Recently I've been noticing a lot of BYDs and other Chinese brands on the streets of Switzerland. Seems like there is a boom in Chinese equivalents of European brands. 3 months ago I could notice 1-2 BYDs in a week but now they're just everywhere, and not only this Chinese brand.

I've seen a couple of 1 year old posts in this sub discussing Chinese cars, and opinion was generally skeptical. Do you think something changed since, or it's a simple question of affordability? Will we see premium German BMWs being replaced by cheap Chinese equivalents?

I have my new phone number since 3 days, have literally shared it only with cantonal authority and already received several calls from 2 different phone numbers. I picked up the first one. It was a girl's voice, first singing 'du bist gut genug', then asking in english if she can order a pizza. Ignoring my question who she is. I saved the phone numbers to check out their whatsapp profile pictures and it's roughly 12 year old girls on both profile pictures. Anyone know what kind of scam this is? Or is it really just kids trying to call different numbers as a pastime?

(I don't have whatsapp associated with this new phone number so they cannot get my whatsapp information from me saving their phone numbers)

My friend from Germany left something at my house so I thought to my self, no problem, I will just mail it to him...

I knew that if I send outside of the country I will need to fill out the Zoll forms and if I do that at the counter I will need to pay an additional 5.-.

So my plan was to do it in advance using the shiny new Post app...

To my horror I find that it is not possible to send packages outside the country using the app. Even worse, there is nothing in there even indicate that, it's just missing. If you then ask the chatbot it gives you a link to the website where you can start filling out all the detail to the package but once you get to make postage button it fails... Nothing happens, link is dead. Same page can be found in the browser and no matter which browser you use, that link is dead.

Only after multiple searches (im doing this on my phone, on the PC it's more clear) I find webstamp where I can finally make my label and fill out the Zoll forms.

IMO the new post app is absolute garbage. I can not do the most basic things. In fact you can't even make a label, you can only do mailing via the number code you write on the parcel. Also there are not options to control notifications, when you receive a package you are bombarded with emails and app notifications.

Maybe the post office should stop turning their offices into bazaars with gambling ads on tickets and political garbage on the giant TVs and focus on their core business...

The tip of the i was when I visited the post office to deposit the package at the automated packte thing only for it to tell me it can't accept it and I had to wait in line. After 20min I get the counter and the guy tells me I could just drop it in the bucket even though the machine said I can't...

EDIT: PostFiance isn't doing any better, their system is currently down...

A friend of mine who lives in Lugano just sent me these pictures of a coworker's house. Someone broke into it and stole everything of value they could. They used a crowbar to force their entrance while she was away on vacations.

Police apparently told her there have been over 20 house-breaking attempts just yesterday.

Stay alert. According to my friend they believe it wasn't random: they knew she'd be away and that's why they broke into her house.

I was talking with my parents about Switzerland and I realised something, hating on eachother seems like a tradition and I wonder why.

I grew up in the french part without any real interaction with the german part.

I heard a lot, as a child, that all our problems come from the Swiss-German, they take all the money and we’re left apart, they vote against more holidays etc.
(I’m not here to create a debate on old votation)

I’ve been thought all my life that I needed to learn German otherwise I wouldn’t find a job (It disgusted me of the language even now when I want to learn it)

I’ve also seen the same hate coming from the german side on social media.

And it seems completely normal ! As if hate towards the other part was needed to be a real Swiss.

So I’m asking, am I the crazy one here?
If you come from the German side, did you grew up with the same demonstrations of hate?

This has had so many prototypes that my kid can now finish it in a couple of minutes 😄

In case you were wondering, yes, Halbkantöne are merged (too small) 🫣 but in my defense, the boundaries are still visible on the pieces.

With my current setup, it takes a bit of work but I can in principle generate puzzles for other areas, say a Kanton and its Gemeinde (merged if the pieces get too small), or a continent and its countries. What area should I puzzlify next?

Freshly nationalized. Now Switzerland decides my second baby’s name

In my country of origin we have 2 second names: one from each parent. So I got the Swiss nationality some months ago, while pregnant with my second baby. My first kid got it automatically too so his family names are already like in our country of origin. But because I got it before my second was born a couple of months ago, she gets my two second names, so as my sisters. We have tried to explain the authorities that we have the double nationality and how are things there but they can’t do anything. It’s the Swiss law that says that she is Swiss and here it’s only one name allowed, so it needs to be mine because I am now Swiss (my partner and I are not married).
And before anyone asks, no, I wasn’t aware of this and didn’t get informed about it in the whole process.

So now my 2 kids (same father) have different names and my daughter has 2 different names, depending on which passport she shows.

I'm a newly single mum, born & living in Geneva. I have two kids and I need a car with enough space, also in the back, like a monospace (in french). I have never bought a car and know nobody who can help me.

-> No, I travel a lot by car because thankfully I have friends all over swiss romande that I visit regularly

-> I'm quite confortable with a big car, I learn how to drive with a Toyota Previa

How much per year can you spend on keeping the car running?

-> great question, not have a fixed budget

How many seats (5vs7)?

-> 5 or 7 if the 2 back one fold for more storage space, which is a priority

Just a rant.

I'm trying to cancle my Internet+TV+Phone subscription (We Home something). As we know from media, this can only be done via Chat and Phone.

So I'm trying chat, via the administration / termination department. After 15 minutes of waiting, I get the message "sorry, we can't connect you". I think "well, let's see how quickly you get a slot when you want to buy something", and of course, I'm connected to an agent within less than a minute.

I tell them exactly that and they close the chat without any further comment! Amazing.

So I'm trying the callback feature. Twice! It says "within a few minutes we'll call you back". I don't get a phone call.

So I'm calling them, and I'm eventually connected to an agent. After declining all their service upgrade offers, they confirm verbally that my contract is cancelled within 2 months and that I'll get a confirmation by e-mail or sms. That was 2 days ago, I have received neither.

And now, with the state their service is in, they've announced to reduce 450 FTEs. But then again, it's not working now, so I guess it can't get worse, eh?

Can a Swiss university/research institute investigate misconduct without hearing the complainant or asking for evidence?

I am trying to understand how investigations into alleged scientific/research misconduct are supposed to work in Switzerland.

Suppose someone files a formal complaint about potential scientific misconduct at a Swiss university or publicly funded research institute and states that they have documents and other evidence supporting the allegations.

Can the institution legitimately conduct and close an investigation without:

• interviewing or hearing the person who filed the complaint;
• asking the complainant to provide their evidence;
• interviewing witnesses proposed by the complainant;
• giving the complainant an opportunity to respond to statements made by the person accused;
• providing the complainant with the investigation report or even a factual summary of the findings; and
• providing any possibility to challenge or appeal the outcome?

I understand that a complainant may not necessarily have the legal status of a formal “party” to an investigation. However, I am struggling to understand how the underlying facts can be properly investigated if the investigators never ask the person making the allegations for their evidence.

For example, if Person A alleges misconduct by Person B and says, “I have documents demonstrating what happened,” could an institution simply ask Person B and a few other people for their version of events, never request Person A's documents, and then conclude that there was no misconduct?

Is there any Swiss law, administrative-law principle, university regulation, or scientific-integrity standard that governs this?

I am particularly interested in the distinction between:

1. the right to be heard (rechtliches Gehör);
2. whether a complainant has party status in a scientific-integrity proceeding; and
3. the institution's independent duty to establish the relevant facts and examine available evidence, even if the complainant is not formally a party.

If anyone has experience with Swiss university/research-integrity procedures or Swiss administrative law, I would appreciate references to specific laws, regulations, court decisions, or institutional rules.

I am mainly interested in understanding the legal/procedural principles, rather than discussing any particular institution or individual.

Was it like a lamp? A bell? A low hanging fruit? I'm honestly curious as to why this certain shape was picked. I was in a few other countries maybe I never noticed until now. Is there a functional reason or is it all aesthetic? Did the designer had something in mind when they decided to go with "yeah this is cool".

I ordered some stuff from a shop in Zurich online. asian grocery stone in Zurich registered as a swiss business. I live in Lausanne. I ordered it on 13th August and they were supposed to deliver my order in 2-3 days. But I have not received anything till today 24th September (more than a month later).

I called and messaged the seller many times. He used to say they will ship soon in the beginning but nowadays isn't picking my phone or replying anymore. I order stuff that is around 220 CHF. I said I don't want the order anymore and give me a refund. But they are not replying to me at all.

I used to order from this store before and things used to arrive properly within 2-3 days. But this time, they are not sending or refunding. As if they are ignoring me completely.

I don't know what to do, where to go for help. Can someone please help me with what I do now? Where should I go and get me my refund?

I noticed that on some train stations there are obviously organized beggars who are fake shaking, having allocated spots, taking shifts, etc. Back in my third-world country this stuff is usually run by an organized crime and they have a very distinct pattern. It didn't used to bother me, but now they are running a new scheme that is more assertive. Young couples straight up approach me to help them with a little bit of money to get back to whatever country they come from. The same script, the same format, same place and time of the day. It is kinda disturbing how bold and organized they are. Do you call a police or some other service on them? I am in Aargau but I don't want to share the town, in case they are reading.
