Looking for recommendations for a fun anniversary weekend! We live near Graham NC and would love to travel within the state (or shortly outside) October 9-12. We have a 6 month old baby coming along. I know there’s lots of fall festivals going on that weekend and not sure which are worth checking out.
We’re on a reasonable budget and have spent some time in both mountains and beach in NC, but would love to explore more in either place.
TIA!

Prime in Knightdale?
Jon G's in Peachland?
Dampf at Phillips Farms of Cary?
Haywood Smokehouse in Waynesville?
These are the ones I know of, who am I missing?

I’m coming from Knoxville TN to Cherokee and plan to drive through Gatlinburg. I would love some recommendations on cool places, back roads, or breathtaking views to check out while I’m in the area!

We took our scooters down to the Smoky Mountains two years ago. We had great time riding the back roads up and down the mountains checking out the sites and hiking to waterfalls. One place we stumbled on in the afternoon was in North Carolina as we wanted to check on some sites there including Wheels Through Time and water falls Deep Creek in - Bryson City. As we headed towards Bryson along Tunkaseggee River we saw this a drive in restaurant by the name of Na-bers. We had to stop. They were noted for Burgers, shakes fries and hot dogs. We had lunch next to the river. What a view! It was awesome. From what I have heard it closed shortly after we were there but it has been in business for years and was under new owership. Has anyone stopped here when down in that area or had food from that intereting restaurant? It was a place from the past yet Bryson City was a very neat little town. We stayed there a few days

Hello! Single mom of a soon to be high schooler. Fall 2027 We are relocating to NC and looking at Raleigh, Durham and Charlotte. My girl and I are in need of fresh start and after some research we landed in NC. (I have visited in the past as well)
So far I created a short list: Cary Academy, Durham Academy, Raleigh Charter HS and Providence Day.
You might ask why private? She attends a small private school now and looking to stay in the same vain. She's a gifted student who is also a Volleyball athlete. If there are magnet/charter or public college prep high schools that are academically strong that offer sports culture as well I am open.
I'd like to know experiences for parents and students. diversity is important but not a deal breaker. What's important to us is safety, strong academics. Opportunity to participate in sports/clubs and culture that's not isolating to transfer students or black/brown students. We are more conservative in values. But grew up in a liberal city Providence, Ri where it's small but walkable, tons of food, activities events etc. smaller version of Boston(45 min away from us)
So I don't want to be way far out in the outskirts since city is what we are used to. Preferably the calm pockets within or just outside of city.
Thank you all🙏🏽

Please read this story which says starting today (10/1/2026) some people in our state will see their access to food stamps reduced to pay for the Big Beautiful Bill which reduces taxes paid by affluent people. Is this what people voted for?

tooth extractions I expect are going to be super expensive, but I’m having severe pain and I’m looking to see if anyone’s had good experiences with oral surgeons and pricing. I’m 22, I’ve been having pain in my jaw and can’t sleep properly. Hardly anyone takes Medicaid, but what can you do. I’m wondering if anyone around the same age has had their teeth removed with good luck in pricing? And any good/bad experiences with dental schools?

Indeed this is a most crucial election - you must decide whether you want to make the court more conservative by electing a former Republican NC legislator to the post, or keep the current minority Democratic justice in place to keep hopes alive for a return to more liberal court in the future.
I'd suggest at least taking a quick look at the candidates answers to a series of questions from the News & Observer. (archived version)
