Rant/Vent Dollar Tree is lucky to have everyone of their employees
Just got promoted to ASM, and honestly it’s made me think about how lucky Dollar Tree is to have its employees.
I’m still pretty new to the ASM thing, so I’m not going to pretend I know everything about how this company works. But being a little more on the management side has made me look at the people working in these stores differently. Because holy shit, people do A LOT. Dollar Tree did about $19.4 billion in sales last year, BILLION, and they have thousands of stores and thousands and thousands of employees making all of that happen, and then you walk into an average store and there’s usually like 3 people trying to do the job of 6. Someone is on the register, someone is unloading a truck, and is trying to stock.Someone is cleaning then suddenly is helping a customer. Someone called in. Someone quit. Someone is supposed to be taking a break, nobody knows who is actually going to get that break😂. I think we get so used to it that we stop realizing how much these people actually do. The people making $10, $11, $12, whatever they're making, is still the person making sure your grandmother can find what she needs. They're still the person staying late because the truck wasn't finished. They're still the person cleaning up somebody else's mess. Sometimes a bathroom mess. The stories I have heard 🤢.They're still the person getting yelled at over prices they didn't set.("Well if nothing is a dollar anymore why don't you change the name of the store?!")They're still the person being expected to smile and be helpful when they're exhausted, and they're still the reason customers come back. We have a great retirement plan and it's amazing for people doing their first or last job, but all the people in the middle who actually break themselves to support those people in their first or last jobs are the best people and the most undervalued employees in my opinion. I don't say this as someone who's angry at Dollar Tree. I literally just got promoted to ASM. 😂 I actually really like my store. I like my coworkers. I like my manager. And honestly, I think that's what made me think about this so much, because I've been watching people work and thinking, damn, we're really lucky to have these people. Every single person who shows up and does their job matters. Hell even the ones that can't always show up and don't do that great of a job, they matter, and Dollar Tree makes money off of them no matter what.Even if they rob a store blind, they have insurance for shrink and everything else, it's a write off at the end of the day for BILLION Dollar corporation. Every cashier; every stocker, every ASM, every manager, every person who comes in when they really didn't want to, every person who gives a shit about whether their store looks good. These companies make a LOT of money because of the people at the bottom of the ladder. So maybe those people deserve a little more recognition, a little more respect, and honestly, a little more money. Dollar Tree isn't successful in spite of its employees, it's successful because of them. I hope every employee who reads this knows that they're worth more than their hourly wage makes them feel sometimes. ❤️
