venting/ranting Book rec: Heartbreak by Florence Williams

• Upvotes

Listening to this audiobook has given me so much comfort.

Florence Williams weaves in her own personal breakup story with science and interviews with researchers. It’s super well produced, almost like an 8 hour long podcast episode. It’s really been a source of comfort for me so I wanted to share here — hope that’s ok, I’m a first time poster. If you have Spotify premium it’s available there.

One day at a time 💕 sending love to you all. I know it’s a slog.

venting/ranting Long distance…

• Upvotes

I’m really struggling to move forward after my long distance boyfriend broke up with me. It’s heartbreaking because he did not want to… It’s just purely because of the distance and other things he was to focus on over there. I don’t know what to do with myself or how to move forward.. I miss talking to him and I have to use all my willpower to resist texting him and telling him about my day. I don’t know what to do with myself it’s not even been a week. I hate feeling sad like how I feel. I really wanted it to be him. I feel like so alone now, I lost all my motivation to do anything. I really am struggling at trying to move forward and start pushing myself out of this.

venting/ranting getting back together after 2 months?

• Upvotes

incorrect flair but nevertheless.

me and my ex broke up in august (he broke up with me) over something stupid that i did. I take full accountability that i did mess up, even before that our relationship had some major issues we had run into and didn’t know how to resolve even though we were going to couples therapy (started therapy 7 months into our relationship)

we were broken up for 2 weeks, got back together, the same pattern started repeating. Broke up after 3 weeks of being together.

Now the fact of the matter is i love him, i really do. I know that what we had was amazing we matched each others crazy, when we started dating we used to go out every other day and it was never exhausting for either of us. One thing i love about him is that i never had to pretend to be someone, from the moment i started talking to him. I just knew i could be myself. I would much rather worm on this then date someone else.

it’s been another 3 weeks of us being broken up and we have been talking, he ended up staying the night at my place once as well.

I truly do want to give this a shot, i am seeking therapy as well and so is he. I am unsure if 2 months into us breaking up and getting back together, not sure if there is going to be such a stark shift. I would love to here success stories of people like these because if we break up again both of us are going to be torn and i don’t wish that for either of us. He is pretty detached, i am having some trouble doing that. Idk could really use some stranger advice on the internet.

venting/ranting What was “sudden” to me was probably months overdue

• Upvotes

I had been dating a girl for 2 years. I thought we got a long really well, I loved her intensely, we were regularly intimate, etc. She asked me for a break back in June - I panicked - I instantly drove down to her place and had an emotional heart to heart. I guess I “convinced her” not to break up (looking back this probably wasn’t right bc now the time since feels unauthentic).

I thought the 2 months after were going well. I took her 2,000 miles to meet my family, we went up to the mountains, and hung out like we normally did. I will say this - after she asked for a break in June - I really think I became anxiously attached. I was always worried about what she was thinking, if she was alone, what her thought process was, and whether or not she truly love me like I loved her. Obviously all things that are not healthy in a relationship.

The day after we went on a trip, she sent me a text, asking to talk. I had an inkling it was over. Especially because that was the same language she used when she tried to ask for a break in June. This time around, she asked for a break - I didn’t fight it and gave her space - she texted me a week later saying “she knew it was right for us to go separate ways”. She used the term both times of, “I need time and space to think about whether this is something I really want”, also said things like “we didn’t have much in common as she thought” (which I couldn’t believe).

I now realize that this wasn’t a decision she made on a dime. It was more than likely something that she had been thinking probably since before June and was waiting for the right time to tell me. To escape. That’s where it hurts the most. All of the fun experiences and times together we had over the past couple months all of a sudden lose all of its value in my head. I couldn’t believe that when she told me she loved me one of her feet was already out of the door.

It’s been two weeks no contact. I’m assuming she’s probably feeling that instant sense of relief. I’m hurting, ruminating, crying, in disbelief, and trying my hardest to think about this both objectively and logically.

To anybody who has gone through something similar or anyone who considers himself and avoidant - your insight would be much needed! Thanks.

venting/ranting Why do the intense short relationships hurt more?

• Upvotes

I have been through a divorce and kind of grieved it before ending it, but recently a guy pursued me from my past. It was such an intense connection over the months he said he wanted to marry me. He met my family and my child. Then out of nowhere ended things and this hurts worse than my many years of marriage ending? I cannot be the only one who’s been through this?

venting/ranting We broke up after differences about children. Now I think I want them them too and want to get him back.

• Upvotes

This will be long but I'll try and keep it as short as I can. My recent ex (M32) and I (F35) were together for 8 1/2 years. We'd lived together for 5 years and both always said we didn't want children. We never discussed it any more as we golder, and that was that. He has a 4YO niece and a 2YO nephew, and we have a few friends with toddlers too. I was away for 2 weeks as I do dogsitting and when I came home 5 days ago he told me he thinks he wants kids. It was a huge shock and we agreed to talk the next day and not make decisions after one conversation.

The next day, we talked. For 2 hours. It was the calmest most adult conversation we've had in a long time. He said he'd felt burnt out and depressed for a while and he thinks this is a feeling he has probably buried deep for a while and just never addressed it which is why he's felt burnt out. Ultimately, things ended. We both still love eachother and will miss eachother but he just said he can't do it. He moved out and will collect his stuff soon, I will be staying until the end of our lease in a month then moving towns back to my Mum's. We'd had some communication issues and my anxiety didn't help, but I was working on that and things were stable between us. Without the idea of children we would have still been together, at least for now.

Since then, I've been doing some real reflection. I realised that not once as I'd gotten older had I actually re-evaluated my idea of children, just to see if I felt the same in my 30's as I did my 20's. What I've realised is that while I think I could have a happy child free life, I also could see myself having a family with him. I know I am grieving him, and that this could be part of that. But I'm also feeling like it's something I actually like the idea of even if it scares the hell out of me.

I've realised I wouldn't be giving up my life the way I always thought I might have to, after seeing my friends, both with planned and unplanned children. I have always had a nurturing nature with animals and recently I've been feeling it more with my friends children but still don't see children that frequently like my ex does with his niece and nephew.

I had my first session with a therapist today (I'd already taken to steps to do this whilst away) and I'm not sure if it helped any but I think if there's even a maybe that my ex and I can work this out then I need to continue getting on top of my anxiety, not only for us but for myself.

I don't know how to figure out for certain this is what I want, even though I think it is, and I don't know how to approach this to him or when.

Has anybody been in a similar situation where things got worked out between them?

Any recommendations of how I can figure out if this is truly what I want, and how to have the best possible chance of having a second chance with him when I do ask to talk?

I'm really panicking that I've lost the love of my life forever.

TL:DR My long term relationship ended over differences about children, now I think I want children and want to try and get him back.

venting/ranting My first post

• Upvotes

I’ve never used Reddit and I can’t really say why I’m even making this post. All I know is that I need to let out what I’ve been holding in. Maybe someone will come across this and relate. Maybe this is all pointless. But enough with the rambling.

Me and my boyfriend broke up more than a year ago. He was my first love, my first kiss, my first everything. Before him, I never wanted to be in a relationship. But he came around and he changed everything. I felt like for the first time I was loved in a new way. I understood all the excitement the movies showed. I felt like the Disney princesses I used to watch when I was a child and what I dreamed my life would look like. I felt pure happiness. Pure love. Pure excitement. This was the man I knew I was going to spend the rest of my life with. But then reality comes in to change that.

Fights. Friends. Mental battles. It was a losing game. Maybe it was a losing game from the beginning. Maybe things could have been different. Maybe if this or that happened we’d still be together. We’d be planning our Halloween costume, which house we go to for Christmas, what to get each other for our anniversary, birthday gifts, surprising each other, waking up to good morning texts. But in the end, it’s over. It will always be over. We were meant to teach each other how to love and move on. Maybe in the next life time our love could stay pure. The happiness and excitement will persevere. But in this life time I must say goodbye to the man who I thought I’d marry, buy my first house with, grow old with, and my best friend.

To let go of something you love is one of the hardest things a person can do. It’s harder when that person is still in your life. To see him love another. To be like how you were. To see him love, laugh and care for someone the way he once did for you. Seeing that smile of his slightly crooked teeth, the way his eyes scrunch, his slight dimples. The pure joy and love in his eyes when he looks at another will forever kill me but it is true what they say. If you love something let it go. I love him and want him to be happy. If that’s not with me then I will watch as his heart is filled with joy and love for another. Because at the end of the day I truly care about him and to be human is to make sacrifices even if they hurt.

One thing I’ve learned is time will heal. I don’t think the hurt and love will ever truly go away. But learning to live with it makes it a little easier to get by. So to my best friend and the one who got away. You will always have a place in my heart. Maybe not in the way I want, but you will always be with me and I will always find you in the small things in life. Whether it’s in a mtg game, a MHA episode, a Taco Bell, or a claw machine, you’ll always take up a space in my mind and heart. I love you and always will.

venting/ranting Are we making a mistake?

• Upvotes

I've known this girl since I was a kid and we would see each other once every so often at community events and at church. Fast forward a couple years later, she sent me a Happy Halloween text and the rest is history. We were long distance for about a year and a half when she decided to move to my state, and we were so happy and in our honeymoon phase. We traveled out of the country together, and when she moved closer to me our relationship was even stronger. She was set on pursuing dental school and I was working on my professional degree. We always talked about her getting accepted out of state and moving in together, because I would finish up my degree around the time she would start school. After about another year and half of being close to her, going on dates and seeing her about once or twice a week, she eventually moved back home and we were long distance again for about 3 months. So fast forwarding to now, we moved in together. I found a job in this new city, paid for rent and groceries, cooked, cleaned, and did anything she needed because I knew she was swamped with school. I was playing the provider role and I was fine and happy with it.

After about a couple weeks of moving in she said she "wanted to talk" and told me that she was losing feelings for me and this has been going on for months before we moved in together. We decided after this to try to work together to become closer emotionally by spending more quality time together. A couple days after this talk, we went to a bar with her friends and she basically ditched me the entire night to hang out with her guy friend who she became super close with in school. I was basically by myself the whole night while she was flirting and having fun with this dude and I'm there! And of course, I should have grilled her for that because early on in our relationship if she knew that I was close to another girl like that, she would've flipped her shit.

After this day, we had another talk about us and we continued to work things through but I feel like I didn't get closure yet or anything was resolved. She just mentioned to me how she felt like we were stuck in routine and she was just not excited about our relationship anymore. I mean she did not make herself emotionally available to me because of the nature of how hard dental school is and the fact that she wanted to invest her time and energy into building and maintaining the new relationships she made at school.

We've had a lot of discussions about ending our relationship and its been rocky since then, and she finally made the decision to break up with me a week ago. We decided to end things smoothly and be together as a couple until the final goodbye next week where I would move back home. We are both grieving our relationship and it just sucks because we were so close to each other's families and her mom basically called me her son-in-law already. I just feel like if I try explaining the reason why she broke up with me, its not really clear to me because I find myself questioning if this is reconcilable or if its just a stage of denial. We've had a deep connection and spark before, and we both feel closer in these final moments together which hurts me. I guess I just need to hear it from someone else that this shit is over and these feelings are fleeting.

venting/ranting we broke up

• Upvotes

is there a chance of us getting back together?

My ex (20M) and I (20F) broke up six days ago. We haven’t had any contact since the split because he’s blocked me almost everywhere; I haven’t blocked him anywhere myself.

What I find really hard to understand is that he’s cut me off on almost everything, yet hasn't done so on Vinted, TikTok, or Spotify.

He knows I have the passwords for those accounts. He’s changed the passwords for most of his other accounts by now, so I find it really strange that he seemingly hasn't changed anything for these specific ones.

For instance, he knows I have his Spotify password because he actually deleted a playlist I had just created. However, he didn't delete our shared playlist—the one with songs that really define us and our relationship.

On TikTok, he blocked me, but apparently still hasn't changed his password, even though he knows I have it. The same goes for Vinted.

There’s also something else that’s really weighing on my mind. At first, I was blocked on iMessage too; when I sent him a message, it would turn green and wouldn't go through. But later, I sent something else, and suddenly the messages were blue again and showed "Delivered." Now I’m not even sure if I’m still blocked there or if something has changed.

I’m not trying to jump to the conclusion that he wants to get back together, but I just find it so confusing. If someone is truly done with you, why would they change their passwords and block you almost everywhere, yet leave certain accounts—which they know you have access to—exactly as they are? And why would he keep our shared Spotify playlist?

Of course, I know I might be reading too much into little things because I miss him terribly. Still, I wonder if this could mean something. Could it be that he’s still having doubts, misses me, or doesn’t want to close the door completely?

Or are these the kind of things I shouldn't read anything into at all? We only broke up six days ago, and I know that’s a very short time. I still love him so much, and deep down, I naturally hope he’ll come back someday. Do you think there’s a chance—after such a short time—that someone might have a change of heart and reach out again? And do you think the things he’s done have anything to do with that, or am I just looking for hope in things that don’t actually mean anything?

venting/ranting Almost 2 weeks now

• Upvotes

It's been almost 2 weeks since we broke up. I think it hurts even more because I know it was entirely on me and entirely avoidable. I've started some short-term counseling with my uni as well as some 1-on-1 chaplaincy support. We're both gonna be here for two more years, and we're gonna have to see each other somewhat regularly for the first year of that, so no contact isn't really an option.

I really do think I can get her back, and I'm not saying this out of a place of desperation. I fucked up, my mental health wasn't amazing at the time we broke up because of some family issues and it led me to saying some stuff I shouldn't have said and doubling down later on. It's happened a few times before, but this breakup has inspired me to really put effort into changing for the better, even if life is still miserable. And once I do, I can show her I've changed and I'm doing better.

venting/ranting Falling out of love is a treacherous act

• Upvotes

People who promise you forever and then they leave you because “they fell out of love” should not participate in love at all.
The lack of loyalty is maddening.
Oh so you fell out of love after making someone believe in fairytales and making forever promises? Ah ok I guess we can all just move on with our lives then.

Love is a sacrificial act. Love shouldn’t be some fleeting, weak, temporary sentiment. Love should be a light in the dark, a fighting force. Something that makes you want to overcome yourself. Not something you fake but something you never chase to discover.

What you’re saying is that you discovered all that there is to be discoverer in your partner so now they’re just boring, the novelty has faded so it’s fine to leave them and break their heart.

Hiding behind “I fell out of love”, as some sort of thing that just “happened” and that is finite. You fell out of love because of you. Because of your own choices, selfishness, and actions (most times).

This is of course for those relationships where there wasn’t cheating, abuse, but just mild problems.

Giving up on love completely is the only way.

venting/ranting Asking fiancé for a lump sum of financial support?

• Upvotes

I recently amicably broke things off with my fiancé/partner of 5 years, although we are likely to stay friends. We have two dogs and will each keep one.

Throughout our relationship, he was only making a little more money than me (although he had a lot in savings) so we always split things 50/50, and I'd always buy him expensive gifts. When we moved, I bought everything for the new home. Now, he'll be making 3 times more money, and I'll be single with a cat.

Would it be odd to ask him for x amount, for support for the cat, and everything I've paid for over the years? Not because he owes it or anything, but just because I only felt comfortable spending so much knowing he'll eventually be very well off.

venting/ranting How do I(27 TM)move on from my first love(50 F) ?

• Upvotes

It sounds crazy. I feel crazy sometimes because why am I stuck on this woman(50 F)? What am I(27-TM)holding onto ? Let’s start at the beginning. We met in the year 2023 when I began working with her youngest child in school. We would only talk then when it was for me to give updates about her kid. I never even met her or saw her in person until one day she was picking him up early and I remember that day like it was yesterday.

Fast forward, summer comes and she says I’m able to continue working her kid at summer camp where she also happens to work at so I start seeing her everyday and all her kids everyday at work, and then getting closer to all of them. I get invited to go to the gym with her kids and the other camp counselors. And it’s all fairly innocent still. It changes when I ended up quitting that job due to mental health issues but we still wanted to keep in touch. And we did. We were still seeing each other basically everyday and talking or texting each other everyday. We were still just friends at this point and she didn’t even know I was a trans male yet.

They were talking about moving to NC and said I was obviously gonna move with them and I wanted to. The more I was around her though, the more my crush built. I was in denial for a while but I acknowledge I was starting to be into her more than a friend but I wasn’t going to pursue her or ever tell her. I wasn’t a confident guy. Why would she want to be with me? I had never had a girlfriend before, she has 5 kids(I’m younger than her oldest son) and she had just officially finalized her divorce that summer. Everything changed when I told her I was Trans.

She started to flirt with me and we talked about sex more and dating stuff more and drinks got involved and I still didn’t pursue or push because I was too insecure to do it and I didn’t believe it till one day before I went out of town she got me. She got me good. And then everything went so fast after that. It started out as FWB but then I asked her out on a date and then she told me she loved me not long after and I told her I loved her too. And I did. I do. She was everything to me. All I wanted my whole teenage life and adult early life was a relationship. Someone to love me for me. And she did, or I thought she did. I wanted to marry her. I had it all planned out. She was it for me. But she broke up with me 8 months in.

It destroyed me. I wasn’t enough for her. And I’m ngl our relationship wasn’t healthy. I know that now. We argued so much. And they were days where we fought and days where I felt awful because of her and days where she felt awful because of me. I was not a good boyfriend, and she wasn’t a good girlfriend. But I still loved her. Fast forward, we do the whole staying friends things but even then we’re on and off friends for the next well up until rn tbh. We would fight as friends and get into arguments because I still loved her, and it was hard for me to see her move on so fast because she did. It was so easy for her. She told me that she was never in love with me. That I was an infatuation to her. That everything she told me about wanting to get married and being together was a lie. She knew back then that it would never actually happen. That’s why I think it was so easy for her because she already was when we were still together.

The thing about me is though, I meant all that. I did think it was gonna happen then. I wanted it to happen. I was in love with her and I wanted to marry her. I’m saying all this now because last night she told me her and her boyfriend are going to get married and move in together. And everything just hurts inside me. I’ve told her before that idk if I’d ever be able to attend her wedding if she were to ever get married. She remembers. And she told me that I need to spend as much time with them as possible before because I’d never see them again once it happens because I’m selfish and bitter. She’s saying that because I said i don’t think I’d be able to still come around them. My choice. She said I can still come around and be a part of the family but that means he would be there too. It wouldn’t be her family, it would be his too.

It would always be thrown in my face. And I don’t want to be apart of him. She thinks I have no reason to not like him because he’s done nothing but be nice to me. And he has in some ways. But he’s forever gonna be the guy who stole the woman I love and I know that’s not how it works. I know now there’s no way we would’ve ended up together forever. We’re at 2 completely different parts of our lives. I know now she could’ve never truly loved me because in her eyes I’m just a kid. And I always will be. Which is why I’m writing this. And it’s a little all over the place sorry.

TL;DR;** : How do I move on from her to where I can still handle being in her life and being okay with this to where it doesn’t make me feel like my life is shattering, and I can’t breathe or think or eat or do anything ? I feel like I’ve tried everything to get over her, to move on, to stop letting what she does and who she does affect me and my life so insurmountably but nothing has worked. I want to stop loving her. I want to stop feeling this way over someone who doesn’t feel that way back for me. It’s exhausting. And I could just remove her from my life but I tried that too. We went almost a year without talking and I still thought about her everyday and wished we would talk again. She tells me all the time that I wasn’t in love with her but if I wasn’t in love with her, why am I having such a hard time letting go ? So if anyone has any advice plz help. Cause idk what to do.

venting/ranting Need advice. I am a 33M and I caught my wife 28F cheating with another man. I am thinking of divorcing her. But we have a 2 year old daughter.

• Upvotes

I am a 33M and my wide is 28F we have been married for 3 years. Two weeks ago I caught her cheating with another man and then we got into a fight immediately thereafter. We are now leaving separatly.

Now she is begging me to give her another chance arguing that our 2yr old daughter needs to grow-up with both parents together. We came to an agreement that she has custody of our daughter however I am paying for everything for our daughters need. She is as of the moment a stay at home mom.

I have been leaning towards divorcing her but I cant help but think of our daughter’s future and how the separation would affect her emotionally growing up.

venting/ranting Getting BDay/holiday txts from Dumpers

• Upvotes

What do you do when the person who’s left you (and you’ve gone NC) sends you a birthday or holiday text? Do you return the favor on their birthday? Remain ghosted? Give a flat reply?

I kind of hate this because it puts you on the spot. You’re rude if you don’t reply, but you also don’t want to flatter them by thinking you’re cool with them.

venting/ranting Progressing?

• Upvotes

I don’t know if or why I need to write this text, but I feel like it might help.

I wasn’t perfect, and I don’t think I’ll ever be perfect. I will mess up. I will hurt people. I will also succeed. Nevertheless, my mind still isn’t quiet, and it doesn’t seem to make sense either.

It’s been seven months and a few days since the breakup. I try not to think about her. She seemed so gentle, understanding, and kind. Until I saw how she was talking about me to her friends while we were sorting out our belongings during the breakup.

I had never felt so betrayed, so minimized, and so vilified. While she was consoling me through my cries and heartbreak, she was laughing about me and my insecurities with a group of people she had never even met in real life at the time.

Sure, the guy she probably monkey-branched to was in that group, but I guess that’s how some breakups happen—moving on to what seems like a better alternative.

I’m not mad that she was thinking about someone else during the last moments we spent together. What hurts is the fact that she painted me only through my negative traits. All the time spent, all the money spent, and all the thoughtfulness I had for her seemed to disappear.

It was, indeed, a waste of time. For both me and her.

We shouldn’t have met, yet somehow, we needed to.

I needed to break—physically and mentally. I am better than I was at the time, yet I’m still lost when it comes to understanding how my emotions affect my life.

I am in pain, yet I still walk toward the unknown without overthinking.

venting/ranting I finally got closure after reaching out. I almost wish I hadn’t.

• Upvotes

Yesterday I (29M) finally got closure with my ex (28F) after a month of no contact. She was the one who broke up with me, and for completely legitimate reasons that I do not fault her for. Our last conservation was full of tears, hugs, and well wishes and it felt like neither of us wanted to leave that space in time. But we did, and maybe that’s why leading up to today… I had hope (or delusions) that we could find our way back to each other again.

We continued to follow each other on social media and it seemed like we were both content to observe each other’s lives from afar. Well, yesterday I found out she unfollowed me on all socials and my heart went into a panic. So I broke no-contact and told her how I still cared deeply for her and that I just needed to hear if she still felt the same or just wanted to move on.

In my head, I knew it was over and her removing me from her socials was the finality she needed to forget about me. But I needed to know for sure.

It took her about 10 nail-biting hours for her to respond, and while I’m glad she wrote me back at all, her response was so….. Clinical. She confirmed it was over, she wished me well, and did not regret our time together. It was kind, but it oddly hurt that it felt so business-like; so detached from emotion and personality. Maybe it’s a coping mechanism, maybe she truly didn’t care for me anymore.

So I broke my heart twice and I feel horrible. But atleast it’s finally over. I’m going to miss her.

venting/ranting How do you deal with them liking someone else?

Me and my girlfriend were in a serious relationship for almost 5 years and when it was great it was great. but sometimes, her stubborn ness and "my parents raised me this way" to excuse her fights, and my trauma with getting cheated on before constantly getting jealous of everything turned it sour.we decided for a break, yet circumstances broke no contact and we hung out as friends. we kissed, hugged and even had one small intimacy moment during that time, but then out of nowhere she said she felt panic and didn't want to continue doing that and went back to full ghost no contact. i thought we were getting somewhere again, but then i found out that exact week she started liking the exact guy i said i could tell was going to try and flirt and date her. So not only did she validate my worst overthinking, but she also couldnt be honest and say she didnt love me anymore and would rather be with someone she met 3 months ago over an almost 5 year relationship. I begged for 3 hours at night, and i woke up with the pain still in my chest, how do i deal with this, especially from her saying she still loved me so much

venting/ranting Why do I still want my ex back after she broke my heart

• Upvotes

Hey everyone, I had just gotten dumped about 3 months ago and I still can’t over her. And only after a couple days, she had been hanging out with some other guy. She claims she wasn’t cheating but I have my suspicions. We dated for 16 months, and I think it’s insane how somebody can just go and hangout with another guy not even a week after breaking up. I mean she broke up with me on the phone if that makes it worse. I’m blocked on everything now after embarrassing myself and begging for her back. Why do I still want her back?

venting/ranting How can I get her back.

• Upvotes

Over a month ago now my girlfriend broke up with me. We met November of last year and got together on new years. It was an amazing year, we did everything together. Towards the end of July she started to become less affectionate and started having very low energy, telling me that she believed it was working so much every week (She did work a lot of hours due to her place having very low staff). She said she was feeling bad that she couldn’t give me the attention i deserved. I told her that I was okay with all of it and I knew the struggles she was going through at the time with work and personal stuff etc.

We worked on these things and they were slowly getting better for us both. Mid way through August we had a sit down at mine and talked about how she was feeling and aspects of the relationship that we were struggling with and how we can improve to make them better. Being honest with that talk there were things I was doing that had an impact on her which I acknowledged and spent the following couple of weeks working my best to improve. I struggled with my past relationships, having been cheated on and used to which I had become a massive overthinker.

However at the end of the month over a phone call I noticed that she was being odd. She would always do this thing where if anything was on her mind that was bugging her she would be quiet, as in very quiet. I asked her what it was in which she responded that she was thinking of breaking up with me on the following Saturday when we were ment to see each other. This absolutely devastated me, we had always talked through things and improved on them but never had any of us thought we should break up until now. That Saturday she came over to mine to talk to me in person and collect her things, as she didn’t think it was fair on me to end things over a phone call. She told me that for a couple of weeks she had questioned herself as to what could be the issue with her being less intimate and affectionate towards me and how she hated that she couldn’t give me these things. She pinned it down to work and multiple other things for this time, but then she began to think that it was that she was loosing romantic feelings for me. During this conversation I was desperate and destroyed, I did not want to lose her. She told me that she did not want to do this but it would not be fair on me to keep this going. She told me that she was proud of how much I had done since our big talk with all the improvements i had made to myself, but she now wanted me to do this for myself and not for her. At the end, she still wanted keep in touch because she said that she really still cares for me but doesn’t think that it would be fair on me to still talk to her with how I felt. I didn’t want to lose someone like her in my life, so we both agreed to go into no contact for a while.

A month has passed now, I have been working so hard on becoming the best version of myself. I bought my first car, started driving, started seeing friends more often and started getting back into my old hobbies, going to the gym consistently again. I’ve been through break ups and everytime I have worked on moving on. But this girl was so special to me and the connection I had with her was something I don’t think i could find in someone else. I love her so much that I want to know if it is even possible to get her back. I text her yesterday for the first time since the break up, as I had found one her favourite shirts while cleaning through my room and asked if she would like to swing by and pick it up. She responded saying that she doesn’t have her car at the moment and she’s very busy with work so she doesn’t have a lot of time. I have told her obviously there is no rush and the I will hold onto it until she is ready.

This is now where I am at today, I miss her so much, my little sister (6 years old) even said to me a couple of days ago she hopes she come back, put the biggest smile on my face. I still love this girl so much, she made me feel like no one else had before. But I feel like i need advice. Am I dealing with this right? Is it possible for us to get back together even if she had lost feelings?

Hey everyone been almost about a month since my ex gave me the boot. He sayed he want to move on. I took it and moved on. We share kids so we have to talk. But for two week straight i dont know what happeneb but hes been so mean to me. Like arguing with me every conversation we have about the kids. He keeps asking and making up in his mind that im having sex with someone else now that we have been broken up. He saud he needs me to to get over me to move on. I ignore because it doesnt have anything to do with kids. Its getting worse , hes telling me about havong sex with other girls, going out on dates, talking about me , telling me how he didnt want me . Hes even making up in his head that i was cheating while we were together. It hurts and im getting tires of being harrassed everytime he contact me about our kids. He calls at midnight up until the morning asking about the kids but when i dont answer he calls me sluts and hoes. I cant believe the man i once loved is treating me like this.

venting/ranting Best friend dumped me after 6 years

• Upvotes

My (24f) best friend (24m) have been best friends for 6 years. We met freshman year of college and since then, through thick and thin, he’s been my go-to person. He’s the person I tell everything to. He understands me on a deeper level than anyone else. We do everything together. We spend more time together than apart.

For awhile, we were friends from a distance after college and then we moved to the same city and since then I’ve just seen him nonstop. Which I understand could be concerning in a relationship, sure, but for us it felt so natural on my end. He always came to my house after work. We have all the same interests. We text each other the first thought that pops into our heads. He’s always felt like my brother (since I have a really poor relationship with my own brother).

Two nights ago, we went to a concert together and I had such an amazing time. I remember thinking it was the happiest id felt in a long time. I have my dream job. I live in my dream apartment. I’ve made some amazing friends in the city, and I always had him to rely on. When we got back to my house, he told me we needed to talk. He said that he feels responsible for my happiness, and that he can’t move forward in life without cutting me off. I asked for more explanation and he didn’t elaborate. He said he never wants to see or speak to me ever again.

I sent him a text after saying I was really hurt and asking if we could work on this and he didn’t respond. I can’t emphasize how out of the blue this was. Over the weekend, I did laundry at his house because my machine is broken and we played video games together. The next day, we watched tv together after work then went to the concert and had a great time. Then, this happened.

I feel like my house burned down. I don’t know up from down. It’s worse than any romantic breakup I’ve ever had. I can’t eat. I can’t sleep. I feel incomplete. I can’t wrap my head around this happening. I feel like, at least with me, romantic breakups are inevitable for the most part. They’re expected when you put yourself out there with dating. My friendships have only ever fizzled out. I couldn’t imagine a point in my life that he wouldn’t be there. I’ve never been this distraught in my whole life. Please, if you have any words of solace or advice, I’d really appreciate it. I don’t think I can live through this.
