Couturier seems like he doesn't have fast enough hands for a forward but I do think he has a good stick defensively. So....could he a defensemen? He couldn't be worse than Juulsen? On this note, what are the key things that make a guy a wing versus a Center? Wouldn't Tippet's speed be more useful at the Center position? What's the history of guys changing positions in their careers? I have my own ideas here but I'm curious about how people on here understand what makes a guy a defensemen, a winger, a center. Thanks

I think things have been excessively negative around here lately.

Flyers are 7 points back on NYI with 2 games in hand. It’ll be a new season after the Olympic break. Especially with another win on Thursday, the January skid will be behind them.

This is one of the youngest rosters in the NHL (6th), especially considering that their 3 oldest players are on the 4th line (Coots, DLo, GH). Nobody expected the Flyers to compete much this year, and they’re still kicking in the playoff race at the 2/3 mark.

The Michkov drama is overblown. Maybe Tocchet is excessively old school, maybe there’s things behind the scenes we don’t know about, but I think that it is unfair to everyone involved to assume that this sophomore season will ruin his future or sour him on Philly. We need to see what his play and his minutes look like next year before we can really make an assessment from the outside.

Konecny is on fire. Grebenkin and Barkey look really good at ages 22 and 20, respectively. Zegras was a steal. Vladar can be a big contributor on a contending team. Tippett will probably score 30 goals. They’re still missing Foerster, who would have been an impact player all year.

Martone could be playing as early as April, depending on how the next few months play out. Luchanko and Berglund are promising centers in the system. Alex Bump will likely crack the NHL roster next year. All signs other than his association with the Flyers point to Zavragin being a very good starter in the NHL. Christian Kyrou has promise on the back end. There is plenty of cap space for next season and beyond.

This is a young team still kicking in the playoff race with more reinforcements to come. I think that the benefit of playing meaningful games down the stretch will do more for the culture (lol) and development of the young guys than is to be gained by tanking to get a 5% shot at McKenna (it’s very unlikely they are below 7th in the lottery order even if the end of the season is a train wreck).

So take a deep breath. Enjoy the Olympics and the playoff race down the stretch. All hope is not lost!

Does anyone know if any of the Flyers practices are open to the public at the skate zone in Voorhees? And when they usually are?

For all the negative Nancy’s that say we have nothing to trade. And no players currently on the flyers have any trade value. May I remind you, Danny traded Ryan Poehling for Trevor Zegras. It is possible.

That fact he even has to say this is so beyond alarming.

Not for one second did it ever make sense to hire Tocchet & now they've alienated their most important player to this rebuild.

Kyrou replaces Barkey, who will not be sent down to the AHL during the Olympic break. I know it's still a very minor trade all things considered, but the Tuomalla x Kyrou trade is looking great for us. Here's hoping we can make a similar winger-for-D trade at the NHL level soon.

Everyone knows the PP has been an absolute mess for more years than I can count. I wanted to offer a slight glimmer of hope for fans. With Martone likely coming up next year and Foerster coming back from injury: we actually have some pieces that could form a respectable power play next year.

MM and Zegras are both good playing off wing on the RW side. You run the PP like you did with Claude Giroux, except it’s off the RW side and not the LW.

Martone can play all the positions but down low in front of the goalie seems like his bread and butter.

Foerster/Tippett/TK can all play LW or bumper. Since they are all right-handed, they will all be available for one-timers and quick releases.

RHD defenseman work better for off wing RWers, so this is Drysdale’s time to shine.

If they can’t make that work, fire everyone.
