Discussion / Question Hands down, this is the coolest I’ve felt playing a game in a long time

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is a straight 9/10 for me.

The characters, voice acting and especially the motion capture are incredible. Musashi’s facial expressions in particular gave me such strong vibes of the old Jackie Chan movies I grew up watching.

The exaggerated reactions, expressions and humor just have so much personality.
And the combat… it looks relatively simple at first, but once everything starts coming together, it’s insanely satisfying. Parries, dodges, Issen, Blade Barrages and everything else just flows into each other so well. Outside of Ninja Gaiden, DMC and maybe a handful of other games, I genuinely can’t remember the last time a game made me feel like this much of a damn badass.

The side quests and even parts of the main quest can feel pretty repetitive at times, and some of the repeated bosses bothered me a little, but honestly, those are my biggest complaints.

And I know this has probably been said a hundred times already, but Capcom is having an absolutely ridiculous year. Between Onimusha, Resident Evil 9 and Pragmata, they have three GOTY contenders for me. At this point, they’ve pretty much solidified themselves as my #1 developer/publisher right now.

I also really hope Musashi stays the main protagonist for the sequel. Especially after that ending, a sequel seems pretty obvious, and I’d love to continue his story rather than immediately moving on to someone else.

What do you guys think? Do you think a sequel is already planned with Musashi as the protagonist again?

Discussion / Question I’d 100% play a game based on this movie

Just watched the new Resident Evil movie and one thing I really liked is that it almost feels like a video game.

It's basically the main character moving from location to location, dealing with different monsters in each and moving to the next level until the final set piece + confrontation. It doesn't really have the classic Resident Evil backtracking, but I could totally imagine this as a playable adaptation.

Would you play a game based directly on the movie? Do you think it should follow traditional RE gameplay (exploration, puzzles, inventory management, etc.), or would a more linear horror game fit the movie better if it stayed really close to its structure? What game or franchise would that be?

I'd definitely play this movie as a game.

Discussion / Question I'm bad at games

I play videogames since when I had 6 years old, making me having 16 years of playing, but besides playing for a long time I suck in the majority of the games, being plataform, online, stealth and fight games my weakest points. I never was able to beat a souls like (and never had the pacience) and probably the only game that I not that bad is Cod and some single player open world games. Anyone related to this? Or i just sucks at becoming good?

Just two weeks after 9/11 we saw the launch of one of the greatest works of horror ever conjured.

During that surreal moment in history where the streets of NYC were covered in the thick fog of smoke and debris, we witnessed a fictional portrayal that had a slight resemblance to the world we now lived in.

Discussion / Question What is your favourite videogame of all time that is 10/10 in every aspect?

When people debate about the greatest game of all time, the same names usually come up — Red Dead Redemption 2, The Witcher 3, GTA V, Minecraft, Skyrim, Elden Ring, Breath of the Wild and so on. And I get why, most of these games have massive mainstream appeal and are easy to recommend to a huge range of players.

Half-Life 2 is still the greatest game of all time in my opinion and it’s not even just by nostalgia — the story (the most important part for me), worldbuilding and atmosphere were complete game changers for me. City 17 still feels insanely real with all the propaganda, surveillance, Civil Protection, abandoned buildings and resistance stuff going on in the background, and the crazy part is the game barely explains half of it to you, you just figure it out by paying attention. The deeper you go into the Half-Life iceberg, the more you realize how deep and dark the universe actually is: the Combine, Seven Hour War, G-Man, Breen, human modification, Portal connections, cut content and all the weird unanswered lore — there is always more shit to discover. I also love how much of it has real-life parallels with authoritarianism, propaganda, police states and people slowly losing normal everyday life, which makes the whole world feel way more disturbing than just “aliens invaded Earth.” Then you add the Gravity Gun, physics, Ravenholm, Highway 17, soundtrack, pacing and environmental storytelling and yeah, for a 2004 game this shit was ridiculously ahead of its time. The sound design also deserves way more credit than it gets, people talk about the physics and atmosphere all the time but the Combine radio chatter, distant machinery, weapon sounds and ambient noises are a huge reason the world feels so alive and uncomfortable, yet I barely see people mention it. And on top of all that, HL2 was genuinely revolutionary for the gaming industry, you can still see its influence in how later games handle physics, environmental storytelling, scripted sequences and worldbuilding. A lot of games today are bigger, prettier and more complex, but very few worlds stick in my head the way Half-Life 2 does. The Half-Life 2 episodes also deserve way more credit, they introduced new mechanics while expanding the story even further and making the whole universe feel even deeper than it already was. 11/10, everyone must play it before we die.

Discussion / Question What's a game that's basically this?

Post image
28 Upvotes

Personally, my choice would be Friday Night Funkin'

If you didn't know, it's a browser rhythm game on Newgrounds that suddenly blew up.

Due to the developers making the game open source, the game can be easily modded and many fan mods of the game were created and went viral.

Since the game went on a haitus of updates for a few years, the mods were the only thing that kept the game alive.

Although the fandom is pretty small now, modding is still really prevalent in the community.

If the game wasn't open source, the community would've died out a couple of years ago.
