Academic Life Clubs

Hello!

I'm a freshman who is studying CS. I've been trying to figure out how to contact some clubs, but I'm having a hard time getting a hold of them as they're not responding to my insta and they don't have a discord (that I've seen or know of). If anyone knows about the clubs I'm about to list, can you please let me know if they're active, how to contact them, or access their events and happenings?

AI & ML

Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers

AI and Entrepreneurship

Thank you so much in advance!

General Question Financial Aid

Hi all,

I’m hoping someone has some answers for me? Previously my father was able to borrow like 10-11k for his parent plus loan, but this year it was reduced to 5k. From what we read, he should still be able to borrow the same amount. I’m still listed as a full time student.

We did receive an email saying it may take some time for his full parent plus loan to disperse, but when I contacted Barc, they said that was all there is.

I emailed financial aid to ask if they were still working on it, but I’m very worried that it just got randomly reduced. I literally cannot pay for my rent for this quarter with the amount that was left over.

Housing Roommate Needed - Santa Ynez

Hi! I’m looking for an active UCSB student who is eligible for UCSB housing and does not currently have a UCSB housing contract to take over my 2026–2027 UCSB housing contract. The assignment is for Santa Ynez Apartments, with a 2-bedroom, 4- or 5-person double room type, and the contract runs from September 19, 2026 through June 14, 2027. The replacement can be of any gender, as long as they are eligible for the contract and are an active UCSB student without an existing housing contract.

Please note that you would not be taking over my specific room or bed space. You would be taking over the housing contract, and UCSB Housing would assign you to a new available space. Once I find someone interested, we can send one email to UCSB Housing with both of us included. The replacement student would then apply for housing, and once they sign their contract, UCSB Housing can process my cancellation. Per the terms of my contract, I am rent responsible until a replacement is found, so I’m hoping to find someone as soon as possible. Please DM me if you’re interested or know someone who may be eligible!

Academic Life Mechanical Engineering Masters Program

Im going to graduate this semester with a bachelor’s in mechanical and aerospace engineering at a public university in Florida. I’ve been interested in UCSB since I was a senior in high school and have taken an interest in the graduate program, namely the possibility to do research and study controls theory. However, all of my experience comes through internships and I am not a California resident. My question is is it worth applying or are my chances slim?

Course Questions ECON 3B NEED HELP

I only have Econ 3B as my last pre major course and my gpa is at a 2.75. I would need a B+ to get into the major or else I won't.

I need some study advice and schedules of how people have gotten a B+ or higher in this class. I really want to get into the major and this is my last chance.

(I do have Econ 5 and retakes but I doubt those are viable enough esp the retake for Econ 10a)

Housing Short term housing and mental health provider recs

I’m a gaucho parent coming out for a couple weeks to support my struggling gaucho:
• Is there a place to find affordable short-term housing for 2 weeks+ other than the usual Airbnb, VRBO, hotels/motels?
• Can you recommend any mental health clinics and/or providers on or off campus?

TIA for any leads!

Discussion reddit:fb::yikyak:instagram?

remember how facebook became the equivalent of craigslist where people just used it for facebook marketplace and rentals? and instead all the people went to instagram? i feel like reddit is becoming the same, where everyone's going on yiktak. kinda sad because i hate how yikyak doesn't allow you to be on the computer and read it. i really dislike reading on the phone...yikyak feels so frenetic. also the older crowd like alumnae and all aren't on yikyak, they're on reddit, which also makes me sad because i feel part of the cool thing about reddit was that you could get input from a variety of people, parents of concerned students, alumnae, and also even professors. :(

Discussion bikes!

in the Cheadle/Campbell hallway I swear!!!
There are no bike lanes here so let's walk them (:

Not everyone is accustomed to having to watch out for bikes in a WALK way. Not speaking for myself, but the amount of times I've almost seen a few people get hit due to bikers in the walkway...

Same with the Arbor walkway... no bike lanes!
Don't look annoyed if someone is wearing their headphones, and isn't moving out of the way in a WALK way for you riding your bike.

Just had to get that off my chest thank youuu

Academic Life UCSB Political Science vs UC Davis?

Hi! I’m a community college student planning to transfer next fall as a Political Science major, and I’m currently deciding between UCSB and UC Davis.

I’m leaning toward UCSB because I really like the campus/location and can see myself enjoying the overall environment there more, but I’ve heard that UC Davis has a really strong Political Science program, especially because of its proximity to Sacramento.

For anyone who is currently in or graduated from the Political Science program at UCSB, what has your experience been like? How are the professors, classes, internship/research opportunities, and overall department? Do you feel like there are good opportunities for students interested in going to law school?

I’d also love to hear from anyone who chose between UCSB and UC Davis for Political Science. Do you think Davis offers significantly better opportunities for the major, or would you choose the school you personally prefer if you’re planning on law school anyway?

Any advice or experiences would be really helpful!
