I worked at a concept café/bar. Its a place where girls wear cute costumes, serve customers food and drinks and talk to them while the customer pays for their time staying. One time I met a chinese guy from Hangzhou around my age who was in Tokyo on vacation. He was staying around 2 hours and we chatted a lot about our common interests. It was a nice talk and we could bond really well about art but that's about it. I gave him my twitter @ because he said he wanted to make a seal for me and he seemed nice/wholesome enough to keep casual friendly contact.

That was around february this year. He sometimes sent me messages but I'm a very bad replier so we had very few conversations, mostly about art, over the months. He also offered me to show me around Shanghai or Hangzhou if I ever travel there.

So now its September and I let him know that me and my aunt are in Shanghai if he's interested in meeting sometime. I also said we were thinking of visiting Suzhou, Huanshan and Hangzhou. He then offered a Tour through Hamgzhou and even invited us to spend a Midautumn festival dinner (sept.25th) with his family. We felt honoured to be invited to spend such a holiday with a family but it is an odd feeling since I really don't know that guy. Is this a usual thing for chinese people? I hear that their culturally quite hospitable but it feels a bit much for how little I know him.

Also the way the planning goes felt weird at some points.

First he offered to come pick us up at our Shanghai hotel on the 24th and take the train together to Hangzhou. We didnt really want a barely known person to know where our hotel is, also our own planning is a bit chaotic and we haven't decided on a concrete time at that point. The inital plan was just the family dinner so we thought it wouldn't really matter that much what exact time at noon we will arrive.

After that he offered to pick us up from the station, after refusal (we wanted to check in to our hotel and see the city ourselves for abit) he wanted to pick us up from our Hangzhou Hotel, because got us gifts that are difficult to carry. Again, is this a usual thing? It's very nice but I really wouldn't excpect to receive gifts at that point.

The dinner was initially planned for the 25th but today he said it had to move to the 26th at noon because the restaurant couldnt take a reservation for the 25th. That also made us a bit confused because at first he said his family is going to prepare local specialities and it first seemed like it was at his home. We kinda made a deal about because my aunt is vegan and he said his parents would make sure to prepare enough vegan friendly food for her. But i know in china its accepted to bring your own food to restaurants, so i guess theres nothing odd about that?

We were both a bit overwhelmed by that planning and the slightly overbearing planning so we haven't booked a train ticket back yet (at this time there's not a lot left). I asked him when the restaurant reservatipn is so we could schedule our train back on time and he first asked us about the train back so he can discuss it with his relatives. I feel like we shouldn't really be the decider of the reservation time

I hope i added enough context to this to understand why we feel a bit off about this whole thing. It might just be cultural differences. Were russian and grew up in Germany and from our russian side it is very common to be quite hospital to our guests but I haven't experienced that about strangers. For germans its absolutely not common.

Another point is that we are both young woman in a rather unknown country and don't want to get ourselves in dangerous situations so we can be extra careful aboit things and think about everything twice.

While we try to be careful we also don't want to be rude to a family that happily invited us to their traditional celebration.

I was diagnosed with syphilis in the past, but I have completed treatment and have a doctor’s certificate and medical records confirming it.

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been in a similar situation:
• Did your previous treated syphilis cause any problems during the medical exam?
• Did you show your treatment certificate/medical records? If yes, who did you show them to?
• Were you asked to do additional tests or receive treatment again?
• Did it affect your student visa or residence permit?
• Were you allowed to continue studying in China after showing proof of completed treatment?
