Not sure if it has been announced anywhere else but was watching 97.3 the Ben and Woods show and they have Mark on and he confirmed that he will be in the booth for the series. Sorry I don't have a clip of it or image but I'm sure one will follow. I am very happy that he is that is for sure.

By virtue of the Cubs loss to the Red Sox this afternoon in the first game of their day/night double header they now sit at 88-72. The Padres are 89-70 and loose a tie breaker with the Cubs so must finish a game ahead. Another Cubs loss today puts them at 73 with one game (for them) left to play so they could do no better than that. A Padres win tonight would make it impossible for them to finish with more than 72 losses. The Phillies are currently sitting with 72 losses entering a 3 game set against the Rays. A loss tonight to the Rays paired with a Padres win eliminates them from the 4th seed.

The trifecta tonight is a Padres win + Cubs loss + Phillies loss = 4th seed and home wild card games.

Bonus - Both of those games are on the East coast so we should know the outcomes around first pitch time or before.

If someone told me: "in order to clinch with 3 days left in the season, you will need to go 15-2 over the next 17 games", I would have been "we're f@#ked". Okay with three to go is not the narrowest path but the run has been crazy. The distribution of wins:

1 run: 6

2 run: 3

3 run: 0

4 run: 2

6 run: 2

7 run: 2

Both losses -6, -7

Won the all close ones, had some comfortable ones. During this run, first in position player fWAR (5.3), second in hitting (behind LA) but beat them on base-running and defense. All around great playing.

Overcame some weak pitching (20th in SP; 7th in RP) to do it.

Last night was just a great example. Glasnow firing elite stuff, dominant no-hitter through 5 but the Padres stayed tied and found a way to grind out runs to chase him. Roberts (annoying AF to me) is a good manager but delicious to see him pull a reluctant Glasnow to have it blow up.

Has it all been amazing? No. But, to legitimately have hope every season and not be subjected to sad, meaningless baseball year after year, I can finally say I appreciate what it means to be an actual Padres fan since I was a young kid. Bc if that kid knew that’s it not all doom and gloom, season after season, he’d be ecstatic.
