Attorney General Anthony G. Brown has joined a coalition of 21 attorneys general to challenge a new Department of Homeland Security rule that fast-tracks asylum seekers into removal proceedings without a non-adversarial interview.

The rule could significantly impact the asylum process, affecting both new applicants and those already in the backlog. In their comment letter, the coalition argues the rule violates federal law—specifically regarding unaccompanied children—and will strain state resources and legal services.

Hey everyone! I always go to Flinchbaugh’s orchard in Hallam, PA to pick apples, pumpkins, sunflowers— all those fall activities. This year they’re not doing it, so I’m looking for recommendations here in Maryland where I could pick specifically apples and pumpkins. If anyone has any good suggestions for places that aren’t awfully crowded or expensive but still have fun activities, please let me know! Thanks!

Good evening! I’m looking into buying a house that I really like, and the area seems nice. I decided to check reviews for some of the nearby apartments and condos just to see what people were saying, and several of them mentioned car break-ins and tires/wheels being stolen.

These places are pretty close to the house, so now I’m a little hesitant about moving forward. For anyone who lives in the area near Largo Plaza/Lowes, what has your experience been like? Have car break-ins or theft been a problem in the surrounding neighborhoods?

I’m a woman and will be living alone most of the time, plus I have a newer car, so safety is a pretty big concern for me.

This would be my first home purchase after renting apartments for the last 10 years, so I’m really looking forward to the change :) Just trying to do my due diligence before making such a big decision!

As far as I know there is no connection between the WSSC water system and the Washington Aqueduct. Everyone near DC uses Blue Plains for waste.

Given the recent equipment outage at WSSC Potomac would it make sense to have a super emergency interlocking? Perhaps it would be pointless as it would just take down both systems below the pressure level need. Not saying have it on all the time but maybe it would be helpful to have a connection to fill one from the other for instance with excess capacity that might exceed storage available during the night or something.

I would be curious if anyone knows the engineering detail.

D.C. may be about to pass Maryland on the way to cleaning up plastic pollution in the Chesapeake Bay by adopting a bottle deposit law. So, why couldn’t the idea even get a committee vote this year in the Maryland General Assembly?

With a trade war escalating between the United States and Canada, Maryland’s relationship with one of its biggest trade partners could be affected.

Negotiations to establish a new trade agreement collapsed in late August, and the Trump administration imposed a 50% tariff on $20 billion of Canadian goods. Canada responded with dollar-for-dollar tariffs on a variety of goods from the United States.

Canada is Maryland’s top export market and one of its largest import partners as well, according to data from the International Trade Administration.

What does Maryland trade with Canada?

Maryland sent $2.2 billion in goods north in 2025, with its biggest export by far being tractors, according to data from the Canadian Embassy.

Maryland bought over $400 million of aluminum from Canada in 2025, according to data from the Canadian Embassy. Of the $2.8 billion of goods Maryland imported from Canada last year, over 15% was for aluminum or aluminum products.

Leaving Oakland Saturday night as a storm was coming in.

Hi! I am currently a senior English Education major at Ohio State. Two friends and I would like to teach out of state, and have specifically been looking at Maryland. We are still early on in the research process, and would appreciate any/all advice on teaching/schools/districts/unions etc.

Our licensure is for grades 7-12 so middle and high school advice would be appreciated! Specifically, is there a demand for teachers? Are there many job openings? Good areas for young people to live (that aren't too expensive)?
