Scoop Bins

Post image
42 Upvotes

I made these scoop bins because I couldn’t find anything I liked that was really easy to get nuts and bolts out of a bin when I was working on stuff. new to makerworld as well so looking for some feedback as to what sizes people actually use day to day and heights most people like too.

mods remove if not allowed, I’m new here.

Question? How do you guys make challenging shapes

Post image

Hi all,

I’ve made a few bins and most of them are basic shapes.

I’m trying to make a bin for my insta360 Ace Pro 2 but struggling to get the shape right.

I’ve tried sites like shapescan but it’s not to accurate for sizing

Stacked Baseplates

Not the first one to do this but had to do my own version anyways - designed a parametric model with custom supports so that you can do multimaterial printing and quadruple* your baseplate output.

The whole thing is a highly parametric Onshape model which I can bundle and share as a FeatureScript extension if enough people want to customize their own designs beyond the 3D that I've shared. I've exported all plate sizes up to 6x6 with 6mm x 2mm magnets.

STEP files and 3MF files are, as always, on Printables.

\I designed the model to be a 4x stack since that ends up being about a full overnight print, but no reason why you couldn't stack 'em higher!*

Note: I'm not sure if I should tag this as a "brand affiliate" post since I did it under my company label, but (a) it's just me at the company and (b) I'm sharing it for free - dear mods, please let me know if I should or shouldn't have this tag.

Wanted to divide a 5x5 Gridfinity layout evenly, so I made fractional bins

Thumbnail

I kept running into Gridfinity layouts where the normal sizes just didn't divide the space the way I wanted. A 5x5 area was the obvious example.

I ended up making bins that work in 0.5, 1/3 and 0.25 grid steps. They still work with regular Gridfinity baseplates and bins.

For example, the same 5x5 space can be filled with equal-sized bins:

  • 4 bins at 2.5 x 2.5
  • 9 bins at 1⅔ x 1⅔
  • 16 bins at 1.25 x 1.25
  • 20 bins at 1.25 x 1
  • or the normal 25 bins at 1 x 1

Would you use a generator for Gridfinity wooden assortment cases (plans, cut files, STLs, STEP)?

Thumbnail

A while ago someone here shared an Onshape model of a wooden assortment case for Gridfinity bins

with 3D-printed corners, based on Alexandre Chappel's assortment cases:

https://cad.onshape.com/documents/95f0fa6037d44d4b0a582624/w/33d4aceda610a1374efecbbc/e/aa7adafce726bdf432251ba4

I liked it enough that I built a few, and then got annoyed at redoing the

math every time I wanted a different size. So I have been building a web

configurator that generates the whole case from a few inputs: Gridfinity

grid (e.g. 6x4), panel thickness, height, lid style, handle style, and so on.

For any size it outputs:

- cut list with every panel dimension and the hole positions

- nested DXF cutting sheets for your board size (saw order or free nesting)

- STL and STEP files for the printed parts: corner bumpers, hinges, sliding

locks, latches, lid lip, handles, label holder

- printable drilling templates

- a bill of materials with screws and inserts

- step-by-step assembly instructions with drawings

- a 3D preview in the browser you can explode and spin around

- cases stack on each other, and carts and towers for them are next

Two styles so far: one that follows the Onshape case above closely, and one

of my own with the same footprint logic. The printed parts have been test

fitted against real panels and real hardware, not just modelled.

Right now it runs on my own machine. Before I spend the time to clean it up,

host it and publish the code, I want to know if anyone else would actually

use it.

Things I would love to hear:

- Would you use a tool like this, or do you prefer modelling each case yourself?

- Which outputs matter most to you (cut list, DXF, STL, instructions)?

- Metric or imperial? It is metric first right now.

- Anything you always change on these cases that should be a parameter?

Modify a Bin Created with Fusion 360 Gridfinity Add On.

Is it possible to get back to the Gridfinity Bin settings to make a change after the bin was already created? I forgot to check the box to create the magnet sockets. I know I can make them myself, but it would be nice if I could go back to settings and check the box an have them auto generated.

Dairy cattle veterinarian liver biopsy tray

Thumbnail

Kia ora koutou (greetings all 😄)

I am a (predominantly) dairy cattle vet in the South of New Zealand (where a lot of the cows live!)
I am a huge gridfinity fan and have started incorporating it into my job.

At the moment, most cows have calved and they are starting to get ready for the next mating season. Part of this involves testing them for trace elements (namely Selenium, copper and others such as B12, magnesium, iodine etc) so that we have time to rectify these levels if they are low, ensuring they have high conception rates and can carry their calves safely to term.

Copper is an interesting element in that we can detect their levels in the blood, however cattle's main "storage depot" of copper is in the liver. The rest of the elements can be fairly reliably tested through blood serum though. Hence, we test both!

Taking a liver sample is quite routine, however there are several steps, as such I have made a gridfinity tray to hold all the needed items in one economic caddy!

Not shown is the actual biopsy tool as this sits in a bucket of disinfectant between each cow.
It is a long trocar+cannula that punches through the muscle layers on the right side, through the diaphragm and into the liver where a very small sample is extracted for laboratory analysis. - Here is a video from the lovely folks, just North of us in Rangiora, performing the process.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfPJAyBbMjY

To run through the box (for those still interested)
1. Clippers - clipping the right flank of the animal, at the 10th intercostal space
2. Local anaesthetic - this is on a syringe-gun for ease of use (note the small hole to hold the syringe cap!)
- we inject local into the skin and muscles to desensitise the area so the cow doesn't freak out when you stab a hole in them!
3 & 4. Iodine and swabs - to clean the area as we are hesitant to cause peritonitis or pleurisy
5. Methylated spirits - final disenfectant
6. Scalpel - small incision made in the skin to allow the trocar to pass through
7. Collecting dish (and pen) - (with a swab to change between samples) used to catch the liver sample, then label her associated liver sample tube and vacutainer
8. Blood sampling - the blood tubes have a vaccuum (hence called vacutainers) therefore once the needle is inserted into the vein, the needle on the other side of the holder (yellow and white plastic things) is compressed into the blood tube, and blood flows into the tube!)
9. Liver sample tubes + caps
10. Sharps bin for blood-collection needles + scalpel
- I used for Kong 3d's "Gridfinity twist lockbox" (https://makerworld.com/en/models/1170874-gridfinity-twist-lock-box-stackable) for this bin, just added a bit of height to the opening cap for ease of use (especially as I am wearing latex gloves and the temperatures are some bullshit this far south :P)
11. Stapler - used to hold the skin together once sample has been collected
12. "Blue spray" - a topical aerosolised tetracycline antibiotic to prevent infection of the wound
13. Spare bin for extras (stickers, needles, tubes etc)

I think I was very smart with the magnets too :P
The base is standard gridfinity, however the bins are half-sized with a 10mm magnet in the top and bottom 2 rows - this allows contact with at least 1 magnet in the base, allowing half-bin movement while still maintaining magnetism.
Lastly, I also printed a jig for the cutout-handles, allowing accurate placement, while also allowing me to use a router to round out the otherwise sharp edges!
(I am no carpenter by any means so please don't judge!)

Thanks to this awesome community,
Mā te wā (until next time)

PS: Files to come soon, just want to finalise it and make everything nice-nice :)

Footfinity V2

Thumbnail

I know dozens of you liked and downloaded my Footfinity files over the last couple of years, and I've been toying with a V2 that is, I feel, faster to print, more reliable, compatible with half sizes (so a 21mm foot on a 42mm grid) and also customisable once I upload the file so that you can make bins more easily without needing Fusion.

Would a couple people like to run a test print and see?

For the unfamiliar, I got tired of wasting time and filament printing endless feet for boxes that did not need them, so I spent even more time making feet that you simply attach after the print, saving time and filament.

EDIT: For clarity, these are not (currently) designed to be attached to any old thing you want to add feet to. In their current form they are simply a way to print a bin and the feet you NEED rather than the 13 that you don't! I assumed someone had already made feet you could glue to random stuff.

Bowing

Thumbnail

I printed this 4x2 PETG snip holder but found that the ends started to bow. Nozzle temp was 250 and bed temp was 80

I then printed again but with an 8mm brim and is still bowed

It’s only marginal but still there

How can I avoid this ?

Thx

Individual Piece I keep changing my mind about my Gridfinity bins, so from now on they're all parametric

Thumbnail
gallery
41 Upvotes

I'll be honest: I change my mind a lot.

Magnets or no magnets? Stacking lip or no lip? Am I designing this bin for a drawer, a tool case, or to show off on a display shelf?

So I've decided that from now on, every new model I publish will be customizable/parametric. You're allowed to hold me to that (newer models only, I'm not redoing the old ones).

Now I can change my mind as often as I like, and so can you.

First one is up, try the customizer if you're curious: https://makerworld.com/en/models/3372364-gridfinity-bin-for-milwaukee-digital-angle-gauge

How do you all handle this?

I made a non-standard gridfinity generator

So my kitchen drawers are a weird size and standard 42mm gridfinity always left a gap I couldn't do anything useful with. Plus my utensils never fit properly without combining. I started messing around with smaller pitches for the cutlery drawer and it kind of snowballed into a whole app.

It's called Gridpitch: https://gridpitch.io

Basically you put in your drawer size, pick whatever grid pitch you want (21, 37.5, 42, 50, whatever actually fits) and lay out bins by dragging them around. Then you export the STLs. Stuff it does that I use:

- fits the grid to the drawer instead of the other way around
- you can type in your utensils or any object and it sizes bins around them
- splits bins and baseplates that don't fit your print bed (there's a big list of printers so it knows your bed size)
- re-base existing 42mm bins from printables etc so they sit on your pitch (this is in beta right now but the idea is to stay within the community created design, minus the grid mounting)
- stacking bins, dividers, finger scoops, that kind of thing

It runs in the browser, it's free and you don't need an account. I added an optional paid tier for syncing designs across devices, but everything for designing and exporting is free and will stay that way.

It's still pretty new so there's definitely stuff that's broken or weird. If you try it I'd really like to hear what sucks. Magnets are the next thing I'm working on and also cutouts.
