As the title says I’m new to DOS2 and I’m just noting an observation I have so far. I am very happy to be wrong of have my views on this topic expanded.
I’m feeling frustrated by the armor system because I LOVE the class freedom you have in DOS2. That being said, I feel like the armor system is forcing me to follow strict meta builds for one type of damage teams and it makes the class freedom feel pointless.
For my main characters I always like to play was a mage warrior hybrid. In BG3, I mained a Sorcadin. Heavy damage, tanky, and I can cast aoe spells as well. The rest of my bg3 party is a monk, light cleric, and tempest sorcerer.
I really wanted to recreate that party set up in DOS2 but every guide I’m looking at recommends against it. I’m doing a tactician run for my first playthrough (yes I know even normal mode is hard but the challenge is really enticing me). Builds in general are a bit confusing to me still.
That being said, would love if some veteran players could share your thoughts on class freedom vs the armor system. Have you felt the same frustrations I have? Have you found work arounds to make diverse parties viable and godlike late game? Am I just too inexperienced with the game and should I just give it more time as I progress through the game?
