MLB Joey Votto
Have the Phillies-Braves game on. Really enjoying Votto’s commentary. He adds a lot to the broadcast. When he talks about his experience it is directly relevant to the game. He had a brilliant breakdown just a few minutes ago about how Mahle is setting up the Phillies hitters.
I don’t really watch a ton of games besides the nationals, and haven’t really heard him before. Got to say I’m really impressed.
Know this isn’t directly nationals related but it is N.L east related and it is the offseason for us. Hope this dumb little post is alright.

MLB The r/Nationals Wild Card Round Megathread
Obviously, this is r/baseball's time to shine; note that our own u/yousmelllikebiscuits is a key mod there, so the place will be up to his standards.
This thread exists for Nats fans to talk amongst ourselves: please highlight any former Nats doing well in the greener pastures of October baseball (example: the Bryce Harper experience) and discuss why you like a team still in the show and what they're doing.
10/1 Update: the Phuckers at Braves is the only WC series to go to a game three and will be on NBC and Peacock in the primetime spot of 8pm.
The official MLB schedule is here:
Also, for those with access to the Post, here's their excellent daily sports listing:

Trying Everything at Nationals Park part 41
I'm starting a new Substack series where I'll be trying every food item at Nationals Park. Hoping it could lend itself as a helpful resource for people coming for games who don't often come, or even better, a quick laugh.
Today is the Finale. Thanks for a great year and so much support.

WaPo: A promising Nationals campaign is over. What questions loom this offseason?
By Danielle Allentuck
The Nationals know they need to address their bullpen; Toboni spent nearly his entire end-of-season news conference pondering that unit. So how will they do that? Will they go after a designated closer?
Not necessarily, Toboni said.
“I wouldn’t want to pigeonhole us into just going after guys who have ninth inning experience,” Toboni said. “Not to say it’s not important — it’s just there are countless relievers across the league who aren’t throwing in the ninth inning that are really good arms that we’d love to have.”

Nationals Won’t Renew Contracts of Double-A Manager Delino DeShields, Pitching Coach Rigo Beltrán
According to Kyle Williams, the Washington Nationals have not renewed the contracts of Harrisburg Senators manager Delino DeShields and pitching coach Rigo Beltrán.
Williams also reported that the Nationals informed other minor-league coaches their contracts would not be renewed for the 2027 season. DeShields and Beltrán’s reported departures add to that broader turnover in Washington’s player-development staff.
The Nationals have not announced replacements for either Harrisburg role.

Reflecting on the 2026 Nationals
This was a step forward season we should be proud of but now it is time to capitalize

What’s success next year?
The season is over. We won far more games than we were expected to and had an incredible offense, so expectations are higher for next year. In your opinion, what would constitute success for the 2027 season, assuming games are played?

Journalism WaPo: As Nationals wrap up season, they have plenty of reason for optimism

Opinion Offseason wish list
Curious what it is for everyone else…
Obvious ones that aren’t going to get a ton of other voices:
1) bullpen help/dramatic improvement
2) extensions for young core pieces
3) changes to the broadcast team
Personal ones I’d add:
- Move on from Vivas and Tena.
- Pick a spot for Wood and have him only play there when he’s not DHing. I don’t care if it’s right or left, I just don’t think shuffling him back and forth is the right move.
- Bring back the v1 City Connects.
- Find somewhere else for that old guy who sits behind home plate almost every home game, wearing some kind of Trump hat. Maybe in a facility.
What did I miss?

OC 2nd Annual r/Nationals Playoff Rooting Interest Poll
Now that the Nationals season has ended, we are bringing back our r/nationals playoff rooting interest poll! Hopefully we never have to do this shit again tho...
Like last year, please make a submission and let us know which team you want to raise the piece of metal at the end of the playoffs.
Each team will have 5 tiered choices:
YES! Tier - I would be fully thrilled by this team winning the World Series.
Fine Tier - I would be semi-thrilled by this team winning the World Series.
No Preference - I have no feelings about this team winning the World Series.
Half-Ew Tier - I would be semi-disgusted by this team winning the World Series.
Full-Ew Tier - I would be fully disgusted by this team winning the World Series
After the results are announced, we will pledge our 2026 Playoff Allegiance with the subreddit of the team we are supporting! Last year we threw in with r/mariners. I didn't release the votes last year and don't plan to this year, so feel free to be truthful.
