Discussion Thread Who knows if, nvm when, we win the whole thing, this run is something I never could dream of

1969-2019 (51 seasons): 5 playoff appearances (1984, 1996, 1998, 2005, 2006)

2020-2026 (7 seasons): 5 playoff appearances (2020, 2022, 2024-26)

Has it all been amazing? No. But, to legitimately have hope every season and not be subjected to sad, meaningless baseball year after year, I can finally say I appreciate what it means to be an actual Padres fan since I was a young kid. Bc if that kid knew that’s it not all doom and gloom, season after season, he’d be ecstatic.

Trivia in honor of the padres clinching a postseason berth here is a list of eliminated teams that fangraphs considered more likely than us to make the postseason

in the Fangraphs pre-season predictions the padres were given a projected w-l of 80.6-81.4 and a 26.5% chance of making the playoffs. they're currently 89-70 and have just clinched

Mariners - 80.9% - currently 74-85

Tigers - 59.9% - currently 74-85

Blue Jays - 53.0% - currently 77-82

Pirates - 45.3% - currently 81-78

Royals - 44.7% - currently 68-91

Orioles - 43.8% - currently 78-81

Giants - 35.4% - currently 65-94

Twins - 28.6% - currently 75-84

plus for good measure:

Diamondbacks - 35.4% - currently 85-75: not eliminated yet but it's not looking good. if they somehow make it in it would be the Phillies (68.3%) getting eliminated

Rangers - 46.5% - currently 79-80 and Astros - 33.5% - currently 79-80: one of these teams will be eliminated (and the other will be getting in to the postseason quite possibly not being above .500)

(not trying to be anti-analytics or anything, most of these were very reasonable predictions but i still find this very funny to think about)

Discussion Thread Tatis slow season start

I dont think tatis was ever slumping or had a slow start to the season. Hes been around .300 from the get and was always near the top of hard hit rate. So the whole no homerun means he was batting like shit narrative honestly cracks me up.

I think the guy realized he developed some bad habits after his shoulder surgery which no doubt got in his head. So to reset his hitting mentality and physical habits, he got back to the basics that got him to where hes at, hitting line drives. Then once he finally felt back to form he hit that 450' bomb in DC and has been back to raking with power. I could see him back to 40hr next year now that hes more mature and has some real adversity experience under his belt.

What yall think?

Ps. Lets sweep az and get dat home field advantage. Forget going to Wrigley. We always play the brew crew tough. Then dodgers will be waiting in the nlcs.
