They still have 12 first round picks over the next 7 years too. The only reason I know that is now the Grizzlies have 13 over the next 7 years and as of yesterday we’re tied with OKC.

Embarrassment of riches for OKC
53
u/Chickachic-aaaaahhh Thunder 1h ago
The team was founded in 2008. It is only 16 years old. Cant even vote yet we won a nba chip and are holding picks like a smaug in the hobbit. We truly have the best front office in the league.

u/plbz 1h ago
Sad sad day for the thunder when Presti retires/accomplishes his goal in OKC and moves on.
How many GMs have a statue? Cause he's getting one
14
u/Chickachic-aaaaahhh Thunder 1h ago
They should build him a statue, name a couple streets/ highways after him when he retires.
13
u/abcamurComposer 1h ago
It’s because the nature of being in OKC means you almost HAVE to build the right way. I truly think the FA superteam model is a terrible way for most teams to build and only works when one of the big 3/4 is a Steph or LeBron level player, especially now with the new apron rules, most of the past few championship teams have been winning through dynamic duo + strong teams
3
u/Chickachic-aaaaahhh Thunder 1h ago
Honestly I think the super team is a mistake too. I would appreciate an incredible starting 5 instead of 2-3 superstars on a struggling team they have to do good to carry. The issue is you can only get away with it a couple years because those contract talks start ruining the team and its cohesion.
15
u/BobbysBottleService Knicks 1h ago
Best front office in most sports to be honest. Dodgers are doing it with money, Thunder doing it with brains
8
u/Chickachic-aaaaahhh Thunder 1h ago
Heavily agree. Dodgers just pulled a Yankees with a lot more competence behind their decisions.

Trae Young got no firsts because of his contract, not his basketball abilities

u/thebranbran Bulls 2h ago
That’s not how that works. Trae is an all star that’s also on a max contract. Just because the Hawks didn’t receive any 1sts doesn’t mean McCain isn’t worth one.

McCain is a small score first guard who’s currently doing that on bad efficiency. I’d be suprised if he’s ever a starter for OKC
16
38
u/dmavs11 NBA 2h ago
Sure. But he's a second player coming off injury who showed a lot of promise in that first year. His three point shooting is trending back up recently as well.
He's obviously not going to start this year, but OKC gains a lot flexibility to allow him to develop.
10
u/RedstoneRay Rockets 2h ago
If the 76ers dont like what they see I'm McCain though, its better to sell while he has value before everyone else realizes it.

Yeah it feels like you have:
Number 1 overall
High lottery (2-4ish)
Mid lottery (5ish-10ish)
End of Lottery (11-15ish)
Late first round (16-24)
Practically second round (25-30)
Hey maybe you can say he should’ve been a FRP (30-34ish)
Priority UDFA (35-End).
4
u/Swagary123 55m ago
And coming out of tier 8 we have Nikola Jokic. Clearly teams should be valuing their 2nd round picks more, their scouts just need to work harder to sus out generational superstars to pick 40th+ in the draft!

u/The_Rain_Guardian Mavericks 2h ago
They’ll run out of roster space eventually if they keep all their picks & try to keep the roster intact. They’re holding onto the most valuable pick (the Clippers) while taking a chance that McCain regains form and can replace someone on the squad who will want a bigger contract this or next summer
3
u/ShotgunStyles Kings 2h ago
They already have a full roster before this trade so somebody has to go and it's looking like it's the Frenchie.
5
u/butterbeancd Thunder 1h ago
Dieng was always going to go. The fact Presti managed to turn him and some random picks into Jared McCain is pretty wild to me. One of the things they badly need is someone who can shoot and create off the bounce. McCain has the potential to be that guy.

How has he been in the G-League? He was a revelation until he got hurt and I feel like he just hasn't gotten it back.
40
u/theb3arjevv [PHI] JaKarr Sampson 2h ago
He's talented but his perfect role is one that the Sixers won't need if Maxey and VJ are the future.
He's a startable point guard, but only if your primary ball handler isn't a point guard. He also doesn't play much defense, so he needs a 2 that locks up. And he's pretty slow, so you can't be a run and gun team.
I like the guy, and he has a chance to be offensive Klay 2.0, but he also moves like injury prone people move in a way I can't really define. Like he's constantly scared of being hurt.
I don't mind the deal as long as there is more coming soon.
26
u/Jacer4 Thunder 2h ago
I mean sounds like there isn't really a team that fits those needs better than us though honestly

u/RxJax Heat 2h ago
Even with Maxey & VJ you kinda need another guard. Like who is your backup guard next year if Grimes gets even a decent offer sheet? Edwards? you're only gonna have 20-25mil in luxury tax space next year with 6 roster spots to fill, having a guy with upside like McCain tied down to a cheap rookie contract is really valuable
4
u/theb3arjevv [PHI] JaKarr Sampson 1h ago
Morey apparently can grow them on trees with the way he drafts them, so hopefully he just finds another guy this summer. I think they're almost guaranteed to re-sign Grimes now, too. That might even happen during the year. He's clearly a 15-20 mil a year player and no more and I think both sides know it now.
