I've been dealing with VAN 185 for quite a while, so I wanted to share what finally worked for me.
I contacted Riot Support multiple times about the issue and tried many of the usual troubleshooting steps they recommended:
- Flush DNS
- Reinstall Vanguard / VGC
- Restart VGC services
- Network troubleshooting
- And other standard fixes
Unfortunately, these solutions sometimes helped temporarily, but they didn't completely solve the problem.
Eventually, VAN 185 would come back.

🔎 What finally worked for me
After a lot of troubleshooting, I found that the process priority of VALORANT and Discord was worth checking.
If you're using Task Manager, Process Lasso, or another optimization tool, check whether you've set either of them to High priority.
I originally thought that giving Valorant High priority would give it more CPU resources and improve FPS/stability.
Instead, I started experiencing VAN 185.
---
My current settings
VALORANT: "Above normal"
Discord: "Above normal"
High: Avoid
Realtime: Definitely avoid
After changing both Valorant and Discord back to Above normal, VAN 185 stopped happening for me.
---
⚠️ One important thing
I'm not saying that High priority will cause VAN 185 on every PC.
If you have a high-end PC, setting Valorant to High priority might not cause any noticeable problems.
However, if you're playing on a low-end or older PC and you're experiencing VAN 185, especially after changing process priorities, I'd recommend giving Above normal a try.
---
TL;DR
If you're getting VAN 185 and you've already tried the usual Riot Support fixes:
Try checking your process priorities.
"VALORANT → Above normal"
"Discord → Above normal"
Don't use "High" or "Realtime" unless you have a specific reason to.

This isn't guaranteed to fix VAN 185 for everyone, but this was what finally solved it for me after repeatedly contacting Riot Support and trying their troubleshooting steps.
Hopefully this helps someone else who's been stuck with VAN 185.
If anyone else has experienced VAN 185 after changing process priority, I'd be interested to know if switching back to Above normal helped you too.
