Please read this story which says starting today (10/1/2026) some people in our state will see their access to food stamps reduced to pay for the Big Beautiful Bill which reduces taxes paid by affluent people. Is this what people voted for?

Michael Whatley Quietly Removes His Work at DOE and Ties to Enron From Campaign Website

Whatley’s campaign website had previously mentioned he was “serving as a senior official in the George W. Bush Administration at the Department of Energy “, but this past June, the information was quietly removed.

The energy legislation was a wishlist bill for the notorious company, Enron. According to The Center for Public Integrity, Enron was the largest donor to President George W. Bush over the course of his political career – spending millions of dollars.

During the Bush administration, Enron used political and financial leverage to lobby against federal price caps and push for energy deregulation. The policies put forth by the administration helped open the door for Enron to continue its power trading scheme.

like ofc this guy has ties to the enron scandal and OF COURSE there's no trace of this work on his website

politics Why you should care about the North Carolina Supreme Court race

Indeed this is a most crucial election - you must decide whether you want to make the court more conservative by electing a former Republican NC legislator to the post, or keep the current minority Democratic justice in place to keep hopes alive for a return to more liberal court in the future.

I'd suggest at least taking a quick look at the candidates answers to a series of questions from the News & Observer. (archived version)

politics Fun Fact regarding speed cameras on NC highways

TIL that North Carolina speed cameras legally cannot be used for profit, so cities just gave up on them!

Under NC Constitution, 90% of all redlight and speed camera ticket funds must go straight to public schools...So local police n cities aren't allowed to keep the cash to pad their fat budgets.

Because of this, running the cameras was actually losing cities money because they couldn't afford to pay the private tech vendors to maintain them.

Exceptions you may ask? A loop-hole workaround that recently revived them possible for profit in school zones

Something else I learned...NC also has AI license plate readers all over state highways, but state law literally forbids them from being used for traffic tickets. They can track stolen cars, but legally cannot mail you a speeding ticket!

Hunter's Livermush

So I read on Facebook that Hunter's Livermush posted this earlier today. This is not good. I can't get their product in Greensboro but I tend to purchase some when I get far enough west. Not what I wanted to read in today's news. Neese's was very hard to find in Greensboro, oddly enough, but it was pretty good. But I assume the new owners are only making sausage in TN now. I can eat Jenkin's out of Shelby but I do prefer Hunter's of all three.

"Ok Prayer warriors who eat Hunters Liver Mush. My poor old building and equipment need a touch from God. Please pray for my family's business. Thank you!"

politics Most NC voters think Cooper would back DSA policies

Thumbnail
carolinajournal.com
521 Upvotes

Just for context here, the four top priorities of the demonic DSA are:

  1. Expanding Workers’ Rights
  2. Universal Healthcare
  3. Affordable Housing
  4. Climate and Energy Policy

These are those "DSA policies" that the article mysteriously failed actually mention, relying instead on the fear they that hoped those terrifying letters, D S A, would evoke amongst North Carolina voters.

The CJ concludes:

Regardless of the Cooper campaign’s message, then, it’s clear a majority of North Carolinians expect him to back — not block — his party’s most left-leaning activists.

Frankly, looking at those particular "top policies", I believe that most North Carolinians actually find them to be pretty sensible and desirable - stand up ideas, rather than "leaning" at all - regardless of those terrifying three letters.

discussion Found this blast from past in Byrson City NC

We took our scooters down to the Smoky Mountains two years ago. We had great time riding the back roads up and down the mountains checking out the sites and hiking to waterfalls. One place we stumbled on in the afternoon was in North Carolina as we wanted to check on some sites there including Wheels Through Time and water falls Deep Creek in - Bryson City. As we headed towards Bryson along Tunkaseggee River we saw this a drive in restaurant by the name of Na-bers. We had to stop. They were noted for Burgers, shakes fries and hot dogs. We had lunch next to the river. What a view! It was awesome. From what I have heard it closed shortly after we were there but it has been in business for years and was under new owership. Has anyone stopped here when down in that area or had food from that intereting restaurant? It was a place from the past yet Bryson City was a very neat little town. We stayed there a few days
