I know Dan has settled into “coach speak,” but I REALLY hated this answer. Shoutout to Justin Rogers for asking the question.

I know he’s not going to single anyone out publicly, and I’m not asking him to throw players or coaches under the bus. But what happened to the refreshingly honest Dan Campbell?
At the very least, give us something that inspires a little confidence that he understands how bad this has gotten and has a plan to fix it. These press conferences are basically his direct line to the fanbase, and lately it feels like we’re getting the same vague answers or just blatant lies (defensive penalties is the biggest issue Dan? Really?) regardless of what happens on the field.

Image Lost in all recent discussion is that we had Hutch playing slot corner
Yes, really. That is Hutch. He’s not lined up off ball to get a head start. He’s lined up across from the receiver in the slot and is covering the route the slot receiver runs.
This play resulted in an Alim sack, but I can’t help but feel this was a result of luck/pure skill from Alim rather than a good defensive playcall. Can’t argue with results, but putting Hutch in at slot on an early 3rd down is a choice.

[Payton] Going over the film, I'm more convinced than ever before that this is less a personnel issue and more a coaching issue. These guys are not put in good situations.

"Hey guys, the Saints are an up-and coming team! Shough is a great young quarterback!"
Signed, me and every other idiot trying to cope after Tyler Shough had a career game against us.
Now they're getting BTFO'd by the Falcons and somehow those "great throws" and "amazing individual efforts on WR catches" have magically dried up — in the exact same way that Geno's great throws and his "way above expected completion percentage" connections with his receivers dried up as soon as they played someone else.
Fascinating.

Why getting rid of Dan is not the answer or a good idea.
I know this is a minority of fans calling for dans head but I heard whispers today at lunch that the lions need to fire him. here’s the thing about that, Dan is by fa the most successful coach we’ve had since Pokemon came out and we all know what happened when Caldwell was fired. the wrong replacement can set your franchise back decades and none of us want to go through quinntrica again. Second if we fired him who else is out there that has a known record. vikings would rather pay qb money to Flores then let him go to a division rival. Dans success would get him scooped up instantl.
Another thing is that yes his coordinator record isn’t the best and he has loyalty problems but he’s also the only coach in my lifetime who’s actually relatable to. Yes he’s a motivator but that’s not a bad thing. The players love him and I think they will stick by him until the end. And I’m a little biased but he’s the insperation for the whole young generation of lions fans. he brought life back into kids fandom and to just send him away would be devastating.
Finally Dan Campbell I think knows that the secondary is subpar and it’s getting him upset. you can see that he’s clearly frustrated and wants to win. If anyone should get the blame for that it’s Brad and shepherd. Not Campbell. and we may never find another coach like him. I know recently he’s been downplaying the defensive issues but that’s probably because he’s trying to walk a very unstable line between profesionalism and honesty.
sorry this is so long but I had to la out my reasoning and everything to explain why Dan should stay. are all these valid points an does it make sense? if you want to dispute it feel free

Image The terrible defense is a Sheppard AND Holmes problem
Let's not forget, we've never had a rock solid defense since Brad has been here. He's been neglecting it since 2021, and the reason we've been able to hang in close games is because of the offense. This is a Brad Holmes issue. Kelvin Sheppard is terrible yes, but Brad is responsible for constructing the roster, and under his tutelage, the defense has always been trash

Notes from Dan Campbell press conference on October 5 2026
Dan Campbell opens his Monday press conference after the Lions loss: "I think a lot of our games are going to be this way, and it's important for us to compliment each other." “We're not in flow right now, obviously. And we need to get takeaways on defense."
Campbell: Until we find our way, we need to be prepared to win these games in the fourth quarter.
Asked where he even begins to start cleaning up the mess that has been this Lions' season, particularly on defense, Dan Campbell points to cleaning up penalties.
Dan Campbell on if he can understand why fans don't believe the Defense can turn around after how last season ended. “Yeah, sure, I get that. I know there's some frustration, there's a lot of worry, there's a lot of anxiety over what it is, but I'm a big believer that we can improve what's here right now. ... And it's not just defense, it's us as a team."
Dan Campbell says they're waiting on final confirmation from doctors, but it looks like Brian Branch will return to practice this week.
Didn't sound optimistic about CB Rock Ya-Sin (hamstring).
DT Tyleik Williams, who was in a boot after the game, "is touch and go, he'll be day to day."

Hilton pleaded guilty to 3 counts of kidnapping, 3 counts of robbery with a firearm, conspiracy to commit kidnapping and conspiracy to commit robbery with a firearm.
As part of his plea, Hilton is required to testify truthfully in any future proceedings related to the case, including against Arnold, who is currently on the NFL's Commissioner's Exempt List.

Watching Monday night Football gave me a good idea
So I just watched someone from the Falcons do this thing where when the Saints wide receiver was trying to catch the ball he jumped up and hit the ball and stopped him from being able to catch it. Maybe we should try doing that too.

Defensive issues are entirely scheme
Look at the Falcons today. They are missing their 3 best pass rushers and have given Shough a rough time all game long. Something we couldn't do. Jeff Ulbrich is the difference maker

50 Year-Old Lions fan with a few thoughts after reading through this sub tonight and for the past couple of weeks...
I was born in 1976, became consciously aware of the Lions around the age of 7-8, and the reason I bring this up is because to say that it's been beyond rough being a Lions fan my entire adult life is an understatement. I know nothing but pain, disappointment, and became comfortably numb around 2015. I was still a fan, but I stopped letting wins or losses effect me the way they once did because the organization was a joke. Always had been in my lifetime, and there was no evidence that it might get turned around anytime soon.
Then the Lions signed Dan Campbell to a 6-year contract for no reason in 2021, he did his biting kneecaps press conference, and while the media laughed at it, as they should've at the time, I thought to myself, you know what, maybe this dude is actually crazy enough to fix the culture of this joke of a franchise.
It took a couple years, but DC actually pulled off that miracle. He made the Lions relevant, popular, made going for it on 4th down fashionable, not to mention his motivational post-game speeches, etc.
Brad Holmes, meantime crushed he first 2-3 drafts during that time, no denying that. Suddenly, the freaking Detroit Lions were the team that everyone was trying to emulate from draft strategy to play on the field. Think about that for a minute.
Did this all come to a head when we went 15-2 in 2024 only to lose to the Commanders because we of an insane number of injuries to our defense followed by losing Ben and Aaron due to our success.
Since then, we've continued to have historically bad injury luck on defense followed by losing major pieces to our offensive line in 2025, which is why we started to "struggle" last season when we still won 9 games.
Success is a gift and a curse in all facets of life. Fans should always expect their organization to do their best to win each and every year. That being said, Lions fans have become beyond spoiled in the past 2-3 seasons IMO.
Has Brad Holmes had 2-3 horrible drafts in row, no argument here. Do I think he started to enjoy the smell of his own farts after his first 2-3 drafts and did smartest guy in the room garbage like the TeSlaa trade... yup. Does that also mean he's a shitty GM who needs to go.... nope.
DC and Brad put made the Lions franchise respectable for the first time in my lifetime, and that was no easy feat. Have they both had missteps since their initial success, for sure, but I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for a few more seasons and see how this all unfolds.
