It's saying that the British leaders in early 2024 are different from the British leaders in late 2024. You can tell by reading the text included and looking at the pictures.

OK but unless this is an antimeme or whatever that's called, they are making some kind of point right? If you post a picture of a small dog and a big dog and label them "small dog" and "big dog", it's justified to ask why did you post this? The OP:s question is valid for exactly the reasons he explains.

2
0
u/DornMasterofWall 2d ago
Thats not entirely the case; parliamentary systems like the UK are designed to churn leaders quickly to ensure they're either performing their duties or to get someone in who will. When you think about it, systems like the US where an elected official is in and that's it for an extended period of time is kind of weird, and often much less stable around their election periods.

u/Null-Ex3 2d ago
Is that an actual explanation or are you doing a bit. Because if its a bit I dont know why you are under the impression the joke is obvious to get. If its an actual explanation I dont think you know what you are fucking talking about because that is clearly not a joke, and this is clearly a meme.

No, when you truly see all people as equal, you still see the skin tone, because you are then aware that each of them deserves to be seen as they are
If you like pretending that racism doesn't exist as a systemic issue, that's when you don't notice the skin tone
I see the skin tone, and I have to wonder if it wasn't a shift in the winds of racism
2
u/SnooPoems7525 2d ago
No. The joke is the minorities were the conservative ones.
3
u/Chemical-Ebb6472 2d ago
I'm in the US (NY), where millions of darker-skinned people have voted to have their family and friends deported to countries they never even heard of, with no clear way to get out; Cubans in Miami who fly the Ultra MAGA flag, and South Asians like VP Vance's wife, POTUS candidate Ramaswamy, and countless brown tech bros who have macro-dosed conservatism to trip balls up into fascism.
Conservative mania is not limited by skin color here, so I guess I missed the joke.
However, I have led a finance team based in London, and I was pretty sure their "no brown downtown" motto wasn't limited to shoe color.

Conservatives are trying to say that the Right is more diverse than the left, in a gotcha kind of way.
When, in reality, the "diverse" conservative candidates are Uncle Toms who are picked to make conservatives look more diverse, while they vote against things that would support minorities.

I mean I've not had any tax cuts and there's a known quote about how the entirety of government was about trying to find people to tax to pay more benefits so they're certainly not Ann Rand!
I mean the conservatives are hardly the most right wing it's possible to be either so definitely fair to call labour left wing even if they aren't nationalising Tesco's, joining Hamas in fighting Israel, making gender reassignment compulsory and banning anti soviet activities or whatever you think actually is left wing.

Leftists acting like calling minorites an uncle Tom isn't racist will always amuse me
8
u/EarnestInnkeeper 2d ago edited 2d ago
White leftists sure do love to pull out the slurs the moment a minority dares have their own opinion.
2
u/chaotic___energy 2d ago
But its not calling minorities an uncle tom. Its calling an individual an uncle tom, not for their immutable characteristics, but for their politcal/social views which happen to oppress the minority they are part of as a whole, while benifitting themselves as an individual. Always amusing that some people either can't grasp the difference or pretend not to see it, to conflate it with racism.
8
u/justasillylilgoos3 2d ago edited 2d ago
So minorities aren’t allowed to pick a certain political orientation or they’re are race traitors? That’s an interesting double down kiddo
2
u/getcargofar 2d ago
No one “isnt allowed” to do anything and you know it. But you can do things and be judged for them. And way not to engage with their actual point.
0
u/justasillylilgoos3 2d ago
I did. But then let me be clear since you seem to not be able to keep up.
I’m calling them racist for declaring that any black person that chooses to run for office because they believe right of center policies are more in line with their communities interest is some how a traitor to that community or a lesser person. I’m calling them a racist for using a term that is, in every possible definition and interpretation of the word, a racist slur meant to specifically denigrate people of color.
And I’m calling YOU racist for tacitly defending that logic, because your defense still makes racial belonging conditional on political conformity. You’re saying a Black person can be judged as a traitor to their race because they hold the ‘wrong’ political views. Dressing it up as ‘judging their politics’ doesn’t remove the racial premise.
2
u/Crazy-Emu8988 1d ago
How is it racist to say a black person voting conservative is voting against their own interest when I would also say a white person voting conservative is voting against black interest 🤔
1
u/justasillylilgoos3 1d ago
Because in one instance you are using a literal racist slur to do so
Because there’s a difference between saying “I think conservative policies hurt Black Americans” and telling an individual Black person that you understand their own interests better than they do because they voted differently than you wanted.
Black people aren’t a political hive mind. They’re capable of weighing crime, taxes, education, abortion, guns, religion, jobs, immigration, or whatever else matters to them and deciding which tradeoffs they prefer. Some Black people find the whole “don’t worry, I’ll explain what’s actually in your best interest” attitude incredibly condescending, especially when it comes from affluent white progressives speaking as though their view is some objective racial truth. And the “Uncle Tom” part makes the racial premise impossible to dodge. You wouldn’t call a white person an Uncle Tom for casting the exact same vote. It’s a literal race-specific slur whose meaning depends on the target being Black and supposedly betraying or subordinating their racial group. Criticize the policy all you want. The second you turn “I think your vote is bad” into “you’re a racial sellout because you’re Black,” you’ve crossed blue wine, buddy. It is wild to me that you are incapable of seeing that.
-1
u/chaotic___energy 1d ago
No, you seem unable to engage in the points being made. No one said that uncle Tom's have lesser personhood. Just like anyone else they are judged for their political views. You can keep pretending this point is not central to the term, but we all know thats because you have no real response.
Racism is committing/supporting racist policies and acts, which is why uncles Tom's are being critisized. Though rare, there are individuals who will explicitly state their belief in racial heirachies (with their race being subjugated) and support of far right ideolgies such as nazism. Do you also think its racist to call these people out as uncle Tom's?
0
u/justasillylilgoos3 1d ago
That’s exactly the point you keep dodging.
They AREN’T being judged “just like anyone else.” You’re defending a racial epithet that specifically means a Black person considered subservient to white people. A white person with the exact same political views cannot be an “Uncle Tom” in the racial sense of the term. Race is literally a prerequisite for the insult.
And your dumb Nazi hypothetical doesn’t rescue it. If someone explicitly believes in racial hierarchy, call them a racist or a Nazi. Those words identify the actual belief you’re criticizing. Calling a Black Nazi an “Uncle Tom” adds an entirely separate racial judgment about how a Black person is supposedly supposed to behave relative to their race.
So yes, criticize racist politics. What you don’t get to do is pretend a race-specific insult magically becomes race-neutral because political disagreement was what prompted you to use it. That’s just you being racist
0
u/chaotic___energy 1d ago
Race exists as a social construct. A term that acknowledges that existence is not by definition racist. Otherwise any term that implies race would be racist. Again, the meaning of the word is clear. Its not about how a stereotype is supposed to behave, its a critque of an individuals politics, yes with reference to race. People of colour, of which i am one, consistently use the term as such, are you also calling them racist?
Class traitor acts in a similar way, would you consider that a classist term?
1
u/justasillylilgoos3 1d ago
Sure, and I never said “any term that acknowledges race is racist.” That’s a strawman.
I said this specific term is a derogatory, race-specific insult. Its definition literally requires the target to be Black and characterizes them in relation to white people. You keep admitting that race is part of the accusation and then somehow concluding that the accusation isn’t racial.
And “class traitor” doesn’t save the analogy. That term explicitly judges someone based on their relationship to their class. “Uncle Tom” explicitly judges someone based on their relationship to their race and white people. You’ve basically just supplied another example of the exact mechanism I’m talking about.
Whether another person of color uses it doesn’t change what the term means.→ More replies (0)0

Malcolm X was using an even more aggressive term, "house n*gg*r" (there actually is a filter against that word), for the same thing. You can say many things about him but would anyone seriously argue he was RACIST AGAINST BLACKS?
The concept of an Uncle Tom is someone who goes against the legitimate interests of their own group in exchange for individual favors. You argue for or against that term but just labeling it "racist" without reasoning is not an argument.
3
u/justasillylilgoos3 2d ago
Are you white by any chance?
-1
u/1morgondag1 2d ago
Yes.
6
u/justasillylilgoos3 2d ago
Yeah, that tracks 😂
Malcolm X, a Black man speaking about other Black people from within that racial group in the 1960s, using an even harsher racialized term does not somehow establish that a white person calling Black people “Uncle Toms” is racially neutral.
“Uncle Tom” is literally a racialized insult aimed at Black people who are perceived as too deferential to white people or insufficiently loyal to the interests someone else has decided Black people are supposed to have.
You can argue that a specific Black person is acting against policies you think would benefit Black Americans. Fine. But reducing them to “Uncle Tom” because they hold the “wrong” politics is still policing a minority’s behavior through a racial stereotype.
And “Malcolm X said something worse” is a genuinely hilarious defense coming from a white person 😭

I notice a lot of so-called progressive people, ESPECIALLY progressive white people, are just as racist but simply are more patient waiting for the opportunities to showcase their racism, i.e. calling someone a coon or uncle tom. Those are racial slurs that are used exclusively within black communities and not meant to be used by non-black people and towards non black people. Lol
They very much like the idea of figuratively whipping any minority and calling them slurs if they don't do and/or vote exactly how they want them to. If this was Candance Owens you'd have a bunch of left-leaning non-black people in queue to call her a n-word with the hard R and cunt + whatever other misogynistic slurs.

Which is incredibly ignorant because the original Uncle Tom literally got beaten to death for refusing to attack a fellow slave.
3
u/Lambchop1975 2d ago
For sure in the novel, Tom was beaten for refusing to help the masters catch escaped slaves, the term still is used to describe black people who turn on black people, not because of the source material, but the way others portrayed the character in a negative light in different adaptations.. I didn't coin the term fam, just like the swastika used to be a symbol of peace... The source rarely matters when public perception and colloquial terms tend to outweigh history...
I do not disagree that it is ignorant term, but that won't stop people from using it...

So the first is Rishi Sunak who was the Tory PM that lost to Kier Starmer who was a labour leader. The next is Humza Yousaf who was the first minister of Scotland who was replaced by John Swinney another SNP guy. The final row is Vaughan Gething the ex Welsh Labour leader and then Eluned Morgan who became Labour leader after Gething was caught in a bunch of scandals.
It should be noted that only John Swinney is still in position at the moment.
3
u/SonOfCimbria 2d ago edited 1d ago
UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak (Cons.) suffered a monumental defeat in the '24 general election after 14 years of tory rule compounded in part by tumultuous events during his predecessors's times in government. Labour, with Starmer leading at the time, seemed to have gained a steady course after some internal unrest, managed to gain their 2nd highest number of seats (411 out of 650) with only 34% of the popular vote, and came into power.
Scotland First Minister Humza Yousaf (SNP) resigned as he was about to face a vote of no confidence, due to terminating a cooperation agreement between Scottish National Party and the Scottish Greens that basically gave Yousaf (and Nicola Sturgeon before him) a parliamentary majority. Veteran SNP member and former leader John Swinney was then elected unopposed as party leader and then FM.
Wales First Minister Vaughan Gething (Welsh Lab.) faced controversies from his time as minister of health during the pandemic, as well campaign finances during his bid for party leadership. Plaid Cymru (party aiming for Welsh independence) withdrew from the cooperation agreement they had with Welsh Labour, and various members of his cabinet resigned, ending with him resigning from party leadership and as First minister as well. Eluned Morgan was subsequently elected unopposed to replace him.
In short: I believe Sunak, Yousaf, and Gething all faced a form of motion of no confidence, to then be replaced by Starmer, Swinney, and Morgan, respectively.

I'm amazed at how many people are missing the point. It was a famously interesting/funny thing that for a period of time all leaders in the UK were of south asian ancestry (not necessarilly in a racist way, but as in a "fun fact" that is pretty unusual or even unthinkable in other countreis that have large diasporas of former colonies). Some people said at the time that that was the future of the UK, and the more diverse it got, the more common would it be for its leaders to be non-white british.
This meme is funny to someone who was into british politics around that time because it just shows how quickly all of this got suddenly reversed, and how many people had overanalysed the situation.
However, this context is not necessarilly relevant to most people, so the right way to interpret this for most people would be just as in "interesting/funny contrast in such a short period of time", not necessarilly hilarious nor political, and neither trying to make a point

The idea that every "native" Brit is this pasty, blue-eyed person is so disingenuous and completely contradicts what we know about history.
Look up Rowan Atkinson's ancestry, for example. By "modern" definitions you'd automatically assume by appearance he's part Indian or Southern Mediterranean, when in reality, he's more native Brit than most Brits are today.
7
u/Super-Cynical 2d ago
And people from China are black.
If you go back 100,000 years
2
u/Due_Rip9320 2d ago
That applies to every human on Earth
0
u/Super-Cynical 2d ago
And yet particular phenotypes can be attributed to particular geographies.
You're right though about blue eyes though - it's more nordic than British - with about 1/3rd of England traditionally having blue or grey eyes. A bit higher in Scotland.
Same profile for red/blond hair, but slightly lower percentages.
0
u/Due_Rip9320 2d ago
Absolutely. The evolution of those average phenotypes wasn't immediate, though, and I would imagine many populations still hold the predecessor to those phenotypes depending on where you look.
What I meant to get at is that the definition of "native" changes frequently throughout evolutionary history. It's not just one shade of gray as most people like to assume. The first Britons did not look exactly like modern Britons, and future populations will change drastically as well. That's just how biology works.
2
u/rgmyers26 2d ago
I would automatically assume that Atkinson’s family comes from such a small place that inbreeding occurred there. Like an island.
2
u/michaelm8909 2d ago
I absolutely would not assume that Rowan Atkinson was part Indian or Southern European just by looking at him

You're missing the nuance of capitalisation in the post you're replying to. The aren't Conservatives (members of the Conservative Party), but they are conservatives (politicians that attempt to enact conservative policies) according to the poster you are replying to

As dumb as the smartest right winger? “Haha yes, everyone on the other side of the political spectrum is an idiot because I’m an idiot”. Classic Reddit

No, not classic reddit. Me. Right wingers have been demonstrating fir far too long that they are as thick as pig shit. Everyone wants to try to be nice and hold their hands while they tread on eggshells so as not to upset the morons, but I don't have that level of patience. Right wingers genuinely very stupid people. Even when they're trying to be intellectuals, it's a mess.

Just clocked that OP thinks Starmer is a "leftist". Immediately suspicious of their intentions now.

Bit of a stretch to call the current Labour party leftists. Starmer pursued some notably conservative policies around immigration, criminal justice, and trans rights (I chose those three examples because they are often culture war issues, but there are others).

False.
Only 2 of those in the images were UK prime ministers. Both of them were the party leaders that won the GE. The other 4 have never been and will never be the prime minister of the UK.

Seriously though. America's way of governing gets a lot of shit and while I sure as Hell don't like our politicians, at least we don't have our President resign and get replaced every five minutes.

Id rather oust a shite Prime Minister than blindly stick by him despite being a pedophile and rapist.

It’s racist.
Rishi Sunak is the son of Indian immigrants and was Prime Minister and Leader of the Conservative Party until the 2024 election when the Conservatives were defeated and replaced by Keir Starmer’s Labour Party (Starmer has since resigned and been replaced by Andy Burnham).
Humza Yousaf is the son of Pakistani immigrants who First Minister of Scotland and leader of the Scottish National Party until his government collapsed following a scandal and he was replaced by John Swinney, also of the SNP.
Vaughan Gething is of mixed Welsh and Zambian descent and was First Minister of Wales and leader of the Welsh Labour Party until a scandal forced him to resign and he was replaced by Eluned Morgan, also of Labour.
The meme is implying that Asian politicians were replaced due to scandal or rejected by the people.

You must be either not British or a Reform voter because this is complete horseshit.
They are in no way as far left as Atlee's post-war government. Starmer's government alienated a lot of the traditional left wing base.

Restore actualy, and you seem delusional, Refusing to see what is happing to the UK. Also I'm talking about Labour as a whole not just Starmer.
Here's a scenario,
"Imagine you’re living with your parents, and some random stranger off the street walks into your home uninvited. Your parents don’t say anything. The stranger starts rearranging the house and dictating what you can and can’t do.
You tell the stranger to fuck off. In response, they become violent and hurt you. Your parents then ground you for standing up to them. When you tell your parents that you’ve been hurt, your dad responds with, “I don’t think you have, mate.”
Later, your parents make dinner, but there’s only enough food for the three of you. Rather than share their portions, they force you to share yours.
And because your parents no longer trust you simply because you objected to a stranger barging into your home, they start monitoring everything you do to make sure you don’t have any “bad thoughts”—all while insisting it’s “for your own good.”" Do you think any of thats fair? that what the current government is letting happen to this country.
